My daughter's bottles were getting a real foul milky smell and it seemed no matter what I did, the smell always remain so last night I filled a bowl with water, and a few drops of bleach and let it soak the whole night. This morning I washed them all, triple rinsed them and now the smell of bleach wouldn't leave! So I then boiled the nipples a few minutes, rinsed again and still the bleach smell remained! I had no more nipples so I gave my daughter the bottle despite the bleachy smell, of course this worried me but she won't take her milk in a sippy cup. I am so worried now that she may get sick! I am throwing away all the bottles and buying new ones, which is what I should have done in the first place! Does anyone have experience with this? I really should have followed my mother gut and thrown them away, but she gets so needy for her bottle! Now i am at work and thats all I can think of, am I over-reacting???

What can I do next?

Idont' think a few drops of bleach diluted in bowl of water will be too harmful but I also suggest tossing all bottles & nipples that smell &/or taste like bleach. When my kids were on the bottle, I replaced all nipples every 3 months. I did this cuz, I didn't ( & still don't!) have a dish washer so I worried they weren't getting clean enough but I also read they needed to be replaced every 3 months. Plus, up to a certain point, they move onto the next stage of nipples due oto their age. How many times a day does your daughter take a bottle? Only for milk or for all liquid intake? Does she drink out of a sippy cup at all? This could be the right time to ditch bottles all together & move onto a big girl sippy cup.

Bleach is a toxic chemical. Do NOT give your daughter the nipples. You're going to have to purchase new ones. There is a product called Bac-Out sold at whole foods and other health food stores. I use it on my floors, laundry, fridge... etc... it's a great product and made with lime extracts.

Baking soda and hot water does a good job. I have a thermos that I use for coffee with cream and it tends to get that spoiled milk smell. I wash it with soap and water then soak it in baking soda and water for a while and rinse. Seems to work. I probably wouldn't keep them if they smelled like bleach. I hope this helps.

Never use bleach- it is so toxic. You can use white distilled Vinegar as well instead. You need to buy new bottles.
I do know the feeling though, because we have had this happen as well.
Good Luck.
