Essentially our extended family loves showering our children with TONS of candy at Easter, Halloween, etc. What do you with all of yours? I hate to throw it out. Most is is not bagged so I don't think I can donate it. What do you do with yours?

What can I do next?

I throw it away while the kids are asleep. It's not like little children in Africa are starving to death for want of Easter candy.

We freeze all the chocolate and bring it with us when we go to the movies or have family movie nights. I usually but those little snack bags and put two or three candies in each bag. We still have some from Halloween!

I always use candy from halloween for my kids birthday goody bags or pinatas! With 3 kids who get tons from family as well plus trick or treat more than once (always invited to go with friends from close by towns) we have more than our share of candy. In fact I threw out a grocery bag full before Easter because even after all my efforts to get rid of it.... I still had too much.
Also if there is a school party (end of year maybe) I use the candy for that too!
Also if your kids are involved in sports (especially with concession stands) you will be grateful for all the candy. Put some in individual baggies and take them with you. That way when the kids ask for money you can let them pick from the baggie instead. All kids want snacks while watching brother or sister play sports.... this will help you not go broke.
You could freeze it also so mid to late summer when you run out... you really didn't!
Hope this helps :)

I have a very large pantry and I keep a huge stainless steel bowl with extra candy and goodies in it.

It works wonders at my house because my 15 yr old daughter has friends here almost every weekend and they eat it.

Our scout troop did a Halloween surplus candy drive and donated it all to the Yellow Ribbon Support Group out of Palatine. http://www.yellowribbonsg.org/ They included it in care packages sent to the troops. I doesn't have to be full bags as long as the items are individually wrapped. You may wish to contact them.

I agree with Angi. We put it all in a big bowl. If there's a ton, we send part of it to work with my husband, and the rest my daughter gets 1 piece if she finishes all of her dinner.

You can also donate it to Ronald McDonald house where they give it to the children staying in the home that are suffering with various serious health issues.

eat it LOL

I used to make my kids dump all their candy in one BIG bowl and I doled it out a couple pieces at a time, usually as a treat after eating dinner (or sometimes as a bribe to get them to clean their rooms or do their homework). They got to enjoy the candy, learned moderation AND didn't feel deprived :)

I use all the left over candy from Easter, Valentine's, birthday party pinatas/goodie bags...and every other ocassion on gingerbread houses at Christmas! The kids know that a lot of them are stale and don't taste good anymore so are happy to decorate the houses.

For whatever reason we always have a surplus of tootsie rolls. I think these are popular fillers for pinatas. Anyway, I found a good recipe of tootsie roll fudge online. It's awesome for cookie exchanges and make good gifts for unexpected/last minute visitors during the holidays.

I keep some in a bowl atop the fridge and my daughter can pick one a day...the rest goes in a big bag for dad's work....
I am so bad...last Halloween we got so much candy. I filled my daughters birthday pinata with it. Her birthday is just after Halloween.
If I know we have an upcoming camping trip or something, then I keep a little too. But send it to work with dad...it will be gone fast!

I put all of ours into a big bowl or ziplock bags hand out pieces now and then year-round as treats. All the candies that I really don't like I just throw away when the kids aren't looking. (I hate throwing things away, but I've gotten over it in this case.) And sometimes I've put some into a nice bowl to take to potlucks (making sure they are not holiday specific candies), and they just disappear there.

I send a lot of it to work with my hubby. Being military there are a lot of guys working for him that are away from home for the first time. I send the extra Candie and some home backed stuff to help them feel a little more connected.

I hate throwing things away as well. I keep some to put out in a big bowl for people or guests to munch on, and my boys' friends take care of a lot of it! My boys are teens and into sports, so I can leave candy out and the only ones I have to worry about eating too much of it is my husband and myself - my kids have better willpower than us lol! I do cook with some, like putting m&ms in cookies or melting milky ways over baked apples. If I get too much to handle, I bag some up and people LOVE to come pick it up from Freecycle. I have taken some to work before and my husband has as well.

I keep a few pieces out for our daughter (and maybe a piece or two for me lol) but I always send it with my husband to work. I'm sure his co-workers have a love/hate relationship with that...but at least I know I'm not eating it all. :)
