and no hobbies? It's my 29 yo SIL. I can't buy her clothes (very picky). I have done restaurant gift cards, massage, spa. Other thoughts? Thanks!

What can I do next?

You could try opting out of gifts. If she truly has everything she may wish people would stop giving her stuff if she doesn't need more stuff. I've basically lobbied in my family and my husbands for NO gifts anymore as everyone seriously has way too much stuff and nobody needs anything. The best gift is just a family gathering to enjoy each other's company which is actually a rare treat. So see if she is agreeable to skipping the gifts!!

I made a memory book of photo's and events one time to a relative that has everything. She said it was the most thoughtful gift she has ever received.

I feel your pain! I have a FIL that I never know what to get, gift-wise! Makes it tough! Is you SIL a coffee drinker? Starbucks has cute little gifts in their stores that you could give with a Starbucks giftcard. Dunkin Donuts does gift cards in stores and you can also order one on-line and have a personal photograph printed on the actual gift card (a photo downloaded from your computer). I often have good luck for almost anybody at Crate and Barrell. They have a wide variety of things there. Or how about a movie theater gift card? Hope you get some other helpful suggestions if these dont work. Best wishes! :)

With those kinds of people I always for for the "experience" gift--tickets to a concert, show, event, membership to a museum, zoo, whatever they like.

Fancy coffee & a coffee bean grinder plus a container to keep the newly ground coffee in? Something from local farms? I have a SIL like that and I give her preserves from our neighborhood farm and some free trade coffee fresh ground at a local coffee roaster. How about a special ornament for her tree or some other type of decor? A bird feeder? (While she's sitting around not doing any hobbies, she can watch the wildlife from her window! LOL) A bestseller you think she would like? A new DVD package from a movie she loved, or a classic? "The Sound of Music" is being reissued for its 45th anniversary, and there are always new collections for favorite series like Star Wars or any other 2 or 3-movie series. Barbra Streisand has a new book about decorating her gazillion dollar estate, and a lot of the proceeds go to women's heart research.

Does she truly have everything? As in she's got cash to buy anything & everything & it doesn't make sense to get her more "stuff"? How about making a charitable donation in her name? I just saw the idea in a magazine last week and may try it out for my MIL. I have to do a bit more research but I guess you give her a gift card which she can then donate to her favorite charity. Seems like a nice thing that's truly in the "Christmas" spirit :)

Ask your brother for suggestions or ask her if you are close enough. I have a MIL that has everything she needs and could ever want but she told me she loves fresh cut flowers. So during the holidays she will be getting a lovely bouquet while her mother doesn't like flowers but loves plants. I'm so grateful these lovely ladies let me know what they would prefer. Ask her for 3 ideas this way you are not necessarily stuck with getting something out of your price range.

You didn't mention what you spend but a couple things come to mind: a person to come in and clean her home once or twice, food delivered that she either just microwaves or cooks; movie passes to the luxe seating at the cinemas. Hope this helps.

Hello M., Does she use or would be interested in using "Green" products? I am an Eco-Entrepreneur with Shaklee offering non-toxic cleaning products for the home as well as all-natural nutritional products and all-natural skin care products. You could give her a gift certificate to my web site where she can choose anything she wants. Just let me know the amount, and I will mail you the gift certificate. Feel free to check out my web site at www.emilytaft.com Given the current economy, many people are giving more useful and healthful gifts this year instead of sweaters, etc. I am happy to chat with you about this also. Contact me at ###-###-#### or e-mail me at ____@____.com I am right in Georgetown, MA, so we are practically neighbors! E. Taft

Get her a big box of her favorite chocolates, or a bottle of her favorite wine/champagne. You are just looking to treat her not woo her, lol!
