What Color Are Your Towels? (Jff)

Just curious?

My husband grew up with his mom buying what ever cheap towel she could get a hold of and has multi colored towels that do not match with anything. I grew up with a household that was ONLY allowed white towels and they all had to match. Now that we are adults both my husband and I have found that we are particular in our color choices for towels. He would prefer only white b/c it drove him nuts as a child that they had all different sorts of towels. And me, on the other hand, wants color b/c we were never allowed color towels while growing up.

So - what color towels do you have and why?

PS (He has his own set of white towels that he uses and I have my "fun" red towels that i LOVE!!!!)

What can I do next?

earth tones....clay, rust, lime greeen, sage, chocolate brown, a few leftover mid-tone blue ones that just won't die.

Living with 2 1/2 men means that my focus is on what will not show dirt, grease, & grime! & we know the whole laundry issue is in trouble when I have to breakout, not only the beach towels, but the dog towels too! :)

My towels are all different colors. None of them match each other or the bathroom, and I couldn't care less.

They are supposed to match?! I have multi colored, whatever was on sale towels. I will be getting a few more this black Friday to get rid of some of the ones that are falling apart. Mostly they are blues and greens.

I would love multicolor towels, but it seems that over the years all our towels are beige. It wasn't always that way, it just seems to be we replaced used color towels with beige. Now, I'm afraid to buy dark color towels because I don't want them to run on my beige towels. It's an endless cycle of beige. For what it's worth, all our walls are beige. We moved in and never painted. I hate beige and swear to never buy anything beige again, but it always happens.

Mine match my bathrooms.
Downstairs: brown & teal
Upstairs: taupe, salmon, cream, & striped of those similar colors.

I hate when my towels look random! LOL

Some of everything! We have the towels we each had in college- mine are pink, his are blue. Then when we got married, we got a set of beige, and a set of dark green. Then over the years we added a few random new towels in different shades of blue or beige. Then we bought bright orange bath towels and different beach towels for our son. We still have baby washcloths, cute animal puppet washcloths that my mom made for me when I was a kid, and then a friend gave me some mint green washcloths. Since we seem to only buy one towel at a time, I'm hoping that we can stick to blue or beige so they'll all go together in the future.

For anything in our house, we have NO earthy tones or pastels. All black/grey/white bases and for actual colors they are jewel tones. Towels are in the purple shades and ruby/reds families for the bathrooms, along with the random leftover towels that we have had forever.

We also have hotel type towels from Sams Club, bought in packs of 6 or 8 for about $25. Hubby prefers these as they are a bit thinner and such (better for the gym bag, etc). Those are a medium blue (older ones) or white. I like the white ones and use those as well.

We have alot of towels for a family of 3. But we just have a "thing" about towels and socks as well! Little luxuries!

We have a set of 2 huge towels that are striped. We also have a bunch of regular sized striped ones (that don't match the big ones but do match each other) we also have different kinds of purple and a bunch of blue.

The big ones we bought ourselves as a wedding present, the striped and blues were his and the different purples were mine before we got together.

We also have misc. baby towels that people gave our dd before she was born.

I have mossy green and tan towels for the boys' bathroom to go with the bear decor in there.
Mine and my husband's bathroom has all blue towels to go with the blue and white decor in there.
The guest bathroom has pink and brown towels that match the pink walls and the chocolate brown accents.
My husband and children grab whatever towel is hanging in the bathroom ~ I think I am the only one in the house who actually knows where the linen closet is!

I have multiple shades of neutral; white, off white, tan, beige, and brown. One day I will get all new towels. My husband is attached to one gross falling apart brown towel that i want to toss in the trash. I'd love to get all new towels, but have trouble committing to a color. My wedding towels were thick and plush. Well turns out I hate thick and plush. Love the bamboo fiber, but they snag like crazy. On the quest for the perfect towel and one day i will have one or two coordinating colors.

Growing up, I too had multi-colored, thread-bare towels... and 30+ years later my mom still uses them! But no longer for the bath though... they've been demoted to the kitchen... well, most of them!

My kids like to use the beach towels, so we have a bunch of those with very bright colors (or whatever colors come in SpongeBob, Dora or whatever... LOL)... in DH's and my bathroom, we have white (Christmas present from awhile back), deep green with kitties embroidered on it (wedding present... still awhile back), pink (decorating phase #1), medium purple (phase #2), medium purple and gray stripes (also part of phase #2), and medium blue (current decorating phase)... when guests come I put out a combo of champagne, chocolate brown and sage green towels for the guests to use...

I have colors I like.
My kids use theirs.
Easy.
I don't expect everyone, to have the same color towels.
Nor do I get hung up on it having to 'match' everything.

My home sounds like your husbands... I've never even thought about that the towels should match! I have old thin ones, which are perfect for putting your hair in! I have fluffy new ones. I have all colors and I don't think any of them match! I guess when I buy a new towel I just go w/whatever mood I'm in and whatever is fitting for that!

What will they think of next... never occurred to me to worry about if my towels matched or not! haha :-)

Cute.
The guest room has a sort of aqua blue for towels (not really sure what the name of the color is, but kinda "beachy" for a beach themed bath; they go nicely with the colors in the guest's bedroom/bath which are neutral colors on the bathroom walls and that aqua for the bedroom walls). The boys' room has navy towels on the shelf they use for everyday use, and then our beach towels on the shelf above that which are happy beachy colored towels, but not one set-different towels for different people)....but those are reserved for when we go swimming or to the beach. The master bath has yellow towels and sage green towels since we have beige walls in the bath, a giant window with a lot of greenery outside it, and the bedroom is a very pale sage green. The half bath off the living room has white trim and accents, so it also has white hand towels. The playroom bathroom has a kind of red color for hand towels to offset the beige walls in the bath, while the playroom has one wall that is the same color.

I would prefer that my towels match the bathroom that they are in but life is way too short to stress about that. Im happy that we have so many towels that I can choose whatever I want really. I have a ton of white ones for our bathroom that are used sometimes and then we have a rainbow of other towels taht rotate around as well
As long as they are clean and dry I am happy =)

We have a set of brown and a set of sage green. They match our shower curtain which is sage, brown, and cream. We also have random towels that we ended up with when we moved from our parents' houses to our home. We have 1 pink, 1 navy, 1 cream, and 1 green. Those are our towels we use when we are running low. We both grew up in houses with every random color, and 1 or 2 sets for when company is over.

I had everyone's threadbare hand me down towels, enough to fill a hotel... like I said, they were falling apart, thread bare, had bleach spots, super thin, every color (mostly purple)... so I bought these really cute, beachy, teal with white hibiscus fluffy towels... and I STILL use the old threadbare ones!!

our towles are whatever is clean. Our house sounds like your husbands childhood home. Before we had kids I could have matching nice towels out (you know the kind that are just for decoration). Those days are long gone. I tried to cling to the idea of having matching colors in each bathroom but gave up a while ago and am happy the ones on the racks are clean!! I dream of the day I will re-decorate!

I used to have sage and beige, but jeez! isn't that boring! (I love all greens though) So now I have bright coral, bright turquoise, a couple of beach towels in shades of blue and one in "Cars" (the movie). Oh, we also have a couple pink butterfly towels. The toddler kind with the little pockets for hands and a hood with antenna on it with wings embroidered on the back.

Well, we are in AZ and LIVE in the pool for the entire summer (6 months of the year) so we mostly have pool towels and I probably have over 60 of them. And every single one of them are different. We don't really have "bathroom" towels, we use the pool towels! I do have two *nice* matching sets of bathroom towels that I hang up in the kids bathroom which guests use when they are here. Then after the party, I take the down and we use our pool towels again! =)

Guest towels: Grey for my in-laws, pale blue for my parents - neutral colors but easy to differentiate so we don't mix them up

Family towels: Kids have yellow - match the bathroom decor

Our towels: Porcelin blue bath sheets - because they were only $11.99 @ Pottery Barn

Hand towels - whatever is clean - sometimes navy blue, sometimes beige w/ damask & fringe, yellow, white -- no rhyme or reason to it

Most of the towels we have are white only because I worked at a hotel for a couple of years and anything that was stained they would throw into bags and once the bag was full they would let the employee's have them. I would bring them home and put some elbow grease into it and they would come clean...

We do also have some maroon ones that I bought to match my shower curtain at the time. Then a few mix ones that the kids have brought home by mistake from the pool and when trying to take them back couldn't find the owner so they were brought back home.
