What Kind of Cloth Diapers for Newborn ( or Diaper Service in Pittsburgh?)

What would I do without you, Mommies? :)

As you will be able to tell by the sheer volume of my questions I am in full panic mode getting ready for this baby (as in "ackk! This baby is coming SOON!")so in advance, thank you!

I think I am going to do cloth for my newborn ds as I will be doing EC part-time (thanks, Tara, for introducing me to it...I can't wait!!) I just got some CDs for my toddler (and already asked a question about that) but still feel like quite the rookie when it comes to the crunchy diapering world. ;)

What ones do you like for a newborn? Are there any really "easy" kinds or all-in-ones that you like?

Where can I get them CHEAP (in order to sell EC to my hubby, I need to justify the initial investment in CDs)

Is it easier to have a service? How does this work and which one do you like? Cost?

Honestly,is it really a pain to do with a newborn (using and laundering cloth diapers, I mean)? I am going to be exclusively nursing and running after a toddler while healing from a c-section (!!) so I need the most SIMPLE way to do things....thanks!! ANY help is appreciated!

p.s Is there an objective "consumer reporting" type site that rates cloth diapers?

What can I do next?

I looked high and low for a diaper service in Pittsburgh and found none - but that was 2yrs ago and things may have changed. I recommend two sites:
http://diaperware.com/
http://www.greenearthbaby.com

I was all set to go CD, but my son was over 2mos early with tons of health issues - we were bombarded for his first 5mos and CD wasn't something we could fit in. We stuck with Nature Babycare diapers and Earth's Best diapers. Once those were no longer cost effective, we moved on to Huggies because they don't contain petrolatum. I hope to try CD with our next!

S., there aren't any diaper services in Pittsburgh. There is one in Morgantown that will deliver to Pittsburgh, but I think that pretty much negates the environmental value of CD, and honestly, you do so much laundry, what's one more load every 2-3 days?!?! We use the BumGenius and FuziBunz and love them. They are a little big for a newborn (I had some Happy Heiny newborns, but mostly used sposies for the first couple of weeks-- you'll get them, so might as well use them) but fit kids 8-30 pounds. You could use them for both your kids, if you daughter isn't too big. My son is 21 months, but in the 95th percentiles, and is really growing out of his BG.

Diaperpin.com is an independent review service. Diaperswappers.com is a great place to get used diapes. I think ebay has let up a little and is now allowing some used diap sales. Bumgenius (cottonbabies.com) sends out emails about seconds every now and again, and so does Fuzibunz. Get signed up for their email blasts.

Feel free to PM me if you have other questions.

Hi S.,

I have a friend who operates a cloth diapering business in Pittsburgh. It is called Pittsburgh Cloth Diapers and you can find her website at www.pittsburghclothdiapers.com - I'm sure she would be a great resource for learning which type of diaper would be best for you. There is also a yahoo group called "diaper swappers" if you go to groups.yahoo.com you can find it and you can get some 2nd had diapers pretty inexpensively.

Congrats again!
J.
