We would like to take our 8 yo to DC for a long weekend.
We'll be doing "the usual" attractions.
Can anyone recommend (specifically) a nice place to stay?
Thanks!

What can I do next?

When we went to DC, we also visited family but stayed at a hotel. It was on the outside of DC in Fairfax, VA. It was a HomeSuites or something like that, but it was a nice area and we took the Metro into DC everyday, which was very easy to figure out and follow. We were able to take the subway to near where the attractions were and walk.

AHHHH I CAN'T THINK OF THE NAME OF IT! There's this little retro hotel, moderately priced, maybe Delux? I feel like that's not right :( It's super cute; shag carpeting, pictures of old school barbie and ken on the walls, and the little bar has fun stuff in it like pop rocks and wax lips, LOL!! It's within walking distance of all the museums and touristy stuff :)

Depending on your budget you have many options , Arlington is pretty close to DC , then you also have the Tysons area in VA , several hotel chains including Embassy Suites , Hilton , Marriott , Ritz Carlton , all of which have a shuttle that can take you to a metro station (you are about a 35 -40 min metro ride outside of DC). Alexandria is also nice and again close to metro stations.

There is an Embassy Suites (actually I think there are a couple) but I know for sure the O. is literally across the street from a Metro station. It's beautiful inside, has an indoor heated pool, and they do full free breakfast every day as well as free happy hour every evening. As a kid that's where my parents always took us when we stayed in DC & it was a blast!

We go almost every year since my dad was buried in Arlington National Cemetary in 2002. We prefer the Hilton in Arlington for many reasons: 2 blocks from metro, across the street from family friendly restaurant, 2 blocks from drugstore in case of emergency, reasonably priced, wonderfully helpful staff (no question is stupid), rates INCLUDE parking (which was rare thru last year), very clean. Its our fave place, good luck!

My daughter's 8th grade class is going to DC in a couple weeks (how nice for them!). They are staying at Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arington, so that would be a good place too avoid, tehehe!

I lived in this neighborhood for a year, and have been back to stay at this hotel since. Last I was there (2008) we had a great room that we booked and prepaid the cost and got a significant discount.

It's walking distance to Dupont Circle metro line, walking distance to the Woodley Park Zoo stop as well. Lots of great places to eat in the area.
