What's Wrong with My Azaleas?

I have 2 azaleas. One is potted in a self-watering pot. I bought it last year and it never bloomed. This year, it took off! I was beautiful! Now, it's getting browned flowers. I keep it watered and put cedar mulch on it. I have found that I need pine mulch b/c of the ph balance. It gets morning sun and is shaded in the afternoon. My other one is in the backyard. I bought it this year about a month ago. It's betting bigger, but not flowering. It's about 12 inched tall right now. What can I do to help them?

What can I do next?

it's normal for the flowers to brown. They bloom, they die. My entire neighborhood has azaleas....as do I....& that's the cycle.

Or at least in MO, that's how it goes.....

Epsom Salt is also something I've used to help mine out. Also remember that they only bloom once a year and then they're done til the next.

When I lived in AZ I had an azalea that I was having problems with and I planted it outside and it did great. It kept blooms for a long time. I remember that I used some stuff on them once in a while called Miracid. It is found in the isle by the Miracle grow. You might talk to someone at the nursery also. Good luck!! One of the people at the nursery told my friend that azaleas are on of the hardest plants to grow.

I had azaleas when I lived in Calif. I think they do best in the Shade. They are also acid loving plants. I had mine in the shade and used a fertilizer that had acid in it made for azaleas. I loved those plants--they're so pretty. Good luck.

Rose and bloom fertilizer! I use it and my roses and shrubs go from a couple blooms to lots!! Make sure you water them after...seems like they may need the same kinda stuff hydrangeas do...can't think of name but it changes soil acidity I believe ... Ask lowes garden center. They always have a specialist to answer anything!! :) hope this helps, I love to garden. I've an ok green thumb
