Does anyone know if there is any place to have a waterbirth? Are there any birthing centers around here, or hospitals that allow them? At the very least, I'd love a place with great big tubs for laboring even if I can't give birth in there. Thanks so much for all your help!

What can I do next?

Definatly being in contact with more "natural minded" birth attendants like a midwife or cnm (certified nurse midwife) is a must if you are trying to get some info about alternative birth options. I was seeing a GREAT cnm before I found out I was having twins and as they can't deliver multiples I had to start seeing a ob/gyn. Her name is Kathrine Simon and her number is ###-###-#### @ north metro midwives. She will be able to direct you to a good water birth place. I still see her for my yearly exam amoung other things and I couldn't recommend her more highly.

I had my waterbirth at St. Joseph's hospital in St. Paul (HIGHLY recommend it!!!!) I know that HCMC has the option of waterbirth as well. Other than that I'm not sure of anything in the western suburbs. I absolutely recommend driving a few miles out of your way to have the ability to birth in the water though, it was such an awesome experience. My first child was a "dry" birth and honestly the two experiences couldn't have been different. I really didn't have the desire for drugs with the waterbirth (at least until it was wayyyy past the point of no return!).

Good luck!

I had my baby at HCMC intending to do waterbirth with the midwives group. This was the only Mpls hospital that I could find that does waterbirths. I had a wonderful birthing experience at HCMC (I saw one other person's comment about having a C-Section there that didn't go so well). I wasn't able to use the tub because I had protein in my urine the day before and I couldn't urinate to produce another sample when I went into labor. I would highly recommend HCMC midwives. The birthing rooms are great too. Really spacious and homey. You're baby gets to stay in your room the whole time and they were great about asking my permission before they performed any test or did anything with her. I loved that.

I think that North Memorial Hospital in Maple Grove has labor tubs. You cannot deliver in the tub, but you can labor until it is time to push. You can lower the lights and simply relax!

I had my waterbirth at St. Joseph's in St. Paul as well.
I worked with the Health East midwives. They deliver waterbirths at St Josephs and at Woodwinds in Woodbury. My waterbirth was amazing and the midwives were wonderful and supportive as were the nurses. Also, I think there is a birthing center in Hudson, WI if I am remembering correctly from when I was looking this stuff up myself. If you are interested in the Health East midwives you can look up Health East on line. I actually found them originally by doing a search for "Midwives Twin Cities".

The best of luck with your waterbirth! I can't imagine doing it any other way.

Angels'a right, HCMC allows them, but they're horrible. I had my son there, intending on water birth, but ended up emergency C-section. Yeah, I had a "less-than-perfect" (understatement of the decade) birth experience too. There's a birthing center in Woodbury I belive. Plus, if you get in touch with a doula and/or midwife, they can help with this kind of thing too.

Best of luck with #2!

Yes, Waconia hospital offers waterbirth. There is a birthing center in Menomenie, Wisconsin, but I think you have to be within an hours drive from them.
If you want a homebirth, there are many experienced and accomplished midwives in the Twin Cities and also a great water birth tub rental.
Feel free to contact me for more information. I'd also suggest getting into a Bradley natural childbirth class. The only way to change your birth experience is to become more educated.
