Water Bottles for Kids

Hello Everyone,

My 20 month old daughter still uses a sippy cup when we're out. She's been able to drink from a cup on her own for a while so I would like to replace her sippy cups with regular water bottles for when we're out and about. Any recommendations? I would prefer something that's easy to wash and keeps the spout/straw clean. I was looking at the Nalgene Grip-N-Gulp, but based on the photos online, it seems to only have three little holes for water flow and doesn't have anything to cover the spout. I would like to be able to just throw the water bottle into the diaper bag without worrying about keeping the spout/straw part clean. Any recommendations? TIA!

What can I do next?

I have Contigo water bottles. I love them because they don't leak, flip top. I don't have young kids, they just make great travel bottles. I have them for my coffee too.

If you have a Costco membership they currently have three for I think 18 dollars.

I use Klean Kanteen water bottles. They are stainless steel. Easy to clean and come with a variety of tops - including a sippy cup top.
I highly recommend.

My kids have been using these for years. Even my 10 year old still takes one to school everyday. I love them because they never leak (even sideways in a backpack) and there is no straw to remove/clean...no valves, etc. I run them through the dishwasher every day. http://www.amazon.com/Contigo-Autoseal-14-Ounce-Trekker-G...

We also got the 3-pack of Contigo bottles from Costco. The straw kind will definitely be better for your daughter. This is the kind to get: http://www.amazon.com/Contigo-Bottles-Tangerine-Orange-Di...
Definitely much cheaper at Costco than Amazon.

I wouldn't recommend the trekker for your daughter. We have a couple of them and, while it's great for my 6 year old son, it's hard for my 3 year old daughter. She can't push the button hard enough and hold it down the whole time she wants to drink. I don't think a 20 month old would have the strength or dexterity for it.

I like thermos bottles. They keep drinks cold for such a long time. I also like camelbak bottles. All my kids have one of each.

It is not really a water bottle but my son loves his Tervis Cup it has a lid, I can't say it is spill proof but it works great. It has a slide close on the lid. He has a spiderman, avengers, hulk and they keep drinks cold for a very long time and they just go in the dishwaher. I have a big one too and love it!

You can get BPA free plastic, or stainless steel. I have some Camelback bottles that I think are too difficult for a child (and they aren't completely spill proof anyway), but I mention them because they sell replacement straws as well as brushes for cleaning out straws and mouthpieces which can get moldy. We keep extra straws on hand (they can be cut to size for different height bottles) - when we're washing dishes, we just take the narrow brush and dip it in soapy water, stick it into the straw, move it up and down a few times, then rinse - straws and brush drain in the dish drainer. Same for the mouthpiece - it detaches and can be cleaned out and air dried.

So whatever you choose, you will have to clean it, and maybe run the bottle part through the dishwasher now and then. You can probably find a good assortment of cleaning brushes in a sporting goods store that sells a lot of stuff for runners and other athletes who are always toting these things around and leaving them in gym bags.
