So What Happened?

Well, my midwife seems to think it was the way the baby was laying. She says if it starts hurting that bad again to make sure that I call them because it could be a bladder infection. Also, last time I went the baby was head up and now the baby is head down where it needs to be so maybe it was just turning and causing mommmy so much pain!! It's almost over!! Thanks for all your responses!

Maybe its air in your back especially if you ever got pain relievers while in labor in your back. Epiderils, not sure how to spell it. If you ever have gotten in an accident that could be also. However I have heard that depending on how the baby rests all the time maybe towards your spine could be putting pressure on your lower back. The doctor should be able to explain. Good luck.

When I was pregnant with my first baby, I had really bad pains on my right side as well. They woke me up out of my sleep. I happened to have a doctor's appointment the next day for a sonogram. When I told the doctor about the pains, he had the sonographer check the area and it turned out to be gallstones. I was 5 months pregnant. Apparently it is very common to diagnose gallstones during pregnancy.

Good luck.

I hate to tell you this but each time you are pregnant your ligaments relax more and that is why you're back pain is worse
DON"T WEAR Heels if you can I would recommend DANSKO shoes for your back they are even better than flats
Also lay down as much as possible with your feet elevated.

Hope this helps.

Tracy,

It is probably just where the baby is - - with my first no pains, except feeling sick ALL of the time and then the second, she wouldn't stop kicking, but with William, WOW there were a whole bunch of new things, swelling, back pain and something else that I am not going to gross you out with. If it is unbearable and you can't sleep tell your dr. and he/she may let you take a tylenol nighttime. I know that you said it's your 4th, but it doesn't get any easier does it, lol??

GOODLUCK!!

Hi,

I'm a massage therapist specialized in prenatal massage. It could be all muscular, or it could be that your sacro-iliac joint (located in the small of you back, on either side of your sacrum) is out of alignment. A good plan of action would be to get a referral for a chiropractor who's experienced working with pregnant women. S/he can figure out whether there is any joint involvement. It's all just muscular, a chiro might work on it or might erfer you to a massage therapist. Most insurance plans will cover chiropractic, subject to certain limitations. Massage is less likely to be covered, but it's worth checking. Another option for pain relief is acupuncture, which some plans will cover now as well.

If you decide to go for massage, you can search www.massagetherapy.com, for prenatal therapists in your area.

Best of luck,
M.

What i was told during my pregnancy, which i had sever back pain in the last trimester, was that the pain could be caused by the position of the baby's head. She was flipped around so that her face was down (facing my back)instead of up.

I couldn't neccessarily tell you what's wrong but I can suggest something to help relieve the pain. Try getting up on all fours....it could be that the baby is in a wierd position. I had similiar pain towards the end of my pregnancy and even worse during labor. Turned out I was having back labor, which, for me, was excruciating pain on top of regular labor pains...only I didn't know it until after she was born. Had I known I would have done exactly what I just suggested that you try. Try it...how far along are you anyways? Let me know if it helps at all!!

the only non-medicated advice i know is to see a holistic message therapist.. they do pre-natal massages an ask about shiatzu (dont know how to spell it) the pressure points in the feet., mine showed them to my husband and he did them during labor. U may have back labor when you give birth. so you should explore the holistic way of treating it.. I know some people dont believe in holsitics but what's it hurt to try it? a message at best. >>Min is in wlfd. its called rejuvanating touch.. her name is Christine ###-###-####

I also think it could be your sciatic nerve. I had horrible pains down my whole right leg. I found putting heat on my back helped a lot!!!

Does the pain go down your leg. If so it sounds like Siadica (spelling). It's where the baby sits on your Siadic nerve and pinches it. It can be extremely painful. One of the things you can do is get massages to help eleviate the pain. However, if you do go the massage route make sure that you go to somone who knows how to massage pregnant women. There are several pressure points that can cause you to go into labor.

Hi T.
I can't relate myself but my best friend had similar issues and it ended up beign her siatica. her baby girl was resting on it during her pregnancy and it seemed to be similar to what you are saying. ask your doctor if that could be what is wrong. my friend tried massage therapy and "baby yoga" which seemed to help. My friend is also a memebr here and she may also respond herself, her name is Kristine. good luck, S.

T., I was gonna say the same thing, I think it sounds like Sciatica. I had it when I was pregnant. I remember I had a hard time sleep, walking or even sitting down. I used to sleep with a heating pad for a little while until I feel asleep. The Dr. also told me to get on all four and rock my body back and fourth and it can get the baby to move from that spot. I hope that helps alittle. Hope you feel better soon.

I have heard of other women who found it was the baby laying on a nerve. It might also be your sciatic (don't know how to spell it, sorry) nerve being pinched. Ask your Dr. if he thinks it is.

T. I'm going through the same thing but this is my (third pregnancy) second time... Mine is my Syatic Nerve. It goes down my lower back, under the uterus and down my leg it is BY FAR the worst pain I have every felt. And it goes from being only my lower back, to only my leg. I can’t walk well and sleeping is a lost memory. I have been seeing a PT to try and relieve some of the pain. This may not be the same thing but it can’t hurt to ask the doctor. Best of luck

As a guess(you didn't mention how far along you are so I'm going to assume you're past the 20 week mark), I would suggest that it might have something to do with the position your baby is in inside your uterus. Certain funky ways babies can turn inside your belly can put a lot of pressure on your spine and make things *very* uncomfortable.

My suggestions: Consider optimal fetal positioning, a technique where mom does excercises and sits or lays in certain ways that provide the most room for your baby to move around in, which might help take some of that pressure off. There's a great site called www.spinningbabies.com which is loaded with information about that.

Another suggestion would be to visit a chiropractor who specializes in pregnant moms. With all the shifting of weight and the hormonal changes of relaxin in your system, a few chiro adjustments might give you some relief. And in certain rare cases, a baby can kind of get wedged into areas, and the chiro adjustments can help shift things around so your baby can move more freely and give you (both) some comfort.

I hope that's some help to you :)
