We are headed to SLC with our 5 month old daughter and are looking for things to do and restaurants that deliver. We are traveling for her to a have a procedure at Primary Children's and will be there for at least 1 week and are staying downtown. Thanks for your suggestions!

When are you coming....hopefully the weather will be nice for you! I live about 2 minutes from Primary Children's. It's a wonderful hospital, good luck to your daughter!!
Definitely visit Temple Square. It's an amazing building to see up close, and the grounds are gorgeous. It's just a very relaxing place that is nice to just walk around.
You'd probably also enjoy the Gateway. Lots of good shopping there.
Other close options: Red Butte Gardens, Heritage Park, Hogle Zoo, Discovery Gateway Children's Museum are a few.
I don't have many restaurant suggestions....we rarely go out to eat (we're students!) but when we do, we head over to the Korea House, near downtown. Excellent Korean food at a very good price!!
Enjoy Salt Lake City, and best of luck with your baby girl's procedure!!

Great suggestions thus far, for sure! My top pick for SLC with kids are all that Temple Square has to offer (great place to walk around and take tours, listen the choir perform, and all FREE!) and the Children's Museum at the Gateway. You could spend all day there playing with your kids. Worth every penny :D

Food is basically same as most Western restaurants. If you have a favorite restaurant, SLC probably has it. The Lion Hose Pantry is affordable and delicious. If money is no object, then the restaurants (The Garden and The Roof) at the top of the Joseph Smith Building areincredible! If you have a certain type of food you like, as the conscierge at the hotel, they'll have great ideas too.

You could just take a ride on the Trax and see things that way. And if you have a car, you could take a drive to Park City and see the Olympic venues and take in the outlet stores. Mountains are beautiful and full of snow this time of year.

Hope the procedure is as successful as you hope and your daughter does GREAT! Good luck. You will LOVE Primary Children's Hospital. Every single person that works there is amazing. You will be glad you came.

One of our favorite restaurants in SLC is the Bombay House. It's fabulous Indian food. If you've never tried it, you should. I would suggest getting Chicken Tikka Masala for sure, and either Chicken Makani, or Lamb Coconut Korma. Also order some Naan Bread. You will love it.

We also like the Pie for Pizza, it's great. Both of these restaurants are close to the Hoggle Zoo.

Also Temple Square is a must for anyone visiting SLC, it's beautiful, and very family friendly.

I always love going to ZCMI, my husbands grandfather was a baker there. The mall is wonderful, I would love to bite into a caramel pecan cluster from there about now...craving chocolate tonight....I always loved going on the tours too. I know a lot of things are definantly LDS oriented and if that's not what you want to do then I recommend you do some research and pick a few things on purpose then when you get there you can have some free time to pick some others.

Depending where you are staying, there are lots of restaurants around there. I would look up some of your favorites online and see how close you are. It might be close enough to walk for pick up. The concierge can also help you in locating some. I know that there is a "restauranty" street with PF Changs, and a few other chain places that should offer you a selection of choices for at least a week. Good luck to all of you.

I love Mazza for MIddle-Eastern food, and agree that Bombay House is terrifc. Also, there's a great toy store called Tutoring Toy and a *wonderful* baby boutique called Babinski's in the same mall in the Sugarhouse section of SLC. And Temple Square really is delightful to browse through--people are always nice and even though you won't be able to see the amazing landscaping they do there because it's still too wintery, it's worth a look-see. They show short, free movies at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building that are sweet and reminiscent of Hallmark family movies--good, comforting stuff when you're feeling stressed and family-oriented.
I wish you and your daughter well! Primary Children's is the best place to be if your child needs medical attention--they are so child-oriented and respectful I get misty just remembering my time there and how good people were to my family.

I echo the other responses. Hogle Zoo is great if it is a nice day out. Also the Gateway for shopping, eating, the Childrens Museum and Clarke Planeterium are part of the Gateway, plus their is a movie theatre there. I also agree that Temple Square is a must even if you don't have LDS roots it is a beautiful place with a visitors center and the Family History Library. There is also a pioneer museum and LDS church history museum. The little cafe in the bottom of the Joseph Smith building is an excellent place for a wonderful sandwich or lunch.

Have fun and enjoy..

This website has a TON of things to do. Some of my favorites are the Utah museum of natural history, The Gateway, Hogle zoo, Clark Planetareum, Living planet aquarium. There's also Temple square, and across the street the Joseph Smith memorial building with it's Family search center for tracing your roots. They also offer a free movie on a huge screen in the building. The Beehive house offers free tours and is an interesting look into the past. Next door you will find The Lion House pantry with it's delicious meals. If you drive 20 minutes south of Salt Lake you will find Cabela's with it's awesome fish tanks full of huge fish and an impressive mounted animal display. Across the freeway you will find Thanksgiving point which has a wonderful dinosaur museum along with a ton of things to do there.
Hope this helps and best of luck at PCH. It's a wonderful hospital!
