I'm working on a kid related project at work and would like to learn what music girls between 4 and 9 listens to. My son is 3, so I have no idea... Any input is appreciated :)
Also I hear that Kidz Bop is very popular among pre-teens. Why are they so popular? Because of the edited kit friendly lyrics? Or kids like that other kids are singing instead of the adults?

What can I do next?

The sound of Music and other old musicals are great for kids this age. Also, my girls love anything by Queen! How awesome is that?!? Also, there is a pottery barn cd that is great called first steps. It has so many great old songs. I love that my kids know these. Plus take a look at some really fun 50's music... Rockin' Robin etc. And the Lilo and Stich CD is so fun with all the elvis.

My daughter is four and doesn't go anywhere without her ipod. She loves to sing and dance. We are very strict about what she listens to. She loves Jana Alayra, she is a christian children's artist, she love the Fresh Beat Band, they are realatively new. She also likes Taylor Swift.

There are a lot of artists that Disney features and would probably pertain to this age group. Have you tried looking up the Disney Channel online? I'm sure you could find some kind of list of their featured artist.

Good luck with your project.

Watch the Disney channel for a week and Nick. Jonas Brothers, Selena Gomez, Miley Cirus, Raven, Demi Lavato, the list goes on and on and on. The lyrics are not childlike but don't have rude words or insults to authority figures in them so I think it's why parents are letting kids listen to these people.

I usually find myself singing along and feeling like the music is fun a free and not depressing.

Hi E.,

My daughter adores Taylor Swift. She also likes the Disney?Nick channel stars - Selena Gomez and Demi Lavato. We went through the Hannah Montana phase but are about done there.

I don't like the Kids Bop music. I think it is expensive and if you listen to it, it is a grown man singing in most the songs with the kids as accent or back up. For this reason I will not purchase it. I think it is false advertising.

Our library has cd to borrow. On fridays they are 50cents for two weeks. It is a good way to check out new music. I am sure most libraries have similar music programs.

Oh, I didn't mention my daughter's age - 7.

My daughter is 8, she loves Selena Gomez , or Aly and AJ. And the sound track from the show Pheneas and Ferb. They are alot of fun and it's not buying into the Hanna montana bs
I don't like the Kidz Bop cds these are cds of adult music being sung by kids. These kids don't know what they are singing , what the songs are about and if they do Lord help us all.

My girls, 4 and 7, love Taylor Swift, Hannah/Miley, Aly and AJ. Basically the same as what others are saying, anything Disney.
They also like Imagination Movers.

I use Pandora, input their favorite music and let it find more stuff they like. They can thumbs up or thumbs down each song and it refines the playlist.

They do tend to prefer girl singers, presumably because they relate to them more or would like to be like them. I can tell by they way they dance and pose and lipsynch to them :)

I've tried to get them to listen to "my" music (more alternative rock influence), but they are uninterested at this point.

They do like KidzBop, which they have heard at school, but I haven't bought it for them.

My 4 yr old likes to listen to what I listen to , I always have the radio on in the car so she has become familiar with songs that are played. She also seems to sit up and take notice of Laurie Berkner band when they play inbtween shows on Nick Jr.
