What Household Products Make Life a Lot Easier for You?

Hi Everyone,

Are there any products you use around the home that you would definitely recommend to others? I'm talking about products that you will not buy any other brand even if another brand has a really good sale going one. I thought maybe we could help each other out a little so we don't have to waste anymore time and money buying products that aren't really good.

Okay.... I'll share two products with you: The first is Gorilla Glue. I thought it had a silly name, but I gave it a try and discovered how many uses it has for around the house. To give you an idea on how strong the glue is.... I pulled the bottom part of my microwave handle off and I used this glue and it's still stuck together after a year of gluing. Another example.... I'm really impressed with how this glue has held my gate post together. The wood cracked at the bottom and the post was in two pieces. Due to this glue, my gate is still together since last spring. Just make sure to use a little for your projects. Otherwise, it will foam and run down the sides of the object if you do. It really works, and the brand name has "stuck" with me. :)

The other household product I just love is Shout to remove laundry stains. BUT..... wait read on so you buy the right one. It has to be the red spray bottle. (I can only find this bottle in a small size.) It says on the bottle removes 70% more..... and it says gel on the bottle. It comes out "gel like" when you spray. Anyway, I am so happy to have found this particular stain remover product. It really makes life easier in the laundry department. I have removed various stains with it! If you spray the stained clothing within a couple of days and wash it, you'll probably get good results. The best part is there is no rubbing and wearing out the clothes. You just spray the area and let it be for 5 minutes and wash. I have sprayed and waited even a few days before washing, and I still get good results.

So.... now it's your turn. Are you a walking/talking commercial for any household products?

So What Happened?

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for sharing what household products really help you get things done. I do use some of the products that you recommended, yet there were some mentioned that I have not tried. I hope to buy those products soon to try them out.

I have one good thing I use a lot and love it. It is the Mr Clean Magic Eraser. I have a 5 year old who likes to paint and draw and do what every 5 year old loves to do. The magic eraser helps me with cleanups. It is the very best thing to have on hand. It is good for cleaning the stove, countertops, tables EVERYTHING.

I LOVE "A Bar Keeper's Best Friend" it will shine a bathroom/kitchen in no time. It can be found at Walmart/Target.

Another great product is the "Anywhere Clorox" I like to use this on my bathroom & kitchen floors (spray it down, then mop it up) since it's safe for kids & pets....unlike other cleaners out there PineSol, Lytsol etc. that you have to make sure you clean and clean until there is no more residue at all...which of course is difficult to do.

I also agree with the other ladies on the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser..it's awesome!

Hi J.,

What a great idea, to share our favorite products. I LOVE Zout for stain removal and I swear by OxyClean for soaking other, tougher stains out. I have even gotten dried (like, dryer dried) blood and chocolate out, using these 2 products.

I also love the magic eraser, although I have tried a "generic" of this and it worked equally well. I'm also a Tide snob. I've tried a ton of other laundry detergents and I truly believe Tide keeps my whites whiter, longer.

The Pampered Chef mini spatula is the BEST for removing cookies from the cookie sheet and their mini whipper is the only whisk you'll ever need. I have 2 of each in case one is in the dishwasher! :-)

Have fun collecting your information...I can't wait to check back and see what other people like.

BABY WIPES are great stain removers for clothes. My old supervisor had a stain from lunch on his gorgeous silk tie and being a Mom, he asked if I had a baby wipe. Naturally I did, but little did I know how great it works on removing stains. I tried it on my sons down jacket and it removed the dirt and stains immediately and looked as though I'd just thrown the jacket in the washer. Any brand baby wipes does the trick!

Wow these suggestions are great! I don't think mine can beat them but oh well here we go:

For polishing glass around the house, I love Sparkle cleaner, which is a purple solution. It's sold at Jewel (only place I've seen it) and it works TONS better than Windex. I've been using it for years.

For cleaning up mini-stains around the kitchen and to disinfect the highchair after meals, I use Kirkland's wipes. They are hardy, easy to use, and safe. They clean well.

To quickly wipe down dusty shelves and such, I grab a babywipe and clean. They are very non-toxic and non-abrasive to the material being cleaned. They can be used on any surface with no worries.

Love your idea. I don't have more to add (and thank those who gave such good reviews for other products) but i do have a really great link to Real Simple's 100 new uses for old products, such as coffee filters, vinegar, baking soda -- mostly for cleaning. I use mostly vinegar & water to clean everything in my house, and had no idea all the other uses for these products (such as adding small amt of baking soda to a slow running drain pipe, then a little vinegar, and let it do its work). See this link for some really great ideas:

I printed it out and it's on fridge for quick reference.

Hi there-

What a great topic!

I LOVE the following products:

Bar Keepers Friend- for cleaning out sinks, especially porcelain.
Kleenex Viva- Paper Towels...they are durable and totally worth the extra money because I swear you use less than other brands for the same mess!
Costco Baby Wipes- again, durable and are great for toddler butts and cleaning stuff around the house
Angel Soft Toilet Paper- soft, great quality

Hope this helps! Keep them coming!
