Washer/Dryers

We've bought a little house and I'm looking to rationalise our belongings and get space-saving appliances. I am thinking about an all-in-one washer/dryer, instead of two separate machines. Have you had one, and what did you think? So far the reviews I've read online for them are terrible, but I so want them to be worth it!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I'm not in th the US. The wash/dryers here have massive capacities, but the reviews says that they take ages to finish and don't seem to dry towels and jeans properly. I think I'll stick to two machines. Thanks for your help!

Get the biggest washer and dryer you can. Laundry is forever and it is far more efficient to wash 2 large loads than 4 small loads.

They're not worth it. My husband had one when we were dating and it took forever (if at all) for anything to dry. The washing portion worked fine, but drying was terrible. If possible, I would go for a stackable over an all-in-one for space saving.

If you are single or have only one child that does not have many clothes this might work for you but so might washing things out in the sink.

You do realize that these are super small right? That they take forever to do a load since they use 110 electricity? A regular dryer that is electric takes 220 and that's why they can dry the load in a short time. If they used 110 they'll take at least 1 1/2 hour per load to dry, if only that long.

I think the stack-able ones might be a better choice for you. Although when I lived in an apartment I rented a set for a while and I hated them because I always had a load going. They are also extremely small load wise.

I prefer having a full load to wash and getting it all done in a couple of loads instead of taking days with small loads.

From what I've heard, it takes several HOURS to process and fully dry one load........

What about a stackable washer/dryer? Smaller footprint... but they also may have a smaller capacity, also. My daughter and her hubby have one, and haven't had any problems with it.. (other than ruining it putting a bathroom rug in it..... threw it off balance majorly...) Fortunately, the landlord replaced it.

I had a day spa and we needed to conserve space, so, we opted for a large capacity stackable unit and I loved it. It worked great and saved space. Clothes dryed fine. Hope that helps.

My sister just got a w/d combo in her condo, but it has small capacity. She is single. The dryer takes forever, while the washer is typical high-efficiency time, which seems to be about an hour. She said it took 3-4hours to complete one full wash and dry cycle.

Is that the same as a stackable? They're pretty good. I've used them in vacation units. Of course, you can't wash as many clothes at one time...

If you are that tight on space, can you put the washer and dryer in your garage or on a covered back porch? It would work of you really live in So California or someplace where your pipes wouldn't freeze.

I grew up in the 60's to 70's with a one piece W/D and there was seven of us in the family. My mom washed everyday. Everyday. I mean the only time the machine did not run was when it was broke. So in my adult days I would much rather have the two pieces cause then you can do laundry twice as fast, by having a wash load and a drying load at the same time. Julia

I only ever had that when I lived alone and it was provided in my rental apartment as part of my lease. I liked not having to trudge to the laundry mat, but the machine was so small that if there had been more than just me, it would have been a waste of time to deal with.

I'm sure they probably come in larger sizes, but I found it annoying. If you have the ability to stick with separate machines, I would.

I used one of these in Japan and loved it. You need to wash and dry only a small portion of clothes (3 -4 out-fits) - make sure you empty the water collector if there is one.

In Europe we only had a washer, get a little drying rack and a line you can put outside...with planning ahead you can line dry.

We had a stackable washer and dryer when we apartment dwellers. That was the BEST washer we ever had. Yes, it was smaller. However, it worked fine for our family of 3. It's not like I was slaving over laundry.

They're fine if you're not doing much laundry in them, like if you're single with no kids. If you're going to be doing a lot of laundry, though, it's better to go stackable if you can.

space-saving appliance in this case - terrible reviews
monster size washer/dryer - essential. just get it.

If you really need to save space, how about the stacking option (washer below, dryer above)? The loads will be smaller than my front loader, but at least you have it on top of each other. If space were that much of a consideration, I would do that.
