Wanting to Buy a Home in West Plano

I currently live in Allen and although I really like it here, I have several reasons why moving to west plano would be beneficial to my family. But I'm not familiar with communities, schools, and home prices. I'm wondering if those of you who live in West Plano could tell me what areas you would recommend and what the average home price is.

What can I do next?

D.,

I recently moved to Allen from West Plano and think I made a very good move. Was just curious what your reasons for wanting to move to Plano are...maybe I could dispell some rumors for you.

We built our home in West Allen. We still browse West Plano occasionally because we spend a LOT of time in West Plano. We recently put an offer on a home there that we loved but we decided not to follow through because we don't need a larger home (we already have 4000 sq ft on a 1/2 acre lot) on a zero lot line PLUS having to go through all the upgrades to the tune of $100,000+ after spending almost 1 million on the house. It just depends of what you feel it is worth to you.

We are regular members of a top golf club and we frequent West Plano almost daily. I have all my dry cleaning done over there. Some people say we should live there but we don't because......

We chose to build our home on a heavily wooded lot in Allen because.....we love trees, we love privacy (I can't look out my window and see in my neighbor's homes and they can't see me), the schools we are in are good schools. We have heard rumor that our high school will change to Central Plano which is fine by us.

We have several neighbors who have moved from West Plano to our area. They probably know more than I do about the rumor mill. I want my daughter in a stable, good neighborhood, keep her grounded, and make sure she is exposed to all types of people.

Good luck to you!
Susan

Honestly, I think if you are already planning on moving to far west Plano, you may as well go just an extra mile or two down Park Blvd and look into north Carrollton and/or Castle Hills. Home prices are slightly lower, taxes are lower, and you are basically in the same place. There are all price levels ranging up to over $1 Million. A few particularly great neighborhoods here are Castle Hills, The Homestead, and Moore Farm - all very close to west Plano.
