What's the going rate for babysitting now? My daughters are getting old enough that instead of having someone (usually family) watch them at their house, I'd like to have some of the neighborhood girls watch them at my house. Thanks ladies!

When I had one child, I paid $5/hr. With two kids, I paid $8/hr. For three kids, I pay $10/hr. I hope that helps!

This is a very, very regional question (all the way down to specific neighborhoods!)! I would ask some of the mom's in your neighborhood or just ask the babysitters themselves how much they charge for future reference. I asked this a long time ago on another forum and got answers from around the country ranging from $1/hour-$20/hour!
My 14-yr-old was just asked to babysit and was asked how much she charged. Since this is her first job & they are scarce around here, I told her to say, "whatever you can afford!". That way she will get future jobs and any $ is better than none. But if there are lots of babysitting jobs in your area, the prices might be higher.

I have two teens. ONe is 15 the other almost 13.
My oldest gets about $8-$10 an hour. There have been neighborhoood wars when all the moms are invited to the next party and they all need her. She is usually called abotu two weeks ahead of time.
My 12 year old gets about $5 an hour. ONe of my neighbors has been "training her". First as a mamas helper and recently as a babysitter when the kids are napping and waking for snack.
Ask if the girls have had the babysitting class from the red cross or hospital. Ask if their mom is available when they are babysitting. When my 12 yo is in another's home I am always home. My 15 yo can run my house, and anyone elses for that matter so I am not always home when she babysits.

I'll agree with other posts in that it's regional and it depends on how old she is as well as how old your kids are. We had some good friend's daughters watch ours when they were young and paid them $10/hr(They would have to change diapers, bathe them, feed them, etc.). Once my kids got older and the babysitters were basically just there to get them pizza and watch a movie with them, it was more like $5/hr. I would also suggest letting them know ahead of time what's expected. These same girls who watched my kids occasionally for a night out, also watched some kids up the street during the summer while the mom ran errands and worked out. She would come home and get really upset that the trash wasn't taken out and there were pop cans sitting on the counter. She hadn't said anything ahead of time about these other chores she was expecting them to do, so the girls were taken aback and it ended kinda bitterly. I didn't expect them to do anything but watch my kids. I figured that was their main focus. I didn't care about dishes in the sink or overflowing trash - as long as they were tending to the kids. You might want to mention that, too, when you are giving instructions about the daily routine- anything else that would be expected, if you choose. Good luck!

In my area the going rate is $10/hr. CASH

My daughter's last job was for 3 girls under 7 for 2 hrs and she got $25.

We have always had date night weekly. We guaranteed $40 cash because the girl saved the night for us, then we paid accordingly. Date nights were anywhere from $60-$80 a night CASH

Have fun!

I usually pay around $6-$8 an hour. Sometimes I just round up and give the babysitter $40 or such for the night out. But just ask your sitter, "what do you usually make per hour?" or is "$6 an hour okay?" If the sitter is older, in college or such they should probably be getting a bit more than a younger sitter. Hope this helps.

unfortunately, the going rate is about $10 an hour! it has gotten ridiculous. 10 years ago when i was baby sitting it was $5 an hour if i was lucky.

That depends on what you expect of her? how old the kids are? what kind of restrictions you are putting on her while she is babysitting? I have always been a good payer and because they know they get paid good they do things that I dont expect to want to be called back. I dont use a babysitter very often though and now my kids are older and babysit themselves. think of it this way, what would you want to get paid for what you want or dont want her to do, and what are the benefits of the job? way those pros and cons and you have your answer.
