Hello Moms,
I need a little help, I am a SAHM mom of a four year old boy, we do not make much as for income, so I am wondering is there a public preschool available? If so where and what is the cost? If not can I get some recomandations for a not so outragisuly priced preschool in the eagan area. I am so new at the school thing I am afraid that I am starting him late, if enrollment has started or if it is now over, I basically have no Idea where to start and any help would be very apprecated. I thank you all for ow helpful you all are.

What can I do next?

There are no "free" preschools but the public schools have great scholarship programs, depending on your income level. I'm sure the Eagan Early Childhood Education office could help you. Registration is over but there should still be spots available, especially if you're flexible as far as times. You can call ###-###-#### to reach Eagan Early childhood. He'll love to go to preschool!

If the ECFE programs don't work out for you, preschools run out of churches are usually much less expensive than private schools. They all vary as to how much religion is involved. My kids went to Grace Preschool in Apple Valley, and we loved it. It is a straightforward preschool, only going into the church once for Christmas and once for Easter, very basic stuff.

My niece and nephew go to Hope Lutheran Church's preschool, they are just off Cedar Ave near 62, by the 5-8 Club.

As far as enrolling now, all you can do is ask. You never know, class sizes go up and down, the economy is a factor... just check it out. Good luck!

You can try the Tiny Tots Preschool operated through dist.191 Eagan-Burnsville-Savage and ask for a scholarship that's what I did for my daughter 2 years in a row! I paid $25 a mo. her first year and nothing her second year. They will ask you what you can afford or they did with me anyways. I was a single mom then and didn't qualify for headstart so I went this route.

BTW most preschools fill up in the spring for the following fall but Tiny Tots usually should have a few openings but I'd get right on that.

Try your school district website and look for Early Childhood Education(ECFE). They can help with scholarships I think. It would be worth calling and asking them.

Although most preschools fill up in early spring or even late winter now is when they start getting cancellations from people who enrolled in more than one option, who are moving, etc. It is a great time to make some calls. I agree with the others that you should look into ECFE preschools and ask around about scholarships. I recommend Easter Lutheran Church preschool in Eagan or the various preschool programs run by the City of Eagan's Park and Recs department. I personally know the directors of both of those preschools so feel free to send me a message if you want a name to contact.

I am not sure if the enrollment process is over for certain areas (although I don't think so), but many counties have assistance for families to send their children to preschool, if the cost is too daunting. Call up your local county human services department and they can start to steer you in the right direction. You can also call up schools and ask if they offer scholarships.
