I want to start taking Yoga. I have taken Pilates and love it but would like to participate in a Yoga class with some meditation but I don't know anything about the different types of Yoga out there. Does anyone have a great Guru that they can recommend? Any info would be helpful. I am looking for something in central San Antonio. Thanks.

I take a yoga class at the Synergy Studio(Pearl Brewery) with Jane Goldstein. She teaches Anusara Yoga however, there are several teachers in the studio. Not sure if you would consider central but I live north central and don't mind driving to this wonderful class. I also take an occasional class at Yoga in Motion located off of West Ave./Military Hwy. Hope this is helpful to you.

Yoga in Motion is a wonderful studio at West Avenue and Lockhill-Selma Rd. I went to a few practices there, but the cost was a bit steep for our budget. I ended up joining Women's Super Fitness the cost was affordable. ($16.00 a month and they have childcare). I attend practice there 2 to 4 times a week...the instructor is awesome!! The atmosphere isn't great for meditation. But I can also go to trekking and pilates as well...so it works for me. I hope you find a great studio.

I love yoga. To me it is like an all over body massage. It makes me feel lean, long, and strong. I took a class at my gym for about a year and a half, memorized an hour's worth of yoga and now I do it at home about 3 times per week. You can do the same. I truly believe you should practice yoga all your life to remain flexible and strong --- and stress free. I put on soft music, turn the phone off and the hour is all mine! Enjoy!

There is a studio that just recently opened located in the Pearl Brewery called the Synergy Studio. There are some pretty knowledgeable instructors there. I have not been to the studio since they relocated to the Pearl Brewery, but I have heard that it is very nice. Go to www.synergystudio.com

Hope this helps!

If you want a slower-paced, more mellow class, try Hatha yoga. If you already have a pretty regular Pilates practice, you probably don't need to go to beginner classes...just jump right in! I like Ashtanga yoga...it's a fast-paced, set of sequential poses designed to purify (it's very sweaty) and make your body light and strong. Both of these have a deep relaxation period at the end...it's your choice whether you meditate or not. Kundalini yoga is more meditative...all about the breathing...some chanting. Any yoga you do will help you feel great! There are some great studios in SA...San Antonio Yoga (Helotes) is a beautiful studio...great, great teachers! Nydia's Yoga Therapy is also a good one...she's the happiest teacher around! My personal teacher will be opening a studio in April called Yoga Shala. It will be in the Stone Oak area, on Sigma. Ana is amazing!!! And she's going to have some fantastic teachers there, also, with a variety of different types of yoga. Hope this helps! Do yoga! It will change your life!
