What Is Snagging All My Shirts?

I am hoping you can help me figure out this problem... All my t-shirts (cotton jersey) have little tiny holes in the lower center, on the part that hangs over my pants. I thought it could be from my seatbelt, but I've been consciously putting my shirt over the lap belt when I drive and just noticed a hole in the same spot in a brand new shirt!

Am I the only one with this problem? I can't for the life of me figure out what is going on, but I'm tired of wearing holey clothes! Ideas?

ETA: The weird part is the holes are all in the same spot. I'd blame the washer -- velcro, bra hooks -- but the consistent placement is weird.

So What Happened?

AHHH!!! We do have granite countertops in our kitchen!!! And I'm sure I lean on them a lot while cooking, etc. I felt around and there's also a screw under my desk right in the center! Time to get out the duct tape. Thanks so much for your suggestions and solutions! Hopefully I can retrain myself not to lean on the counter. I can definitely duct tape this screw!

Seatbelts do this.
oops, you said you were conscious of that already.
Maybe it's a zombie ;)
The countertop suggestion sounds pretty reasonable.

I KNOW! I KNOW! (this is me enthusiastically raising my hand to be called on).

10 bucks says you have granite countertops. feel along the bottom edge, you will see it is choppy. This is what is snagging your shirts!

My parents just had a guy come in and sand all the edges of their kitchen countertop. Problem solved!

My mom had called the manufacturer and complained and they said they don't offer it with smooth edges because people like the look better without. She thinks they should give her $ for new shirts since it ruined so many before she finally figured it out.

This happens to my husband and I too. It's most likely your zippers on your pants when they are in the washer. We always make sure to zip up all pants and jackets etc before washing them and it has helped!

Is it counter height? Table height? Desk height? I have a chunk missing from my desk which I had to apply duct tape to cover/smooth over. Otherwise it snags my clothes when I am sitting at my desk. Similarly you might be doing an every day activity where you are operating around a rough surface which is catching your shirts - think dishwashing at the sink, getting ready at the vanity, etc. If it is only your shirts, then what activity do you do every day that no one else does (or rarely does)? Good luck with your mystery.

Probably snagging against your zipper/pants button when you are sitting down/leaning against a counter and such.

I get random holes in my and my family's Ts too. I just chocked it up to the washer (like the shirt got wound and wound until it created a little hole. . . I'll be watching this post for other explanations!

Same thing for a couple of years for me too. My mom and I figured out it's where the top of our pants/jeans rub on the shirt. You know that top, corner part above the button that kind of sticks out? The seat belt or the counters rubbing on that spot, then rub a hole in the shirt. I've thrown away 5 or 6 shirts in the last year or two (one of them last week after only wearing it twice!). It's due to that thin, flowly t-shirt fabric. I love how it feels, but hate that I'm wasting my money!!!

Do you throw them in the wash with items that have velcro on them?

OMG! I have had the exact same problem with all my shirts, mostly T's, for the last 2 years. I could not, for the life of me, figure out what the heck was going on. I chalked it up to cheap material. I've read the replies, and the only thing that could apply to me is zippers and seatbelts, though I don't understand how the seatbelt could cause this problem. And, zippers in the wash making holes in the exact same spot on only my shirts? I still think the material itself has a lot to do with it.

Do you clean your eye glasses on your shirt? I have to admit that I do this a lot if I don't have anything else to wipe them with, and I've noticed holes in the same spot of a lot of my shirts.

I've had the same problem for years. I am baffled by it. It's like a phantom hamster is going into my clothes and nibbling little holes in the *exact* same place on each of my t-shirts, right at the belt line, right in the middle. I have no explanation.

don't laugh...but do you check your pants zipper all the time to make sure it's up?

If the holes are on the side it could be your purse.
