My family of five will be relocating to Raleigh, NC on June 1, 2016. I have 2 boys ages 3 & 13, and a 8 year old daughter. We are looking to rent a home in a family orientated neighborhood! The ideal neighborhood would consist of friendly neighbors, plenty of kids,a excellent school systems, convenient shopping, and of course parks/playgrounds. Thank you in advance for your help!

We just moved from Raleigh to Seattle (actually have a house for rent in Durham too if you're interested, 4 BR 2.5 BA). It's great there. We moved due to a great job opportunity but there are some really wonderful areas and schools there. It's growing super fast though, so try to live close to work. Traffic stinks and 40, 70 and 540 can be a huge pain during rush hour. North Hills is wonderful, five forks is as well (very pricey old neighborhoods but beautiful). Northwest Raleigh in the Lynn Road area is great..we lived there for awhile. Cary is awesome too, tons of parks and trails throughout. I'd stay away from south east Raleigh and east Durham. Good luck!

It's been years since I've been in Raleigh but it's an area we always thought might be our go to area.

My hubby got his MBA at Duke and at the time he commuted from the Greensboro area.

We spent much time there and loved it. Best wishes to you!

Friends of mine are in Cary and very happy. The youngish grandparents are there, plus a married daughter and her 2 kids. They love the schools, and the grandparents love all that there is to do with the universities and cultural opportunities in the area, plus boating/recreation on one of the lakes.

I know someone who lives in Wake Forest, which is right next to Raleigh. She moved there from Maryland a few years ago. She loves it. Her neighborhood is beautiful (it's on a golf course), and she is pleased with the school system (she's a teacher, so that was very important to her). The school system does have one really big difference though - elementary school is year round. No long summer break. High school is not year round, which means that her kids are on different school schedules, which can be challenging.

I have no idea what neighborhoods are good there, but we visited a few years ago for a long weekend and fell in love. We pass signs for Raleigh going to visit my sister in SC and my kids always BEG for me to take them back.

Your 3 year old will LOVE Marbles Museum, maybe even the 8 year old.

Good luck in your hunt!
