What Gym in Grand Prairie?

We are looking to join a gym and I am wondering if anyone has a reccomendation for a gym in south GP. I tried 24 Hour for about 6 months, but I did not like the childcare. Am I asking too much to hope that while my children are at a gym they can get some kind of exercise too? Please let me know if that is unrealistic.

I went and looked at Lifetime Fitness tonight and it seemed ok, the childcare was great! But at $125 a month for my family, I just do not know if it is that great?

Any opinions before I take a plunge?! I am willing to take a guest pass and look at another place or two.

Thanks!

**UPDATE**

After looking online this morning I saw that the South GP YMCA offers Kid Fit Class four days a week for FREE! It is an hour long PE type class for 6 to 11 year olds, just what I am looking for. They also have it during the day and late afternoon, which is perfect since we homeschool. Now I just need to check out the gym and see if it is something we would want to go to. Anyone have experience with membership at this Y? I know it is newly renovated.

One thing that bothered me about Lifetime Fitness is that they have a lot of cool classes for kids, at a high cost though. If I am already shelling out $120+ a month, I do not want to turn around and shell out another $200+ for my kids to take an hour class a week (I have three kids, so each an hour class at $60-$100 each). They offer no free classes for the kids and at over $100 a month I do not see why they cant have a free PE class, well... because they charge over $100 for there PE class.

What can I do next?

Have you tried out LA Fitness? My husband & I go there and we only pay $37.79/person, per month & that includes 2 children per membership. We really love it, my 3 1/2 year old likes it better than his regular daycare. I hope you find something you like, I know how hard it is to find something that is going to work for you & your family.

As an employee of 24 i can say yes you are expecting too much. Kids bodies are not ready for the physical demands of working out until they are twelve. And as for the kids club, the issues usually arise from delayed gratification of the parent not the child. I hope you find somewhere that does suit your needs and i have heard great things about lifetime.

I would absolutely refer Lifetime Fitness. I know it is a lot more money, but you definitely get your money's worth. I have two little girls and they absolutely love going there while I get to enjoy my alone time. Sometimes you can get lower rates if you ask or sometimes you can get lower rates if you work for certain companies.

I've been working out for years at many gyms, in several states and even in Canada. I've never been to a gym that offers a "workout" for the kids in childcare. The 24 Hour Fitness Play area is the best I've ever seen. I've heard that the Lifetime had a great kid care area, but I agree that the price is too high. At 24 Hour, the kids can play basketball, dance to the video game and climb and play on the playgournd equipment. That's exercise! Other gyms had Kid Fit Camp, but it cost extra.

Good Luck.

Doesn't Gr Prairie have a city gymnasium? The mid-city I live in has a gym that charges $25 a year and has all the facilities that the private ones have.

I go to the Lifetime Fitness in Colleyville and LOVE it. The family goes as well. I have teenagers so I don't know about the childcare but have heard good things. I love the feeling of Lifetime it's not like Ballys it's more of a family feel and I know it's safe for my kids to go off by themselves. To me it's worth the money just for the feel of the place not to mention all the great classes and nice staff. Hope his helps.
