I have Keratosis Pilaris (or at least I think I Do). I have not been to a dermatologist yet... first I want to see if anyone knows of any lotions etc that helps with the ugly red bumps???
I have this too - started 2 1/2 years ago after my first daughter. I hate it. My friend who is a physician's asst. said to use cetaphil every day - i don't notice a difference. In other words, don't bother with that. Let me know if you find anything that works.
I have had it for several years on and off. It was at its worst after the birth of my sons. I have been to the dermatologist several times and nothing they have prescribed has helped(just cost alot of money). I have found the things that work best are natural products that are gentle. The two I have had the best luck with are Aveda(I scrub gently with the skin polishing scrub, wash with the calming wash and use the repleneshing body mosturizer). They are cheap but a little bit goes a long way. The scrub especially. I have had the same tube since Nov. Recently I have been using the Arbonne Re-9 body wash,serum and lotion. Also not cheap and you have to buy through a rep. The other thing to keep in mind is that it seems that everyone's KP responds differently so what might work for one person might do nothing for the next.
Hi S., I have this too, the lotions that I have received from the doctors didn't help for me. It is so ugly! I have had is since I was pregnant. Is that when yours came out? The only thing that I have found that works is the stuff that I found at a beauty show from a company called Malibu. Go to malibuwellness.com and the product is called Zinc C. It hasn't gone away but it is MUCH better. Sorry, I am not much help but I am curious to hear if your problem came out after having a baby. The dermatologists haven't helped at all. Hope this helps!

Both of my boys are diagnosed with Keratosis pilaris. There is an OTC cream you can get called Amlactin. It is a 12% lactic acid cream and helps your skin exfoliate the plugged hair folicles. Ask the pharmacist for it, a lot of times it is behind the counter. If that doesn't help enough you will have to see a derm because the other treatments (urea cream) are prescription strength.

I get the lovely bumps on my upper arms and upper legs. I read about a lotion called Eucerin that helps. Give it a try. I found it at Target. I can't say whether or not it works because I haven't followed through with putting it on daily.
Hi there, I also have KP. Lucky us :) You don't have to go to a dermatologist because there is nothing they can do - there is no "cure". But you can get OTC products that have made a big difference for me.
I use a product called Glytone Exfoliating Body Wash with a shower poof on my arms and thighs each day. I get it from a website called www.dermstore.com. It's $22, but you only use a tiny amount each day. Also, the website gives you a 10% discount for your one "favorite" product and they have free shipping. In addition to the Glytone, I use Eucerin Plus Intensive Repair Body Creme (from any drugstore) every morning after my shower. When I use it at night, too, I notice even more of an improvement. The condition will never completely go away, but I have far fewer bumps - it's just a little red and splotchy now. I can deal with that. The Dermstore website sells other lotions specifically for KP, but they're also really expensive so since the Eucerin seems to be working, I'm sticking with that.
Also, the Eucerin has alpha-hydroxy so it says to also use a sunscreen, but I have to admit the UV rays of the sun help to improve the condition so I don't use sunscreen on my arms or legs unless I'm going to the beach.
Having KP sucks, but after a lifetime of feeling ugly, I finally feel like something has helped. Good luck!
unfortunatly, not much works. You can get a prescription that calms the redness down, but I don't think it will go away entirely. I had an awful breakout after I had my second child and then it calmed down. If you don't get a prescription, try Jergen's Skin Smoothing Lotion, or go to Sephoria, and ask for the brand to treak KP. I am not sure what it is called, but I know they carry something for it. It was also written up in Allure magazine. It's a bit pricy, but it works. I use the Jergens everyday, and it helps, too. Go to the dermatologist. S/he will give you a prescription for something to bring down the bumps and control the redness.
