What Tights (For Girls) Don't Get Holes!!???

Wow. I am hogging up the request lines now! ;) I've got a couple more for today. What tights do you buy for your girls? I usually just buy at Walmart, but I have also bought them at Target and I have bought the normal kind and the kind for dance. They all get holes SO quickly! Seriously, I will dress my girls for church, get in the car, and partway there, my girls already have a hole in them. Or, they get a hole by the time we are done with church. I admit, they probably play with the hole and make it bigger, and I've talked to them about this since, but this has happened so many times, and they usually tell me about it right when they get the hole. I don't think they're making holes on purpose. I am tired of buying "disposible tights." I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for tights, but at this point, buying new ones every couple weeks will end up the same. The only ones that seem to hold up well are the thick ones you can buy during the winter. Are any thinner ones worth the money?

What can I do next?

I had this same problem and solved it by not using tights but buying leggings that are fitted and not wide at the ankles. These are very modest come in different colors we tend to mostly use black or gray. The leggings do not tear after each use they wear like pants but fitted tightly to the skin and you put on longer dresses. For use with four girls this has saved a small fortune. I even use them instead of panty hose looks nice and saves alot.

I had this same issue until my daughter started ballet. We went to a local dance supply store and bought her special "ballet tights" and I noticed they had white, black, pink, and beige colors. But when I took them out of the package I noticed that they are much thicker than the regular dressy little girl tights, but they look the same on. It's as if they are made from the same material - just more of it. So, that's what we have been using ever since and love it. BUT don't buy the dance tights at Wal-Mart or Target thinking they are of the same quality - they aren't. You'll have to seek out a "real" ballet/dance shop. And if I'm not mistaken, I paid $6 a pair - not bad at all. Also if you ever find yourself looking for tights in an imppossible to find color, try: www.welovecolors.com. Trust me, they'll have it! Good luck.

I only buy tights at Gymboree now, because I had the same problem. Haven't gotten a hole yet!

Try thicker ones an/or a larger size. Maybe if they aren't as tight they won't rip?

If you watch for Clearance sales you can pick them up at Walmart for fifty cents to a dollar each. Wasn't that long ago that I saw an entire buggy full of them at Walmart for this price. That is how I always got my girls tights. That way if they got a hole it wasn't such a big deal.

I use to work at Gymboree (kids clothing store in the mall). The only Gymboree in Pinellas is at Countryside Mall on the bottom level near Dillards. They have a huge box of "out of season" tights in their stock room. If you go in and ask to look through the cardboard box of tights, they will most likely get it for you and you get dig through there. Gymboree is an expensive, but high quality brand. Although I just said they were expensive, the "out of season" tights are 3.49, 1.49, .99, and some are even .49! Not too bad for a good pair of tights. Good luck!

Wow! I had to check to make sure it wasn't me who wrote this LOL. I too have 4 kids, 3 of them being VERY active girls, and torturous to tights of any kind. Unfortunately the only kind that have worked are the more costly ones from The Children's Place, GapKids, Gymboree, etc. I have to be honest though, I try to stick to the woven ones even if it is summer (and I live in FL) they have eyelet ones, lighter woven ones instead of sweater thick, and fun colors or graphics. It drives me crazy when they get dressed but they are covered and their tights are so good, they pass them down...so that's saying something!
