West Boca Versus Boca Community?

I really could use some sound advice, I had asked a similar question when I was early on in my pregnance and I received wonderful responses from Florida moms. I just relocated here from NJ. I have 8 weeks to go before I give birth to my FIRST child...baby girl ..

My doctor is Dr. Fleischer. He is affiliated with both Boca Community and West Boca. I am pre registered and I have taken the tour of West Boca and thought I had made my decision. While taking a class outside the hospital, an instructor who has worked at both hospitals said that she thought that Boca Community was much better.... now I am nervous and confused

I have a large fibroid and i will have to go in for a scheduled C Section. I want a good hospital that is caring (first time mother) and that are experts with C Sections ...

Any advice ...? please ....

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I thank everyone for your responses. It really means so much, especially when you are relocating to a new area. I have chosen Boca Community and I am very happy. It is a shame that West Boca seems to have a reputation of not being very helpful or caring during the birthing and breastfeeding experience.

I am happy with my doctor and now, with my hospital..

Thanks again Ladies and God Bless !

Hi there!

I just delivered my first baby Nov. 6th at West Boca Medical Center. When I took my tour I LOVED the birthing pavillion. I never did tour Boca Community. My experience at West Boca was not so great. I would say 90% of the nurses there were nice but the ones that were bad were REAL bad... I happened to get 2 bad ones... The one was the FIRST nurse I had when I came in for an induction so I was obviously extremely nervous. She was horrible! The 2nd one was the nurse who wheeled me in and took care of me in recovery from my c-section... how fun, right??!!! The major reason I would not choose WBMC again is because of their lack of help with breastfeeding. They would not help me for anything!!! They do not have lactation consultants on staff and when I asked them to call the 2 they have access to they never came. The nurses would not help me learn to have the baby latch on and because of that I had to formula feed the baby for 2 days until we could hire someone to come in... It was really such a horrible experience. I am now exclusively pumping because baby still will not latch and I swear it is due to their unwillingness to help me breastfeed the first few days of his life... Anyway, I am 26 years old and seems as though all of my friends are having babies now... they all have been delivering at Boca Community and seem to really really love it! Sooo, after all of this that is my advice... try Boca Community, ESPECIALLY if you plan on breastfeeding!!! The lactation consultant we called to help at the hospital was actually a nurse at Boca Community named Anne-Marie... I highly recommend her... Good luck!!!

D., Congrats on you little one! I have had 3 kids and had each of them on Boca Community, I wouldn't deliver at any other hospital! To me it is the best hospital in Boca for the delivery ward. THe nurses and staff are wonderful. They are there when you need them at any time day or night and they do give you a number that they can be reached at. I had a friend the delivered at West Boca around the same time as I had my 2nd and she said that she had a horrible experience. She told me that the bathrooms and showers were really dirty and her nurse wasn't very nice either. Take a tour and see what you think. Best of luck to you!

I had my son at Boca Community and LOVED it! Nurses were nice, didn't have to share a room with anyone, people were aloud to stay later than visiting hours, etc.... I recommend Boca Community..

Hi D.!
Welcome to FL and many congratulations to you on the upcoming birth of your daughter! It's a lot of work, but there is nothing more rewarding. Dr. Fleischer delivered both of my children (4 yo daughter & 14 mo son) at West Boca and he is absolutely wonderful - so is West Boca. Bear in mind when making your decision, that West Boca has a level 3 NICU that East Boca doesn't. Also, the maternity staff for both of my deliveries were second to none. I also heard Boca Community was experiencing a lot of cutbacks b/c they are in the red. Not sure if/how that would affect their birthing facility. Ultimately it is up to you and what you are most comfortable with. Good luck you to you and your precious baby girl - what a wonderful way to start 2010! ~H.

BOCA COMMUNITY BOCA COMMUNITY BOCA COMMUNITY!!!!!
I had my daughter there 1 1/2 years ago, and had one or two little "worries" and EVERYONE, down to the regitration clerk were wonderful! The nurses at labor and delivery even gave me their direct number and said to call any hour if I had any questions. The rooms are nice, and there is even a Daddy Lounge with food and drinks for the long hours you may be there. They were all very kind, compassionate and most of all very knowledgeable. They made me very comfortable. Very reassuring. Just my opinion, but I definately recommend them! GOod Luck!! Little girls are the BEST!! :)

I toured both hospitals. After much discussion with my Dr. and people who had gone to both - I chose Boca Community. It was my first baby, and I admit, very needy and nervous. My Dr. loved both hospitals but agreed that I would get a little more needed attention from Community. I must say, the nurses gave me so much attention and calmed my crazy nerves. I had an emergency C-section and was very sick after the baby was born. I was delighted with the care of both my baby and myself. That being said, I have heard wonderful things about West Boca. It all comes down to what type of personality you have. West Boca is much larger and perhaps you might not get the attention you desire???

I had a wonderful experience at West Boca and the Birth Care pavilion is very nice. Where is your Dr more comfortable? The West Boca Nicu is top, god forbid u need it. I found the parking situation a little ridiculous at Boca Community when I went to visit a friend a few years ago, not sure if that's changed. Visit both and go with your gut. Good Luck and congratulations!!! Lisam

Congratulations!
1. You are in GREAT hands. Dr. Fleischer is AWESOME! He delivered my second baby and I were having more, I'd go back to him. Even when things seemed a little scary at one point in my delivery, he made me reassured everything would be okay- he's fantastic!
2. I delivered at Boca Community and had a fabulous experience. Like you, I toured both hospitals and after leaving Boca Community, I honestly felt it was the right place for me. You'll probably hear a lot about West Boca's level 3 nic-u, but I had a friend who had a labor emergency at 30-weeks and she delivered at Boca Community-- They were more than able to handle her needs and the baby's needs in a level 2 nic-u. I have a feeling you will hear a LOT the West Boca level 3-things but the incident with my friend was an actual emergency situation that was handled beautifully by a level 2-- The level 3 gets a LOT of hype. Dr. Fleischer would tell you if he thought you should deliver at West Boca, right? Have you asked him?

Bottom line: You are going to have a wonderful experience wherever you go and you are about to have a baby! I personally found Boca Community to be caring, professional, and wonderful during every moment- from delivery to the time I left with my bundle of joy. My above mentioned friend is a nurse (at a different hospital) and I knew that if she had such a wonderful experience during an emergency situation, then surely I would too... and I absolutely did. Best of luck to you!
