What Nontoxic Products Do You Use to CLEAN & DISINFECT Baby Toys?

I am trying to take a chemical free and nontoxic approach to raising my 5 mo son. Do you simply use vinegar and water to clean the toys? Does that truly disinfect? Any feedback is much appreciated!

Our daycare puts them in the dishwasher. You can use Seventh Generation dishwasher soap there or just let the hot water disinfect them. I'm not sure about vinegar, but it smells gross and the plastic of toys holds the smell a bit. I have two kids (4 and 18 months) and took the approach that disinfecting everything is too sterile and they need to have a little "life" in their environment. I just washed the toys in hot water by hand once in a while. I don't know if it is coincidence but my kids are hardly ever sick.

You are lucky to have mom and sis so close! I am in Venice too but my family is an hour away and my husband's is in North Africa!

I normally throw the plush toys in the wash or rinse with hot water and Kiss My Face Organic Hand Soap. I clean the whole house with Mrs. Meyers All Natural Cleaning Products from detergent or all purspose cleaners. I use 100% natural makeup to cleaners, etc in my whole house. What a blessing it is to hear that you are making a difference in your home and in the world itself!!! best of luck!!

I buy all my cleaning products, first aid, etc. from this company: http://www.melaleuca.com/ps/index.cfm?f=ps.mainPage

I actually became a rep just so I can buy my own stuff directly and get a discount. It is not a business for me though, I just highly recommend their products.

I also use a very, very small amount of bleach, mixed with water. Then rinse a lot.

Good luck and good job trying to make a safe environment for your little one.

Hi M.,

I have always used the chemical filled cleaners. I've just recently learned of an all natural line of products called Melaleuca. Literally within the last 3 weeks. We had a small networking party at my house and someone brought red wine to the party!!...consequently it ended up on my cream colored rug! The Melaleuca lady used the natural spot remover. It worked wonderfully even removed a red Sharpie permanent marker circle that my 3 year old grandson put on my white wall! They carry everything from cleaning supplies to personal hygiene to snack bars!! Great products!
