Hi Ladies. My parents are going to watch out son so my husband and I are able to take a weekend trip to Chicago in April. Does anyone have suggestions on things to see, places to eat, etc. We'll be there Thursday night through Sunday morning. Thank you so much.

I LOVE Chicago. The Navy Pier is a great place to go. If the weather is nice they have boat tours that leave from there. Michigan Ave if you want to shop (or window Shop). Rush street has great restuarants. One of our favorites is Carmines. There are also lots of great museums.

The aquarium is fun (but we took our son there).

Have Fun!!

The Museum of Natural History has great exhibits. There are also lots of theaters to see a good play in Chicago or show tapings you might be able to attend. Gino's East has awesome deep dish pizza! Enjoy your weekend :)

Hi R.,

My hubby and I have gone to Chicago for a long weekend and it is great. There is so much and you probably won't have time to do everything, but definitely check out the Navy Pier and Shedd's Aquarium. If you are into art, the Chicago Musuem of Art, is awesome. You can also walk the Magnificient Mile and check out all the cool stores and buildings throughout Chicago like the Sears Tower--there is so much to see and do. There are tons of great restaurants too--our favorite is the Cheesecake Factory.

Have fun,

Hi R. -

First, I second the opinion of Gino's East. They have the BEST deep dish pizza!

Secondly, you can find so much to do along the "Magnificent Mile". There are plenty of shops at Navy Pier and lots of museums and the like.

Third, if you really want to enjoy yourself, I suggest you bring extra spending cash. I wish I would have known about Mamasource when my hubby and I honeymooned in Chicago for a weekend, because I would have been on asking the same question you are now. We were shocked at the prices of most things there! The parking lot prices are ridiculous (we found some asking upwards of $20, I'm not kidding), gas was more expensive, entertainment was pricey, and I could go on and on...Stuff you can't find out by viewing the City of Chicago's visitor website.

Fourth, if you're driving, STOP AND PAY EVERY TOLL YOU SEE, unless you have one of those i-passes. When my husband and I went on 2007, we didn't know we were supposed to stop at each and every single toll booth, which is apparently what you're supposed to do. Well, this past January we got a nice little bill from the State of Illinois transit authority to the tune of almost $300!!!!! We passed four booths along our way thinking we were only supposed to stop at the booth that's on the exit you take from the freeway when you're ready to exit (I hope that made sense). Nope - according to the transit authority, you're supposed to get off at EACH EXIT, pay the toll, and get back on, unless you have an i-pass, which is a prepaid card that automatically deducts the toll fee each time you pass the toll booth. This of course wasn't clearly labeled and I refused to pay the bill, so they threatened to have my driver's license and registration suspended. The fee for missing each toll is the cost of the toll (80 cents), plus a late fee ($25), plus a missed toll fee ($50).

And finally, fifth, if you and your husband can tolerate sarcastic humor, try dining at Ed Debevic's. The food is mediocre, but the staff razzes everyone, which makes for an entertaining time!

I hope this helps you.

Hi R.---We lived in the Chicago area for nearly 10 years. I can't imagine having to pick just a few things to do, but here would be my suggestions.

Le Colonial-937 Rush St-French/Vietnamese cuisine-FABULOUS
Pepper Lounge-3441 N Sheffield Ave-near the Briar St. Theater-American style dinner menu
Mia Franchesca-Italian-3311 N Clark-FABULOUS
Restaurant Suntori-Sushi-11 E Huron St, downtown-Fabulous, very elegant
Stanley's Bar & Grill-great brunch, build your own bloody Marys-1970 N Lincoln Ave

Blue Man Group-Briar Street Theater-FABULOUS
The Lincoln Park Zoo is free. If you like political comedy, I would recommend seeing if they are taping Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me. It is a Saturday morning Public Radio show produced in Chicago. You'd have to check their schedule at www.wbez.org and then to wait, wait. They usually tape on Thurs PM if they are in town. It is very funny political satire. Check it out on local radio, 91.5. 11 am on Saturdays.

If I think of more, I'll let you know. Oh, of course, the Shedd is great, as well as the Museum of Science and Industry, the Field Museum and the Adler Planetarium. Have fun! Can't wait to get back for a weekend myself.
