Personally I would stay clear of the pills. I did metabolife, lost lots of weight(felt sick, dry mouth, moody) then guess what-when I stopped taking them I gained it all back plus 10 extra pounds!

I have tried weight loss pills and fat eating pills and nothing really did anything. I tried to work out like a fiend in the gym and got no where...........I have tried Nutrisystem before and it has worked. The problem it is very expensive and the food gets VERY boring. Also after you finish you gain weight back again if you go back to the same eating. The Only program that I am having and have had success with is Weight Watchers. Seriously!!! It is by far the only effective program. You eat the same foods you normally would eat but you are able to determine what is really bad and not worth it or what is great. I had NO idea what I was doing wrong until this program. Its very easy, no counting, no weighing like they used to.

J.: Have you tried Weight Watchers or Weight Watchers online? It's the only thing that has worked for me because it really forces you to focus on what and how much you're eating. I've lost 30 pounds in a little under 4 months. It does get frustrating because weight loss takes a long time!! I try to remember I'm losing weight after years of eating terribly, so it is going to take awhile.
Good luck to you!

Hi J. -
Well I have tried Weight Watchers and a bunch of other stuff with almost no results. I don't like restrictive diets either. I recently discovered, through a holistic doctor, that I have Candiasis which is an overgrowth of Candida or yeast in the body. It prevents weight loss and causes all kinds of other health problems. Now that I'm treating it (by natural means) I'm finally losing weight and do not diet. Here are two books I recommend: "The Yeast Connection" by Dr. William G. Crook and "Ultrametabolism" by Dr. Mark Hyman.
Also, if you are in the Las Vegas area, the holistic doctor I see is Dr. Randall Robirds. He's fantastic.
I went to a regular medical doctor in town and had blood tests done, etc. but the medical profession is completely blind to things like yeast in the body, and she had no idea what was wrong with me, yet still tried to prescribe all kinds of medicines...which is ridiculous.

By the way, yeast overgrowth is usually caused by trauma, antibiotics, and/or pregnancy.

Good luck with your quest, I feel for ya...

The only thing that works to loose weight is time, and eating right. Everyone that I know that has used a fad diet, or pills has lost weight at the beginning, but when they stop the diet or, stop the pills, the weight comes right back. Keep at it, drink your water, excercise every day and eat at least 4-5 small meals a day. You can do it!!!

Hi J., don't give up but remember it takes time. I can only tell you about my own way of doing it. When I decided it was time to lose weight I bought a treadmill and prayed every day for help to get out of bed and actually on the machine. It took 2 months before a noticeable difference but I did it. I didn't change my eating habits because I love food. I did change how much of it I ate though. Instead of a #1 and the local burger joint I got a kid's meal. I did have to cut out the soda though. That was the hard part. I hate water but I forced myself to drink it. After about 50 lbs I was at a stand still so I went to GNC and they gave me advice on what to try. Ask them and maybe they can offer something for your situation. I am now 100 lbs. lighter than when I started and still have 50 lbs. to go but I feel much better. Just don't give up and exercise every day. Not only will you look and feel better eventually, if you do it in the morning, your day will go better. Good luck.

Fiber, fiber, fiber. It worked for me. Try introducing lots of fiber into your diet and you will find yourself more satisfied over the course of the day. But, don't be afraid to snack regularly-- of course those snacks should be high in fiber to tie you over till the nect meal. I lost about 20 pounds before becoming pregnant using these tips and have recently returned to them since I am no longer nursing. a high fiber diet, plus water, and exercise and you will not only lose weight but feel much better.

Stay away from the diet pills at all costs-- their side effects are not worth it.

Good luck!

You are doing the right thing by eating right and exercising. Everything else is a fad and does more harm than good.

I found weight watchers was a fabulous way for me to retrain my way of thinking towards food. I had fabulous success with it, and I've not had any problems keeping it off.

Dear J.,

Please do not try any kind of diet pills. Speaking from experience, they are horrible and rob you of a normal life. I went to the doctor and was given a prescription for Phentermine. I lost weight, but felt terrible. I was unable to exercise due to the way the drugs make you feel. I couldn't sleep, it was awful. I would suggest finding a fun exercise program. I was able to finally quit taking diet pills and have kept the weight off by going to Jazzercise! It sounds dorky, but it's tons of fun and helps you lose weight. Weight Watchers is also a wonderful program, I lost 55 pounds. Please don't take diet pills, the minute you quit taking them you tend to gain the weight back plus more. And quite frankly they cost a fortune. I hope this helps and good luck!

Sincerely
C. H.

J.-
I have a friend who is a doctor and told me when I was trying to lose the baby weight to increase my cardio and weight training to get the weight off quicker. Also portion control is key after pregnancy or breastfeeding because when you are either of those two you are hungrier, or at least I was; and then it was hard to change back to old eating habits after I gave birth and stopped breastfeeding.

Some of the ingredients in the weight loss pills are not good for you, and can even throw some of your bodies natural balances off. Some studies have shown bitter orange in too high of doses is harmful (its in a lot of diet pills). And Ephedra was taken off the market because it had many bad side effects, one of which was strokes. So, the best advice I can offer is more exercise, and watch what you eat. The weight comes off slow, but you are not harming your body in any way by doing the weight loss in a healthy manner. My doctor also told me, "it takes 9 months to put the weight on, expect to give yourself that long to get it off." Good luck and hang in there. You can do it.

You say your hungry all the time? How long have you been eating right? Most people think they are eating correctly but in fact are putting their bodies in to what is called "survivor mode" by actually not eating enough. How many times a day do you eat? How big are your portions? When you exercise what are you doing for exercise and how many times per week are you doing it? I haven't seen any supplements that actually work long term. Most work right away but you gain it back plus some in the long run. If it were easy, the whole world would be in shape!
My back ground for asking these questions.. I'm a personal trainer and aerobic kick boxing instructor. We did a 10 week weightloss program that was designed to change a persons way of life. From going to 80% sedentary (which most people are) and 10% active to the opposite.
I'd love to talk to you more about your wieght loss goals( not as a sales call, just to help you!)

Hi! Oh! Weight! I lost the majority of my first baby's weight by simply waiting ..it took me almost two years of course at that point I was then pregnant with my son...he is now three and I finally found something to help. Phentramine...this must be monitored by a DR- heart problems could occur. My DR prescribed it after I gained 25 pounds in 3 months. My metabolism is apparently messed up bad!We are hoping this will kick it into gear-I ride my stationary bike 15 minutes in the morning (your body works better in the morning) and eat small lite meals-sometimes only a few bites-this is a major appetite suprecent. I forget to eat! I have lost 16 pounds in 3 months and two pant sizes. I am finally starting to feel more like myself-I know what you are going thru-hang in there!

I haven't done the diet pill thing. They scare me. I know this may sound strange but I managed to drop a few pounds by not eating anything after 7:00pm. I guess this really only helps if you're an evening snacker like I was, but basically, once diner was over at 6pm, that was it. No food, if I felt like eating, I'd have some water or a cup of decaf tea. Don't get frustrated, just have patience and keep eating healthy with normal size portions and get that exercise in... even just walking a bit.

It doesn't matter what kind of diet or eating plan you are using - the site is just for counting calories and connecting with others who are in the same situation. I keep my food journal open to the public so my friends on that site can view what I eat and keep me on my toes. It's really been working for me! Check it out! It's amazing how it all adds up when you keep track of every bite!

Hey J.,
First of all, depending on how much you need to lose, once you get to the "morbid" size only 4% can lose it without surgery. I know, I had the surgery. So if you are there, don't kick yourself in the pants if you can't or even have trouble losing.
Now a few tips that I have learned. Pop stretches your stomach so you can eat more and caffeine makes you hungry. That's why we can't have pop.
Next, Americans don't know what a serving size is. We used to go into resturants and eat and even have dessert. Now we are generally stuffed without getting dessert. Get an idea what a serving size is and stick to it!
I hope this helps.

Hi J.,
I used to work for a prestigious weight loss company who did a lot of medical research on their products. DON'T DO IT! I took them for awhile and they work, they really do but it is just not worth it. I would love so much to be back in my size 5 jeans like I was before I was married, however, my children and my husband make me happier than my size 5 jeans! I came to a decision that I would rather be alive and happy than dead and skinny, or sick and skinny! ( I have several friends who now have heart complications from taking the supplements). If you continue to eat as healthy as possible and teach your children to exercise then you will still feel good even if you aren't as skinny as some of these younger girls (even though we feel like we are as young as they are!). Be happy, be healthy, don't take supplements! hope i could help! H.

I don't know how long it has been since you gave birth, however I have an 8 month old and it took me until 7 months to lose my weight. At 6 months after baby I was down to 10 pounds to lose and I just got stuck and couldn't get it off. I wouldn't do pills, I think they really mess with your metabolism and even worse with your heart. I ate 4 small meals a day and really counted my calories based on my weight and height. It worked great. I lost my extra pounds in a month and a half. I cooked and prepared my food at home more often and really limited fast food to about 1 to 2 meals a week. i scoped out ahead of time what I would have on the menu, so I knew exactly how many calories I was consuming. I also walk about 3 to 4 times a week with and without baby. I have more energy for everything and enjoy my time with my baby more too. Hope that helps.

Hi J.,
After the birth of my two kids my weight and hormones spiraled out of control. I am currently seeing a Naturopathic doctor who is naturally regulating my hormones. He also recommended an eating plan geared for my blood type called Eat Right for your Type. Between the two the weight is starting to come off. I was like you...nothing I tried worked. You can do an online search for the eating plan. It is really healthy. I bought the books on Amazon.com.

I am not sure about NV however, when I moved here last year I tried Herbalife (it is originally a vitamin company) and they start you on a personalized wieght loss program free if stimulants and NO ephedra or anything in regualr "diet pills" I love it I got tons more energy and lost weight in a flash. I am more than half way to my goal. I started at 320lbs and am down to 200 now I have 40 more to go. I know this is a lot, you probably don't have that much but it just means you will lose your weight faster. If you want to research it go to www.herbalife.com and you can look at all the products and if they will not let you read the labels let me know which ones you want to see and I can fwd them to you. I became a distibutor last year so I can go in to the company website and download and fwd the actual labels to you.

J. - Before you do anything - get your blood work done - you need to know if you are insulin resistant which is the precurser to Diabetes. IF your blood sugar is over 100, you probably have what was called Syndrome X, Metabolic Syndrome, etc. It means you will not be able to lose weight without drastically changing your diet to a low Glycemic program which means eliminating the high glycemic carbs. If you "google" Glycemic Index you will find lots of info. There is also a site called www.releasingfat.com by Dr. Ray Strand it is an internet based program he teaches you how to eat right, exercise, take good quality vitamins. If you don't mind my asking, how tall are you and how much do you weigh? When you say you are trying to eat right, what do you mean? Are you choosing the right foods or are you simply cutting down on how much you eat? If you are breastfeeding, that will help you lose weight quickly, but if you are past this point, I would need more information to help you. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that if you are hungry, you should eat. If you stop eating and you are hungry, your body will go into starvation mode and will start retaining more weight because it wants to survive. Don't simply cut out food, eat the right food and KEEP A SCHEDULE. The secret is eating at the same times every day and knowing when to stop eating. Eat healthy foods such as fruits and veggies, but don't cut out the meat or carbs. So many people think carbs are evil, but they are not. Certainly don't load up on cake and ice cream, but you need the good carbs such as pasta. That is where your body gets its energy to survive the day. If you are still hungry, then it doesn't sound like your idea of "eating right" is the right one. Eat at 7:00 am (breakfast). Try a poached egg or two and some whole grain toast w/margarine. Buy low to nonfat food items and watch the cholesterol and sodium. Having gravy on your potatoes is not a bad thing, just watch how much of each you have. Eat snacks every few hours. Say, 9:30 for the morning snack. Have a yoplait yogurt or fruit. Eat lunch at 11:00 or 12:00 and pack a tuna sandwich and an apple. Throw in a twinkie or some wheat thins if you must. :) Always remember to drink LOTS of water. Eat another snack of celery with peanut butter or carrots at about 2:30 or 3:00 and then have dinner no later than 6:00. Another secret is to not eat at least an hour before you go to bed. Try going for a walk after dinner or, if you choose a dessert, after that. A good dessert would be pudding or a small bowl of ice cream. Maybe just a fruit popsicle. Losing weight does not mean you have to starve yourself or cut out foods you enjoy. It simply means moderation, having a good diet (for the most part), and exercising. When exercising, you should do it for at least an hour. I know that people are saying 30 min each day, but realistically, this is not the case, especially if you are trying to lose weight. An hour every other day will kick start your metabolism and help you burn the fat. Make sure you are stretching, too, because this not only helps you become more flexible, but also burns calories.

I know it can seem like nothing is happening, but it usually is. And, another fact to remember is that muscle weighs more than fat. Judge your size by how you feel and how your clothes fit, not by the scale. You can fit 5 lbs of muscle into the same portion of your body that 1 lb of fat will fit into. Good luck!

Most diet pills are ephedra-free these days so they lack the cardiac side effects of the older ones. However, that was one of the ingredients that actually made them effective. I would recommend weight training. Once you build muscle, your body will naturally increase it's metabolism. The scale may not change too much, especially at the beginning, but you will like the inches that light weight training will take off.
