What Age Can a Toddler Use a Joovy/Sit'n'Stand?

Hi,

I have two kids, a one-month-old and a 20-month-old. I'm looking for a stroller that I can use for both of them, and like the idea of the Joovy (Sit'n'Stand type) stroller. My question is--how old does my toddler need to be to use the stroller? I believe they recommend two and a half, but he's not even two yet. I wouldn't expect him to be able to stand up, but I was hoping he might be able to use the seat when belted in. He likes to walk himself, but I can't trust that he'll be able to do the whole walk himself (or not have a tantrum) and I can't pick him up and carry him with the newborn in a sling or a stroller. Also, I like the Joovy because it's lightweight and shorter (I have bad wrists and arms, and lightweight is Very important). Anyone used the Joovy Ultralight? Thoughts?
Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi there,

I have the Joovy sit and stand (not sure if it is the ultra-light). I loved the idea of the sit and stand because my two year old is very energetic and the option of sitting v. standing was very appealing. We have had our nieces (the youngest was about 18 months) strapped into the back with no troubles. Just make sure he is strapped b/c they can fall through without it.

Just want to give you a couple warnings about this stroller: it is not very maneuverable, in fact, it is quite difficult to get it to turn. Although it is lightweight, which is great for lifting, it is not easy to turn at all. I have a heck of a time with it and I don't have any problems with my wrists or arms. Also, it has very little room for the toddler on back and virtually no storage room in the basket underneath.

That said, it has been a decent stroller overall and I do still like the sit and stand option. However, given the difficulty in maneuverability, I would not buy it again, nor would I recommend it. I would definitely go with the Maclaran side-by-side instead. More expensive, but so very easy to maneuver, which, to me, makes it worth every penny. Good luck!

our son was about 20 mos when we got the sit'n stand- first we had the joovy then returned it and got the baby trend one. he did great, both sitting and standing, in fact he loved standing and it only took a minute to teach him how to hold on properly so he wouldn't fall. the joovy IS a little smaller, but there was no room for our son to sit when the front was reclined- which it had to be for the carrier to attach. the more weight there is in the front, the harder it was to maneuver, but with a small child i found it to be rather easy to push/turn. just be sure to check out the sitting in back part to make sure it's comfortable in all positions or you child won't sit there anyways

I considered the sit 'n stand types when I needed a double stroller for my 27-month-old and newborn, but I was told a few things that made me choose a Graco Quattro Duo instead:
* The bench is hard and not comfortable for sitting long periods of time.
* Using an infant carrier requires the seat to recline, which doesn't leave much space for the toddler on the bench.
* If the toddler gets tired, there is no way for him to relax or recline.
Yes, a double stroller is bigger and heavier, but it is incredibly easy to maneuver and doesn't require a whole lot more effort than a single stroller. You might want to try a Quattro Duo before you rule them out completely.

he should be fine to use the sit n stand...it is great because he can/will be able to get in and out pretty easy when he gets tired and if you use the strap he can stand when you push (which they like) or has the option to sit. i think i had baby trend brand...it was an older one, so also hard to meuver, but worth it!!

We had a Baby Trend Sit 'n Stand when our youngest was born, our oldest was 3, and it was a great stroller. We had to get the hang of folding it ,but once we did it was really nice. We used it for 2yrs straight, as our oldest was happy to ride, we even took it on numerous vacations with us (trekked across Wash DC for 2wks with it putting at least 30 miles on the stroller). It held up great and it looked nice, was well made.

We relaly liked ours. It had a seat belt on the back seat which we rarely used since our son was older, but in your case you would want to use it. He can lean back on the seat where your infant sits, and it has handles. My boys both really enjoyed it.
