What Kind of Shampoo/conditioner Should I Use for My Daughter's Fine Hair?

My three-year-old daughter has very fine hair that breaks very easily. She constantly has split ends that go all the way up the strand of her hair. We currently just use the generic all-in-one hair and body wash plus Suave kids conditioner, but a friend of mine suggested I use better stuff. I'm a little nervous to switch to adult formulas just in case it gets in her eyes, but I guess we can just be careful that it doesn't. What type of shampoo and conditioner do you use for your kids' hair? Aside from constantly getting it trimmed, what else should I do to try to keep my girl's hair looking healthier?

Thanks!

My daughter, same age, has super fine, thin hair. I try to use shampoo without sulfates and/or phalates. I think it helps that we only wash her hair twice a week. Try washing less often? Good luck. Oh, and I still buy kids' shampoo that is tear-free. Wouldn't switch to adult stuff yet, though I don't have any evidence that it's any more harsh. Just more irritating if it gets in her eyes.

Dove. My DD has fine, curly hair. Her pediatrician suggested Dove (which I also use) and we use it on the bottom half of her hair.

We use the 7th generation bodywash/shampoo for both, but the conditioner is Dove, the intense moisturizing one.

Try Wen Kids. Its a bit pricey, but wen has saved my daughter's hair (its very dry due to thyroid disease). You can get it at chazdean.com or qvc. It is tear free and doesn't suds like regular shampoo. Therefore it doesn't dry the hair out. When we used regular shampoo and conditioner, Aussie moist worked well for her. I'll never go back though!

We use regular shampoo and conditioner since the kids were tiny. If you lean their head back and use the sprayer the shampoo goes down their back.

My 3 yo has very fine, slightly wavy hair. I still use baby shampoo since it isn't so harsh for little eyes. I also use California Baby conditioner. It can be used as leave in, which I do add to her hair after toweling it off. It's very light, so it won't weigh the hair down, and makes it nice, shiny, and smooth.
Another thing to consider is the type of brush. I use a detangling comb to gently comb it out wet (after adding the leave-in conditioner), and then brush it with a soft bristle brush when dry.
Hope this helps!

It was about that age that I made the switch to adult stuff for my daughter. Her hair just always kinda looked messy and not very clean (I was using Suave as well) even though I'm sure it was, it just didn't look that great. I went through a few things with my kids but I have settled on one I really like. To be honest, the biggest difference I've noticed in the kids' hair and my hair is when I used shampoo without phalates, etc. It truly has made the biggest difference. I can't even remember the name of the one I use now, it comes in a round, red bottle, but I've also used one from Costco that is free of junk and it works well too. It is the Kirkland brand. I get the red one at Bed, Bath and Beyond and although it's a little pricey, it's worth it to me. Plus, you can use the 20% off coupons.

I haven't had a problem with using non tear free stuff on the kids. I thought I might, but really it isn't an issue. My son basically started using the stuff at age 1-1.5 because I got tired of buying separate stuff for them. Just help her rinse it out and I think it will be fine.

I have super-fine hair, and I like Frederic Fekkai's Volume shampoo and conditioner. Also, unless your daughter's hair gets really dirty somehow, you can just wash it every second or third day. Over-washing isn't good for fine hair. If her hair is overly dry, you might try Aveda's Dry Remedy.
