What Do I Pack for a 10-Day Trip with a 3-Month Old?

We're flying so there's a tight limit on space; 2 suitcases weighing less than 50 lbs each plus my carry-on & his diaper bag. What extra stuff should I pack in his diaper bag? I'm still breast-feeding so no bottles at least and I'm planning on carrying him in a slingling through the airports and on the flight. What will I need in a carry-on in case our luggage doesn't make it? We'll have a new car-seat, pack n play & umbrella stroller waiting for us when we arrive, so fortunately we won't need to pack those.

What can I do next?

I took my daughter on a plane when she was three months old to Boston. We packed at least two outfits per day,10 diapers a day, and 2 bibs a day. Pack lots of onesies, and sleepers also also. The sling is a good idea but you won't be able to use it on the plane for take offs and landings. They made me take mine off.

If where ur going is warm then just pack onesies and enough bibs to make throught the 10 days and leave things out like socks if you wont need them or any acessories like hats, shoes and 2 or 3 piece outfits. I know how fun it is to dress them up for people but you will have to change alot of diapers and it would be much easier to snap than have to take off the pants and undo buttons on a shirt.

I never fly, but mine and my husbands family both live 3-4 hours away so I have learned to pack and travel light. First of all- Pack the diaper bag as if you are going on a full day's trip. This should provide you with enough "stuff" incase your luggage gets lost. Second, Instead of bibs, there are these things that are made now that are adjustable strings with clips at the end that you clip onto napkins, towels, or just about anything. Don't worry about bath towels, washcloths, or bath toys- just a small bottle of babywash- for body and hair. You can pack small toys that are plastic for bathtub use. Buy diapers and wipes when you get there (they take up alot of room)You should only have enough to get you through the day with a couple extra. Pack yourself clothes that are light and can be versatile- pick clothes from your closet that can be mixed and matched for several outfits so that you don't waste extra space that will be needed for baby. Pack only light makeup- and leave the dryer at home. I never pack a dryer, hairspray, or even a hairbrush when visiting family. Chances are- they have it or I bring extra money to buy it. Good luck!

Fortunately for you 3 month olds still sleep a good bit! :)

Pack in carry on for baby (diaper bag):
diapers (1/hour of trip)
package of wipes
2 outfits (1 in case child spits up/pees/poops and 1 in case luggage gets delayed)
couple pacifies (if you use them)
1-2 small toys (things to look at/chew on/rattle/etc)
hand sanitizer

Pack in carry on for you:
change of clothes
hairbrush
hairbow or ponytail holder (if you have longish hair)
toothbrush & travel sized toothpaste
chapstick/lip gloss
book/magazine for when baby is sleeping
cell phone & charger
wallet with proper id/passports/etc
car keys for when you return! :)

Hint: if you roll clothing items 9as opposed to folding them)it saves space and reduces wrinkles

Security issues:
Get to the airport at least 1.5 hours before flight (ie parked and inside main doors)
If you can print out your ticket at home do it (there is a kiosk for those with tickets already so you don't have to stand in line to get your ticket and have bags checked)
Be prepared to show items in bags
Wear easy on/off shoes as you may be asked to remove them when going through the security check point

Other than having to wait in line it shouldn't be a bad experience :)

Enjoy your trip :)
Adhere to airport rules on what's allowed for carry on items - check airport website for details

Ahhh, the days of flying with itty bitty ones. Believe me, as he gets older, you'll feel that flying with a 3 month old was a piece of cake. As everyone mentioned, make sure you have enough changes of clothes, bibs, burp cloths, diapers, wipes, a blanket, extra pacifiers (if used), and don't forget disposable changing pads and hand sanitizer (this must be less than a 3 oz bottle and in a quart size zip-lock baggy. Pack it on the top of the diaper bag so that it is easier to find during security. Pack what you think you would normally use in one day, and then add a little more. As much as you want to minimize, better safe than sorry. At least for the plane ride.
There is a changing table in at least one of the airplanes restrooms. I would bring the changing pad, diaper, and small box of wipes only. Don't bring the whole bag with you unless absolutely necessary. As you know space is very limited.
I wouldn't worry about packing extra stuff in the carry-on for the baby. Like others said, you can always wash when you get to your destination. Ohh, don't forget to buy yourself water once you go through security. You want to make sure to stay hydrated during the flight so that you don't run into problems with your breastmilk. And a sling is an excellent idea.
It will be a lot easier than anticipated. Good Luck.

Hey I just got back from a three week trip with my 5 kids (by myself) and my youngest is 2 months.

I would just make sure that you have a few changes of clothes- easy things like pj's so that the babys arms and legs stay warm-
spit up clothes.
a few trash bags just in case
a couple pacifiers- if your baby uses them
a lightweight blanket- like a knitt

and what you have already listed-

I am glad you are using a carrier! thats great. There are some really cool ones out there- even more so then what you men tioned you had. If you ever want to talk carriers let me know!

After almost 6 years of traveling with my daughter (mostly flying), the most important thing I've learned is to not pack too much when you are visiting family - they have a washer and dryer! And now-a-days with flying and possible delays, it wouldn't hurt to pack a few extra diapers and bibs in the diaper bag.
