So What Happened?

We loved the Nanny and hired her. I just hope all works out. She seems flexible, easy going, yet can hold a schedule. I didn't however ask about discipline because with a newborn that won't come up any time too soon.

Thank you for all your wonderful suggestions. I love this site.

Does she plan on being on Facebook or other social networking sites while caring for your child?

Will she be on the phone or texting while in your home, allowing the children to be somewhat unsupervised?

Will she had visitors? Friends, Boyfriends, sisters, while at your home?

Has she taken any life saving classes? Does she know the Heimlich maneuver?

What would an old boss say about her? Was she dependable? Did she call in a lot?

Does she expect to have health insurance, paid for by you?

Ask for more than 1 reference.

I agree with CPR, discipline, references, hours she can and cannot work and her pay requested. Is she willing to travel if that is needed, what she will and will not do-laundry, dishes, meals, etc. Ages she's worked with and length of time with families, any commitments that may take her away from caring for the children.

These are great suggestions. If you are interviewing nannies in the future, you may want to go on babycenter.com. They have a sample interview form with some "standard" questions. I used it as a starting point, and really felt I knew a lot about my nanny before we hired her. The website also has a sample nanny contract, which was helpful.
