What's Your Opinion of a Crossover

Hello Ladies,

I need another car,...of course with good gas mileage and a decent warranty. I wanted it Certified Used or maybe, just maybe I was thinking of leasing a new car. I live in Detroit so my insurance is going to be high so I can't afford a monster payment along with insurance. I want something that has a third row and decent cargo space when the third row needs to be used. I have been doing research on Edmunds.com but nothing compares to advise from other moms who have these types of vehicles. I had been leaning towards a Pacifica / Equinox / Vue.
Please Help! The advise will be much appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hello Ladies,

I know it took me forever, but I finally bought a Dodge Journey, after test driving the Toyota RAV 4 it was not as spacious or what I expected especially in a base model. The Dodge Journey seems to have the space I need and gas mileage is pretty decent, it is not to big or small and still sporty looking, but the third row is a little tight. I also like all storage areas that the Journey has. Considering I don't use it often it's not a big deal....yet. Thanks again for your advise!

I have a Pacifica and I absolutely love it. Unfortunately Chrysler is stupid and they stopped making them so the only way you could get one is if you bought it used. They don't get very good gas mileage but they are great if you have kids, especially if they are really little. It is really easy to get the little ones in and out of the car.

I have a 2005 Ford Freestyle crossover which I LOVE! It is now repackaged as a Taurus X. It has 3rd row seating which actually fits 2 adults, and we got the 2nd row bench option, so it truly seats 7 (I've done it on a couple girls' nights out). Unlike the Pacifica which we test drove, the Ford still has pretty decent cargo space with the 3rd row up. The Equinox was okay, but not sure it has the 3rd row option? And the Vue was too small for us. I get approx. 19-20 mpg city, 24 mpg highway.

My hubby says the Dodge Durango is another option (but again, not great gas mileage).

Good luck!

We have a Vue and absolutely love it. It has enormous amounts of cargo space, and it's fairly decent on gas from what I've noticed (hubby drives it most). It does NOT have 3rd row seating though. The Saturn crossover with a 3rd row is the Outlook. It's huge! My cousin just bought one to accommodate her growing family -- I hear she is quite happy with it.

no crossover gets great mileage :(
and the pacifica only seats 6 with the 3rd row - so thats not good. we couldnt find a crossover with good storage when the third seat was up -
we ended up with a Yukon XL :)
we get 15 around town and 18 on the highway
compared to the tiny crossovers its only mpg difference and twice the car.
to offset we also have a honda civic!

good luck car shoppping!

Hi K.C.-

We used to have a Pacifica and we loved it. It was very roomy but not too good on gas. I recently looked at the Vue and we really liked it - although it does not have the third seat. My husband has a Dodge Ram and when his lease is up, we will be down sizing - probably to a Vue. And they just announced today on the news that Chrysler is getting rid of leasing (something else to consider).

Good luck with your search.
