I don't know what got burned on bottom of iron, but I am having a dickens of a time in cleaning it. Does anyone have any ideas of how to clean the bottom of an iron without ruining the iron? Thanks

What can I do next?

They actually sell stuff that cleans it. It comes in a little tube found in the iron aisle. You heat up your iron, put the cream on an old towel and rub the iron on the cream/towel in circular motions and the junk comes right off. If your iron is REALLY bad, buy two tubes. (read the directions before you use it, I was going off of memory and it may not be perfectly reliable!) :)

Great Question!!! I was wondering that myself the other day. My iron doesn't get a lot of use, but I had it out for Easter clothes and there was a smudge on the leg of my son's pants when I was done....
I have NO idea what got on the bottom of the iron... but wasn't sure how to get it off. I was thinking maybe rub it with vinegar... but I will look for the tube Jill mentioned...
Thanks!

I'd look it up on the manufacturer's website or contact them directly. It will really depend on the material that the iron is made of as to how you should clean it and protect the surface.

There's stuff you can buy, I have a kit by Rowenta, I bought it at Linen's & Things if that tells you how often I use it. Ha-ha. I'm sure you can find it somewhere though.

Make sure you are using distilled water and NOT tap water. I discovered this the hard way. My iron kept getting dirty and I finally found out from my mom that I was supposed to use distilled water. Since then, I've never had a dirty iron again.
