What Kind of Things Do You Put in Your Soup or Food?

I was having a chat with friends today...one stated she was going to fix herself a grilled cheese sandwich with jalapenos....someone else said 'that sounded good"...I said I would make it...

So this lead to adding tomato soup....I asked what kind of bread they prefered and what kind of crackers...

one said sourdough...
the other said PLAIN popcorn for the soup...I found that interesting, as did another...which made me remember that one of my girlfriends cooks her popcorn with bacon grease and adds pepper...

I put peanut butter (must be crunchy) on my pancakes, french toast and waffles...some (even my husband thinks it's gross but I love it!!)...never thought of popcorn in my soup...I think I will try that tomorrow for lunch!

So - what things do you like in your soup or food?

What can I do next?

I love to make fancy grilled cheese to accompany soups. Yes, I'll do typical cheddar cheese but I love to throw Havarti and mozzarella together. I love to throw in tons of veggies into any soup I make. I put prosciutto into most of my veggie soups to add more flavor. I don't do anything different I suppose other than occasionally make homemade croutons to go with various soups or you know just to eat. I eat peanut butter on all types of bread or bread products, this includes tortillas and crackers. This even includes dipping cheez-its into peanut butter. My kids think I'm ewww and my husband rolls his eyes. They don't know what they're missing!

My husband always thinks it's odd that I eat my corn dogs with mayo.

A fried egg makes EVERYTHING better.

I love croutons in my creamy soups. For broth soups, saltine crackers.

Nothing better than mixing corn & mashed potatoes together.

Sour cream also makes everything better.

I put mushrooms in soup, any soup. I put crumbled up pie crust in chicken pot pie soup. Bacon can go into pretty much anything, in my opinion! I can put salsa on just about everything, and do! I like to dip pork chops into applesauce.

Of course, cheese. Cheese go anywhere, anytime. Cheese makes life better. I like to sprinkle parm cheese on a cookie sheet and bake it to make chips. Those are GREAT in tomato soup.

Fun question!!

I could probably make a huge long list for this question...

Hmmm...

Silken tofu with mango sauce mixed in. Everyone I have introduced this wonderfully simple dessert to has loved it. It is one of my son's favorite breakfast/snacktime foods. (80g silken tofu broken up, mix in about1-2 tablespoons mango/blueberry/strawberry yogurt sauce)

Ham and cream cheese on a sesame roll with lettuce, caesar salad dressing, and the magic ingredient: shiso leaf. So delicious. It can be eaten with a slice of cheddar cheese instead of the cream cheese, but...

Rice balls with rasins and cinnamon sugar in the center. Some of my Japanese friends love this, others think I am crazy.

ETA:

best tuna salad ever: tuna, mayonnaise, garlic powder, cumin powder, paprika, pepper, dried parsely (for sandwiches, rice balls, mixed with Goya bitter melon, etc... so yummy!)

Both my son and I love our turkey Sanwitch with mayo and jelly.
I'm a weirdo and I like to eat weird stuff ( not weird it self but the combo is weird). I like my tuna with jalapeños, egg, mayo, pepper and salt, sometimes a splash of lime.
I eat pizza with jalapeños and applesauce. French fried dipped in ice cream or a shake. Ranch in almost everything!!

Grilled cheese with jalepenos sounds awesome! Some ham too!

I don't like tomato soup, no matter what is added to it. I hated it as a kid, and then tried to like it as an adult...but I just don't. It makes me gag. V8 is even worse.

The local grocery sells bread with garlic cloves baked into it. I could eat the whole loaf. I love it.

I love a fried egg on my cheeseburger. Or some avocado slices. I also love to have avocado on my turkey sandwiches.

I love peanut butter on my pancakes and French toast too! :-)

I also love a peanut butter and butter sandwich. Or peanut butter and honey.

Johnny's Salad Seasoning on my mac and cheese. It's also awesome on garlic bread.

I love having sweet things with my popcorn. Popcorn and Red Vines. Popcorn and dark chocolate. Popcorn and Sour Patch Kids. Mmmm!

For a treat I love a no-ice cream root beer float. 1/4-1/2 Cup of Creme Brulee liquid coffee creamer, ice and root beer. Tastes just like a root beer float, with no chunks of ice cream! YUM! Use diet soda for less sugar.

:-)

ETA: Forgot a few: I LOVE ridged potato chips on my egg salad sandwich. Also love to dip McDonald's fries in a chocolate shake. And I recently found that apple slices dipped in chunky bleu cheese dressing is AMAZING!

I love Tabasco in almost anything: soup, on sandwiches, on eggs. Same goes with pickled jalapenos. The spicier, the better.

In my Christmas stocking, Santa brought me some of those dried mangoes with chili powder on them from Trader Joe's. Man, I could eat those non-stop. It sounds awful, but it's delicious!

I love the idea of popcorn with tomato soup. Yum!

I think you can add bacon to almost anything, and it will improve the dish. Think about it: cupcakes with bacon? Awesome! Waffles with bacon? Heck yeah! Soup (of any kind) with bacon? You bet! You can put bacon on ice cream, salads... really anything. And Pancetta? The bacon of the gods. Seriously.

Will my family think it's weird if I make tomato soup with tabasco and popcorn, with a side of grilled cheese and jalapeno? And then some Rocky Road ice cream with bacon on it for dessert?

On my grilled cheese I put tomato's and dill pickles and my husband puts onions and bread and butter pickles on his. My husband and 10 year old also add cheese and bread and butter pickles to their BLT's (son actually leaves the T off). Rainbow chard. Prewashed in a bag from Trader Joes. It's my latest "go to" item to throw into soup. Adds good color, taste and texture. Yum.

Infused olive oils. We have a new shop in town that sells these. You can taste test first. I drizzle the persian lime infused olive oil on salads, W. mushroom oil on cooked vegies. Double yum.

I dip my grilled cheese in Franks.

If I am having grilled cheese with tomato soup I just dunk the grilled cheese in the tomato soup. If no grilled cheese I like to put shredded cheddar on my tomato soup and lots of black pepper. Goldfish are good too, if I have them.

My ten year old puts popcorn on his hot dog.

My husband puts peanut butter and syrup on french toast. I will put pb&j on pancakes.

I like tomato soup with a piece of good sourdough, toasted with some cheese on it. Yum!

I rarely put anything IN my soup, unless it's a sandwich to dip or rice to thicken it. Not a fan of soggy crackers.

I love olives in my scrambled eggs. I'll even pit'em if need be, then mince them. Some fresh chevre on top. Yum!

Hummus on toast is also delicious. Feta crumbled on quinoa or couscous. And I love ranch+ketchup on my tater tots, which we make once in a blue moon at home. (Save those for when we are out, better that way!)

Peanut butter and bacon sandwiches, sometimes with thinly sliced apples, sometimes not. Really, I'll try to put bacon on anything I can. I was in heaven when chocolate cupcakes with bacon sprinkles on top were popular. (Of course I make my own now.)

ETA: Hell on Heels: Yes! Bacon! I also like spicy foods. My kids love my hot cocoa with a dash of cinnamon and a dash of cayenne. MMMMMM! Pair it with a peanut butter and bacon sandwich and I will be absolutely and completely content.

Grilled cheese or quesadilla with provolone and mozzarella cheese and avocados. My 1 yr old loves it. I bought breakfast sandwiches over the weekend so my kids could quickly grab breakfast this week. They discoverred them yesterday and ate them for lunch. They got a suprise. not reading the box, they opened and wrapped up in paper towel for the microwave. Instead of an english muffin, the "bread" was a pancake. They loved them so now they will make them on the weekend.

I miss cheese!!! (Dairy now makes me violently ill. I can't even have butter!!! Aaaaargh. Do you know how many delicious things are made with butter??? Sniff. Okay, moving on. But be warned, anything dairy I USED to love, but now simply mourne).

- Nutritional Yeast on popcorn

- Swiss cheese toasted instead of mayo for sandwiches

- cilantro, peas, carrots,& tomato/red pepper soup on rice

- South African Smoke (trader joes), Pepperman (whole foods), sriachi, avocado, bacon, Franks Buffalo, Italian pasta herbs w red pepper, & wakame on waaaaaaay too many things. Seriously.

- Frenchfries dipped in chocolate shake

- Greens on pizza

- eggs deep fried in bacon grease

- chicken stock in mashed potatoes

- bacon : the culinary excuse (Bacon is sold in Israel & Riyad. I don't believe its actually pork. I think bacon is unicorn meat. Also possibly ribs are unicorn meat. I haven't decided.). I particularly like bacon wrapped grilled jalapeño poppers. But, really, bacon wrapped anything is yummy.

- white wine vinegar in my Devilled eggs

- chocolate in my Chilli

- Salt & Pepper Chips dipped into cottage cheese

- chocolate syrup + milk = hot cocoa

I make stone soup and read the story to the kids. I do have a nice sized stone that routinely gets washed in the dishwasher after being used.

We start with meat already cooked with garlic and onions in it. Then we add tomato juice if we want a red style stew or beef broth if we want a clearer stew.

I add a can of Veg-All in the small pieces, the celery is much easier to do if it's cut in small pieces. Then I add at least one can of original Ro-Tel tomatoes. They add just the right amount of spice.

I drain all the canned veggies.....a can of corn, can of green beans, stuff the kids like. Then I add a can of Sweet Sue Sweet Potatoes, again, cut in small pieces. Then I let this all heat up through the day then eat it for a couple of days with crackers.

We put rotel in lots of soups.

Garlic, basil, and jalapenos go into most soups and pastas that we make.

Rosemary is great on potatoes.

My favorite treat is to mix cocktail peanuts and m&ms (plain and peanut). I love the salty and sweet mixture!

We grow garlic, basil, rosemary, and jalapenos, so they're all fresh. This year we're greatly expanding our garden, so we'll have lots more fresh veggies and herbs.
