Weird Abnormality in My 15 Month Old

I am just wondering if anyone has has a similar experience. My 15 month old little girl has 3 pea sized lumps in the back of her head. They move under the skin and don't seem to bother her. She has had them since she was real little. I brought her to the Dr and they said they were just lymph nodes and not to worry about them. I am just wondering if anyone has ever heard of this or has had experience with the same kind of thing. I trust my Dr. however, just wondering with other moms if anyone has any input.
Thanks a ton

Lymph nodes in the head? Shop around for a new doctor. Try a chiropractor, homeopath and/or Massage therapsit who does cranial-sacral treatment. Don't know where you live, so I can refer a few people...
Ask them if you should massage the lumps regularly...

I freaked out the first time I noticed them too. My son was coming down with an ear infection which showed up a day or 2 later but when I went in to ask the doctor about them, he brought me a book, set it on the counter and opened his hand to let it fall open to where ever it was going to open to. The page? A diagram of lymph nodes in a child's head. They were at the exact spots I was feeling them. The doctors don't mind double checking though as many mom's find them and freak.

I know that I have had one in my neck for as long as I can remember. My son (now 2 1/2) has had one at the nape of his neck since he was born. I was super worried about it and had his dr check it out. He said the same thing, that it was just lymph nodes and that it is fine AS LONG AS... it doesn't increase in density (feels harder) or grows bigger. If I notice any change to take him in and have it looked at. the one I have in my neck has never changed, nor has my sons. So I would think its pretty safe to say, the drs are right. Just lymph nodes... they are very common and not much to worry about unless they start to change. However if your child does get sick... often times they will swell a bit while they are sick. Hope this makes you feel more comfortable. I understand it's scary.. we are often trained as we grow up that all lumps are bad. Its good to keep an eye on them regardless though. But I think it'll be just fine!! have a great weekend!

I'm no doctor, but I've had two lipomas which sounds similar to what you are mentioning....I've been told that it's basically fatty tissue deposits. One was on my shoulder and was growing in size...it was like the size of a golf ball and would move around too under the skin but caused no pain. It was in a very visible spot though and so large. I had it removed and now have a pretty bad scar. The second is on my tailbone and much smaller so I'm not concerned with it. If it it a lipoma I wouldn't bother having it removed since it's probably covered by her hair. Also, if you were to ever remove it (like if the size changed dramatically) make sure you go through a plastic surgeon. I went through my regular physician and I completely regret it!

I went through the SAME thing with my son (28 months old)about 6 months ago and I was SO freaked out!!! Doctor told me the same thing that it was a swollen lymph node (his is on the back of his neck though) and there was nothing to worry about... It FREAKED me out though.. He still has it and it hasn't changed size at all. My doctor told me that it could stay forever. My friend (38 years old) has had one for 3 years and it's the same thing...

Hi B., I noticed the same thing with my son when he was born- he is now 4 months old. Our ped. told me what it was (I cannot remember the name-but it wasn't lympnodes). He said it was very normal and not to worry about it. It is almost like a fatty little (hard) ball that moves under the skin. Sorry I don't have more info, but just wanted you to know I too, have experienced it!

I actually have one of those on the back of my head. It developed when I was in high school. Mine is more of a fatty deposit like what Stacey C mentioned. I've referred to it as a lipoma, not sure if I'm using the incorrect terminology. If I'm stressed or sick, I find it gets a little larger (by the teeniest, tiniest bit). But otherwise, it's just there. I decided to live with it rather than try to have it surgically excised.

Hi B.- Yes both my son and daughter have had them. They are, indeed, nothing to worry about. Just keep and eye on them. Check every few weeks and make sure they aren't changing or growing. One day you'll check and they will be gone. Scared the heck out of me when I first found them on my son too.

Hi B.,

I'm not a doctor but I do know that there are lymph nodes in the base of your head above your neck (cervical lymph nodes). Lymph nodes are usually the first place you can notice an infection. That's when they swell and you see them, like a small pea sized knot. Sometimes you have no symptoms because the lymph nodes have contained it for the immune system to fight it off. If you can see them, I wouldn't worry but I would do something to boost her immune system so whatever it is, it will go away before there is a problem.

If you're unfamiliar with boosting the immune system in little ones, I'd be glad to give you more information.

My son gets them too, except his are always near his groin. He's gotten them ever since he was a few months old. His dr said the same thing, its nothing to worry about & it just means that his body is probably fighting something. As long as they move & are not hard as a rock, or hurting, then its nothing to worry about. -B. L, too! ;)

My twin 15 month old daughters both have them on the back of their heads and they've been there since they were born. The doctor told me they were normal, I'm not sure she said lymph nodes or whatever but she did say normal. At least we know our kids aren't the only ones, right? :)

my sister had these, but they were behind her ears and on her neck. they were lymph nodes and her sinuses would drain into the and enlarge them. i had her get them checked out bc i went to highschool with a girl who also had these things behind her ears and they ended up being hodgkins disease. i wouldn't worry overmuch, but i would take her to the doctor, and have them checked out. better safe then sorry, and as a mother you always worry. even when 9 out 10 times it's nothing.

i, too, freaked out when i felt these on my son's head! but, he was fighting an earache at the time and the dr said it was just his lymph nodes clearing out the infection. while they are always there, they are more noticeable when the child is sick (just like the ones we can feel in our grown-up necks :)
