Just curious to see what everyone feeds their 1 year old for each meal and snacks. I want to make sure he's getting all the right nutrients. The hardest thing is when I have to run errands - what do you bring along?

What can I do next?

If your child has enough teeth, feed them what you are eating. It will not only help you eat healthier because you are worried about veggies and fruits for your kids, but it will also make it easier on you not to prepare two meals. On the go, I always keep a mix of raisens and cheerios in the diaper bag. I also keep a gerber fruit strip and grahm crackers. They are my staples. If I know I'm going to be out way past lunch, then I pack a soynutbutter and jelly sandwich, already precut so it's easy to feed.

As far as snacks, my kids love brocoli in italian dressing. They eat it like it's going out of style. Oh and my kids are 2 1/2 years and 15 months. I also give fruit as a snack, either canned or fresh. Crackers sometimes as treats for them. Just have fun with what they eat. Let them try new things!

my daughter is 15 months and still has only 6 teeth, so i am always glad to see the responses to these questions for more ideas.
here are some things my daughter eats...soft veggies of any kind...canned, frozen or steamed/boiled fresh. canned mandarin oranges, fresh berries, kiwi, canned peaches, bananas, yogurt, cottage cheese, small pieces of cheese, small noodles or cut up noodles, soup with tiny noodles (acini de pepe or tubetini or tiny alphabet) mixed in (makes it easier to feed her), refrigerated ravioli/tortellini, scrambled eggs mixed with tomatoes, cheese, etc. She is not a big fan of meat (texture issue i think), but she will still eat pureed meat mixed in mashed potatoes, adn she still eats 3rd foods like veg chicken dinner, etc. also, she likes any type of pasta roni, mac n cheese, and anything rolled up in a tortilla like cream cheese, lunchmeat and tzatziki, etc. although i try not to give her processed meats like hot dogs and lunchmeat. the gerber graduates foods are great to have on hand when you need a quick meal, but i try to avoid those, because i'm not sure what quality of food can sit on the shelf like that, or how many preservatives, etc!

when on the go, the mott's healthy harvest applesauce and fruit cups are good, but for finger foods, look for mini teddy grahams and goldfish. i would avoid feeding him in the car. that is dangerous.
hope this helps!

I have 3 kids and it always has amazed me that it's so hard to feed a 1 year old. I have always had a hard time there too, although it seems like it would be easy enough, right? Since you are asking about snacks, I'll tell you that cheerios were always a life saver! In the car, I preferred the Gerber puffs, simply because I know they dissolve right away and I had to worry less about choking. (I worry alot!) At 1, my son loved graham crackers (well, any crackers really), little pieces of grapes and apples (again, choking..LOL) little pieces of cheese, breakfast sausages, even bread really. I think it's more about exploring and learning to eat than filling a belly when it comes to snacktime...change it up...it's always fun to watch their faces change if they don't like something! Okay...that sounds mean but you get the idea!

By one year old my kids both ate three small meals a day and I fed them pretty much what the rest of the family ate. You just have to cut it up really small for them. My youngest had ribs on his first birthday and loved them lol, my two did have all their teeth by then though, so it does depend on how many teeth he has, but you can adapt most meals that you would eat for their needs. For snacks to take out I would take cheese strings, cheerios, raisins, apple pieces, bananas are great to throw in your purse/changing bag.
You just need to make sure he is getting a varied diet including all food groups: 5 portions of fruit and veg a day, plenty of milk still and dairy, protein (meat, beans, lentils, eggs) and carbs. Scrambled egg with toast, some yogurt and a fruit would be a good example of a well balanced lunch.
If you do a google search on the food pyramid for toddlers you could find how many portions of each food group a day and what is considered a portion for your little boys age.
