Wanting to Know Exactly When Ovulations Occurs...

hello moms, I was writing to ask some questions about ovulation. In a few months my husband and I are going to try to have a girl. Well we need to time conception a few days before ovulation. I have heard about the ovulation kits, but I'm kinda hesitant about using that being that tells me when I'm ovulating and I want to try a few days before. I have a pretty regular 28 day cycle. Does the 28 days start the first day of your period and end when you have another one and starts all over? When is the peak of your ovulation...day 14 or is it another day? How many days do you usually ovulate and how many are peak? When does it start and when does it end? Within the next few months I am monitoring my period more closely to know exact dates and that sort of thing so when I will be ready to be specific in trying to conceive a girl! Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

You can try all the suggestions and see if they work, but don't be disappointed if you get another boy. They are blessings also. I have six, all boys, and while I didn't consciously try for one or the other, I did want a little girl in there somewhere. Instead I have a nice daughter-in-law and two sweet little granddaughters. It all works out in the end.

Go to americanpregnancy.org for a all of the information that you need. I typed in ovulation cycles for this info. There is such a wide window for ovulating and everything can affect when it happens. So the first thing to do... Remember not to make this process stressful! Good luck to you!

I would highly recommend reading "Take Charge of Your Fertility." It is a great book and one that I think all women should read whether they are TTC or not. As a group we don't seem to know a whole lot about our cycles considering how much they affect our lives!

Definitely chart your basal body temp, it will tell you exactly when you ovulate. If you are planning to start trying in a couple months go ahead and start charting now (at the start of your next cycle), that way you can see the pattern and know if your ovulation time is regular. I did this with both my kids, not for gender selection but b/c of some infertility issues and it helped immensely!

Good luck!

Every woman is different. The first part of your cycle is from the first day of your period until ovulation and the number of days will vary. The second part is called the luteal phase and it's the day of ovulation until the day before your next period. The second part a normal cycle will vary too. It is almost impossible to know the exact day you will ovulate without checking your fertility signs.

Some of the previous posts mentioned taking your temp. That is a small part of it but will still need to know how to chart and interpret them and not everyone has a pre ovulation dip.
There is a lot that goes into knowing your body. The best thing I ever did for myself (reproductivly speaking) was to read the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It's the owners manual for the female reproductive system and it's awesome. You will learn so much about your body!
She also talks in the book a little about timing sex for gender selection using the Shettles method.
Here are some links for you

here is a website with free charting software and TONS of info about fertility

and a link on the fertility friend site about the shettles method

Hi G.,
I realize I am late in repsonding but wanted to share my experience with you. I am currently pregnant with my 3rd and we used the "rhythm method" with all of them and had complete success. I have a regular cycle within about three days. Ovulation occurs 14 days before the first day of your next period, so it can be difficult to pinpoint the exact day. I bought an ovulation kit over the counter for a few bucks and this gives you the few days your are most fertile. We did our business each day for about three days and each time we got pregnant right away. As far as conceiving a girl or boy, I don' that is up to us but to God and He knows what is best. Some of the books others mentioned might have some science behind whether or not you conceive a boy or girl, I don't know. Hope this helps.
God bless,
C. M

I used the "basal body temperature" process when I was dealing with infertility ( many years ago)... it is easy to do and not exspensive.
Google "basal body temperature" and read up on it.
Good Luck

You might want to use the ovulation kit to know when you ovulate so you can plan a few days ahead.

You can use "cycle beads" to help you keep track.

There are also diets to help you choose the gender of your baby. It is a PH issue. So there are certain foods that will make you more or less alkaline/acidic.

Here are two titles of books I found on Amazon.com:
Chasing The Gender Dream
Infant Gender Selection & Personalized Medicine: Consumer's Guide

And here are links to some articles:

http://www.articlesbase.com/babies-articles/choose-the-ge...

http://www.baby-gender-selection.com/genderselectiondiet....

That should get you started! Good luck & have fun!

*How to Concieve Naturally in 6 Months... something like that. It was a pinkish natural coloring. GREAT BOOK!! Specifically gives information on how to concieve naturally.

*Also, not sure about your religious beliefs, but I would recommend the Catholic Church classes NFP on Natural Family Planning, it is 99% affective.

*Pus, if you really want a girl... ;) missonary postition works for us! LOL

There is a book called "How to determine the Sex of your baby" that will help you tremendously in determining how to have the baby you want. It goes into great detail about cycles and peak ovulation times. It really does work! I have the boys to prove it. I don't remember who the author is, but it is a great book to read.

Good Luck!!!

If your cycle is regular (28 day) then ovulation most likely always occurs on day 14 (Day one is the first day of your period). You can be fertile for a week before ovulation. I've read to try for a girl to try every day the week prior to ovulation.

HTHs! :)

Take your temperature. If you take your temperature every morning before you get out of bed you will notice that your temp will go up about a degree the morning of ovulation.

Hi,
I know THE expert personally on this and many more issues...his name is GOD and guess what?..HE determines the sex of your next child...that is if you are meant to have another. He/she is already planned and there is NOTHING you can do to stop the plan. It seems quite humourous to me...all the kits etc...I understand the desire for a daughter...I have 3 sons and my daughter, in that order...hard as you might "try"..God has ordained His plan...period. My advice would be...rather than turning to "kits"...turn to your Heavenly Father and let Him know of your desires. He is THE source...unlike any other! :)Ask Him for His will in your parenting desires...He, after all does know best.

Blessings

Hi G., I agree with Ingrid below. Also, and not to discourage you, but my husband and I tried EVERYTHING to conceive a girl. Following ovulation patterns, temperature...even different "positions" in bed! And although we are ridiculously thankful and blessed, we will be welcoming another new little BOY into our home in about three weeks.
:) Try all you will, but the big guy upstairs often has other plans for us. :)

I second the book recommendation of "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Wechsler.

The best way to be able to predict when your ovulation will occur is by knowing your cycle really well, and that it is regular will work in your favor. Taking your basal temperature every day for several periods and charting them will help you get a feel for how your curve goes and when to expect ovulation.
Good luck!

Cycle starts on the first day of your period. Ovulation is anywhere between! 'Average' is 10-14 days, but my daughter and I both got pregnant on about the 7th day (I have 4 and she was pregnant 4 times -- lost one). I have 2 girls/2 boys, and she has 2 boys/1 girl. When your discharge is clear and 'wet', you're 'fertile'. Notice that a couple months and 'try' just before that when you wish to become pregnant. Hope you get your girl. They're wonderful!

Hi G.,

There is great book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility. The book really lets you get in toon with your body. You can tell where you are in you cycle by checking your cervical mucous and/or you temperature with, I think it's called, a basal thermometer. It's really a very comprehensive book. Good luck.

WebMD (www.webmd.com) has an ovulation/fertility calendar. You just plug your info in and it will tell you what days are most fertile for you. It also gives you the option of picking a calendar that will tell you what to do when to supposedly help you conceive a girl--or a boy.

Everyone has different cycles. It could be day 14 or day 17 or day 9. I've gotten pregnant at 4 different times in my cycle (which has changed over the years, too). My advice is just to go for it and see what you get. Hey, you already have a 50% chance! That's pretty good odds. I don't think it really matters if you conceive early or late during ovulation anyway.
