What Age Did Your Baby Give up Morning Naps?

Just curious what the range is for babies giving up their morning naps. My 2 1/2 yr. old gave hers up around 14 months, which I thought was pretty normal...My 10 mo. old seems to be fighting me on them. She is suddenly sleeping MUCH better at night- from like 8:30 to about 7:30 without a peep, which is wonderful! Could she be getting enough sleep at night that she is already transitioning, or should I just stick it out and keep putting her down in the morning. (I try to put her down from 10:30-11:45 in the am and then again with her sister at around 2 or 2;30 in the afternoon...). Thanks!

My son's gave them up between 12-14 months. My daughter is giving them up now at 14 months old.
Their morning naps were 9-10:15ish and afternoon naps are always 1-3 (the baby sleeps from 7:30pm-6:30am and the boys sleep from 8:30pm-7am).
My 14-month old now naps from 12:30-3. I figure she'll do this for a couple of weeks until she gets used to not having the morning nap and then she'll do the 1-3 nap with the boys.

About me: stay at home mom of 4-1/2 & 3-year old boys and a 1-year old girl.

Hi L.,
It's usually around a year old, but as you can see, for some babies, a little sooner and others a little later. Normally when going down to one nap a day, it becomes an earlier nap, right after lunch, so if he's getting up at 7:30, I'd do lunch and put her down for the nap 12:30 or 1:00
Good luck

I would transition to one nap. You won't be able to just skip the AM nap and get her to nap at 2pm (without breakdowns from being over tired). So begin to transition to a heavy snack at about 11am. 11:30 nap - lunch after. And eventually you'll get lunch in first and nap after. But it may be a while before she will go down at the same time as her sister since it's so late! Or you can try to get big sister down at 1:30.

My son was around 12 months when he backed-off to one nap per day. Sometimes we still get two, but usually just one late afternoon and a great night's sleep!

Hi L.,

My 21 month old gave up one of her naps at around 18 months or a little before then. She goes down about 11:30 (she usually wakes in the morning about 6am) and sleeps to nearly 1. She doesn't have an afternoon nap and goes to bed close to 8pm (7:30 on the days she is in daycare). I wish she would have the afternoon nap instead but she basically dictated when her naptime is.

Even if your 10 month old is resisting a morning nap, some quiet time may be just as beneficial. At 10 months, they still need a period of rest, even if it's just reading time but not active play. Where is she napping? Perhaps a change of venue might help to get her to nap. If she naps in her crib than she may feel like she is missing out on the "action". Try letting her nap in a pack n play near where you are.
