I ran to Kohl's on my lunch to pick up a new suit for my job. I am a size 3 in Junior's. I won't say my age, but my oldest is 11 if that tells you anything. :) There was a lady in the juniors section also purchasing clothing for herself. The only thing is that she was buying a XXL and XL so she was plenty big enough to be buying out of the misses or women's section. However, I am not I can't even keep a size 2 up therefore leaving me in the juniors section.

At what age am I too old to be shoping in the juniors section? If I am already too old can someone recommend a store that sells sizes this little for women?

What can I do next?

Honestly who cares what people think you should wear or what that bigger lady was wearing. As long as someone takes a shower ever day, uses deoderant, and doesnt have her boobs and butt hanging out who cares..

It's not so much about age...it's about taste & style. I think if you're over 12, you'll find both in the musses section. Perhaps you need a specialty store?

Juniors mostly goes by odd sizing (3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19) which many women need ... and the CUT is different. Savvy, at Nordstroms, for example runs off of Junior sizing, even though it very definitely is *not* junior aimed clothing. People often "find" the style, or cut, or size that suits their body best in a certain dept. and stick. Others move about. No matter my weight I cannot shop the missus department... because the waist goes up over my belly button (icky), and the rise tends to be poochy, and the inseams are universally too short. I look FRUMPY and ill fitted in the Missus dept.

Myself, I often shop in the maternity dept. and boy's depts for shirts, because I'm 6'1. Maternity shirts and boy's shirts are actually *long enough* that I can stand up straight. During a fad a few years ago I was able to stock up on a LOT of shirts from the Jr. dept because they were making things reeeeeally long. Sigh. Miss that.

I shop Maternity, Jrs, Mens, Boys... all for different items. For the longest time the only jeans I could buy were Tommy Hilfiger... because they made 28/36s. We shop where we find clothes that fit us best.

Ha ha - I got you guys beat. I'm almost 40 and I still shop juniors as the other sizes just fit weird on me. That being said there are some brands that seem to work for both and are not labeled juniors/misses/etc such as Old Navy, Gap and Express. I've had good luck with work clothes there. But back to wearing juniors - I think anyone who pays that much attention to what you buy probably is jealous or needs a life... just saying =)

Try Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor Loft or Banana Republic. They have clothes for thinner people which seems to be what you are. You could also try Jones New York or INC brands from Macy's. For casual wear, Abercrombie and Fitch runs on the slim side. I like A&F's skinny jeans. They're skin tight on most people, but comfortably snug on me.

do they make appropriate suits in juniors section? I don't think so.
Why aren't you giving your age?
Ok, I am super skinny too, 36, and would never shop in juniors. I shop at banana republic. They have 00 and 0. Ann taylor too. So, I think you both should move to the women's section.

I disagree with almost every post. I personally don't think that women/mothers have any business wearing clothes from the junior department. I don't think there is an "age". There is nothing worse than seeing a mom dressed like her 13 year old daughter. Again, just my opinion, and I understand this is a size issue, and not a style issue.

There are xs and s clothing in misses department stores that would fit your size and style. Places like New York & Company, Banana Republic and Loft would be perfect for you. You don't need to buy teenage clothing because you're looking for a certain size.

I shop in the juniors dept. I am 30 years old (but I look like I'm 20). I am a size 9/10. I would like to be a size 7, but after 2 kids, who knows if I will ever be that small again!

I buy clothing in any section, as long as it fits. Im 5'8 & a L-XL (sizes 12, 13, 14 &15) so whatever those sizes fit into, I think some might be junior.. I dont know. Im almost 37 with grown kids. I dont wear what they do, I have a certain "look", and wherever I find stuff, I buy it. I think you should wear what makes you feel good, whatever the age you are... from whatever section holds those tiny size 3 pants!

I think the Candies line at Kohls is sophosticated enough for any age... I cannot shop in the womens section either, I am the same size as you. I am 30 and have no problem shopping in juniors. I say as long as you are not wearing belly shirts and tube tops shop away. :)

I sometimes shop in juniors. Though, sizing is crazy, I'm often a large in juniors but an xsmall in other stores like Gap or a small like at Abercrombie and such. It's just a sizing game, really.

If the clothes fit you, then who cares what dept you or ANYBODY else shops in. Not sure why you are really worried about it.

Well, at least now we all know that women DO pay attention to what sizes we are picking out for ourselves!!! Can't say I have ever looked at someone elses size they are buying or even cared.

Timberose: I read Jane K's answer before you reported it and I see nothing wrong or rude about it. If you read it more thoroughly, you would have seen that she was simply pointing out the fact that if it fits, then buy it and who cares what dept it's from! And, also noticing that it's kinda strange to be paying attention to someone elses size!! I think you are being a little too sensitive and are we supposed to say what you want to hear instead of what we think? As far as you saying if you can't say anything nice at all, then don't say anything at all...does this not apply to you?!!

I don't think there is a too young or too old as long as the clothes are tasteful! That said, any department store worth it's weight in gold has a petite section that has more mature adult clothing small and short!

I still shop in juniors sometimes and am 34. I am on the larger side in juniors sizes and average if I go to women's/misses.
If you find things that are appropriate and fit buy 'em, who cares what department they came from.

... it is about how a person dresses/their style etc., not about what department they shop in.

Sure, a 50 year old woman, some dress like they are Teenagers.
Whatever floats their boat.
But if they dress with aplomb and appropriateness, then fine!

I shop in the women's department and the Jr's department.
So what, what the size of the woman is.
There is no 'rule' that big women or "old" women can only buy clothes from a certain department in store.
Also, some women are very resourceful, in finding clothing to fit them/their size/their style. And they are very creative in putting together their outfits. And they know where to shop/what department/and how certain brands fit them. Good for them.

I really, don't judge a woman by the 'department' they shop in for clothing.
It really is no big deal.
