I was off bc pills for 6 months before I got pregnant. My dil was still on them when she got pregnant (3 times) as was my sil.

It typically takes anywhere from 6 months to a year to get pregnant after stopping the pill. Everyone is different though. It may happen sooner or it may take longer. It all depends. I know of people that it took about 2 yrs. for them to conceive after going off birth control. I also know a few people that were pregnant within just a few months after stopping the pill.

I am 31 and have been married for almost 12 yrs. My husband and I have 3 wonderful boys ages 10,7 and 4.

I was always told by my physician that it would take 3 months becuase I had been on birth control for a long time. Funny thing, I got pregnant with my son 1 month after stopping birth control. I would say to not get disappointed even if it takes a year. Key-relax and have fun

I was on birth control for a year and then got off of it and it took me two years to get pregnate. Don't give up if it is meant to be it will happen. Just keep trying. There are books out there that maybe your library has that can tell you your most fertile time and when exactly to do it. My friend is going through the same thing it might take a while. When ever you go on birth control it messes with your cycles and your body and when you go off of it your body doesn't know what to do. Just give it some time.

my dr. told me to wait 2 months after being off birth control to start trying to conceive. it's not that you can't get pregnant before then.. it's that you shouldn't. 2 months is enough time to be sure the drugs are out of your system and won't affect the baby.

usually it takes a couple of months once you have stopped you birth control... for my husband and I it only took 2 weeks! Good luck.

For some people there is not waiting period but for others it is good to wait three months. Unfortunately, like pregnancy, every woman is different and there really is no way to tell on which end you will be. I waited the three months before trying for my first and it still took us over a year to get pregnant, but I was on the pill when I found out I was pregnant with my second just after my oldests first birthday! As you can see there really is no rhyme or reason to it. I will wish you luck and tell you that it cannot hurt to wait just in case.

I was on the pill for about 6 years. I went off the pill in April and was pregnant by the end of July. I hope this helps.

General rule of thumb is 6 months to a year but you should consult with your physician. A lot of it depends on the dosage you were taking.

I had taken the pill for many years and then quite to get pregnant. I had heard it could take up to two years for a healthy couple to get pregnant after stopping the pill, but I was pregnant by the end of two months.

I think the MD's would like for you to be off of them for a few months before concieving. But, I was only off of the pill for 4 weeks and 4 weeks prego with both of my kids.

I am a mother of a child with Spina Bifida. I have been a spokes persons/child for March of Dimesw and also my husband has served on the SB national board and we have been contact partents in the local area. I am telling you this because I want all people who are wanting to become pregnant to wait 3 months if not longer before trying to get pregnant. FYI the pill deplets your folic acid. Also in those 3 months take a multi vitiam along with a folic acid tablet along with leafty green veggies and multi grains. This will help or reduce the chance of a child with a neurotube birth defect. I love my daughter very much and when we were trying there wasnt the evidience that there is now. I dont want to scare you but I always say whats the hurry you will be a mom for life and the vitiams are a good use of $5!! I have a million dollar plus child and I wouldnt trade her but I would like to make it easier for others not to go thru it. Any question please ask!! This such birth defect happens with in the first 21 days you conceive. So that is why the importance of before had is so great!

There was a article in the May 2008 issue of PARENTS magazine that informs you of how long it takes for fertility to return after different forms of birth control. For most of the methods it says 1 to 3 months. However, by personal experience, i have seen it take longer depending on how long you have been on it.

Hi, C.. I think everybody is different. I had several docs tell me I just needed to have one normal (28-32 days) cycle off the pill and I was ready to start trying. I got off the pill last October, had normal cycles right away, started trying in January and conceived in February.

It depends on the birth control. With the shot it usually takes about a year for your ovaries to start ovulating again.

I was on the pill for 6 yrs. When I decided to try and get pregnant my doctor told me to have a regular period before we try and to also take a daily vitamin for extra folic acid. Good Luck getting pregnant!! I have a son that will be 7 tomorrow and I am due to have another baby in October!!

I know that I got pregnant one month after going off the pill. The doctors tell you to wait about 6 months before trying, but I think the biggest reason for that is so that your cycle regulates. Good luck!

When I wanted to get pregnant, lots of people told me their doctors told them to wait at least 2 months. Lots of people think it is to get the "drugs" out of their system. 3 different doctors told me that the reason doctors want us to wait is so they can be more accurate on the due date since they base it on the "first day of your last cycle" and being on the pill can alter that. I agree with lots of the comments...it is different for everyone. I took my temperature (basal body temp) and if you are concerned you might read about it and see what your body does!

I know how you feel. I have been married for just about 8 years now, but we've been together for 10. We have been trying for quite a while and finally went to the Dr. I had been off birth control for probably about 4 years at that point. I think it depends on where you are in your life. Timing may not be right for you right now. Some women get pregnant the minute they forget a pill and some it takes a while. I know it's tough, but like me, we just have to sit back and listen to what God has to say sometimes. I had to learn the same thing. It is still very hard for me to see other women getting pregnant who do nothing but complain about it, or have so many now they can't afford it. I will keep you in prayer and hope that God will give you the child that you want so bad. I can't even fathom the fact that God gave his Son, and I think that is just the most amazing sacrifice. I can't get pregnant right now and want it so bad, that giving up that child would be so devastating. I just keep hoping that some day when the timing is right, I will get pregnant...and you will too...

My 1st pregnancy I actually got pregnant on the pill.

I got pregnant both times when i stopped taking the pill. It was right away. I ended up pg with twins the first time and the Maternal fetal med. doctor told me that most women "hyper-ovulate" when they're just recently off the pill or b.c. which gives higher chances of twins. On a "twins" message board that I'm on, alof of the other mothers conceived their twins within the first month off of birth control. Good Luck!

I got pregnant the month I went off. My dr was surprised said it usually doesn't happen that fast as it has to get out of your system. That pregs was my best one out of the 3. lol

As other people have said everyone is different. I was on the pill for 10+ years, stopped and was pregnant the first month we tried. I was sort of surprised it happened so fast but I know that can be the case. Having one regular cycle (as my dr. suggested) gives you an idea of how your body reacts normally without pills. Start taking a over the counter prenatal vitamin now or ask your OBGYN to prescribe one as early prevention of fetal propblems like spina bifida is very important!

Well, I was off of birth control less than one month before
I got pregnant with my son. He's 2 1/2 and totally great! I was not on the pill though, I was on the Nuva ring. I think your best bet would be to ask you doctor.

I was on the pill for 10 years. I got off the pill in May and was pregnant by October. It took a few months to get out of my system says my OB. Now my best friend got off the pill and she was on as long as I was and got pregnant the following month. It depends on your body type as well. Good Luck!!!

I was told that you have to be off the pill (or birth control methods) for 6 months before you start trying to get pregnant just to make sure all of the chemicals from the pills are out of your system so it won't affect the baby. good luck!!!

It depends on the drugs. I was on Depo injections & they told me that it could take up to a year just to get my period again & then some time after that to regulate it & get to know my cycle. But, it only took us 6 months to get pregnant. This time, even though I don't want to get pg again, I haven't had a period since Aug, my last inj. So, every drug & every woman is different. The biggest thing is to not to stress about it. Learn your cycles & keep "trying". lol Good luck.

My doctor told me to wait until I had a period on my own after going off the pill. How long that takes is different for everyone and depends on what you were on.

It depends on the type of birth control you were using. If it was the pill, it is usually out of your system in one month and you're ready to get pregnant. That's why so many women "panic" if they miss a pill. If you got the shot, it can take up to 6 months to get out of your system & you to start menstruating normally again. I don't know too much about the other types of birth controls so I'm not much help there. Good luck C.!

It can take up to around 18 months for all the hormones to work their way out of your system before pregnancy is achieved.

I got pregnant while taking the pill. I just wasn't good at remembering to take it every day. Don't worry, if it is gods will,it will happen.

Everyone is completely different. For both pregnancies for me, we conceived in the third month of being off of the pill. My doctor told me it could take up to a year after being off the pill. I believe shots may take longer if that is what you were using.

Honestly, not very long, you can ask your doctor about this, but I know a couple of women who did not wait at all and started trying the minute they got off the pill and were pregnant in a month. Contrary to popular belief, once women go off the birth control pill, they are usually very fertile.

Check with your doctor - but normally after a year of not getting preggo, you move onto a fertility doc. and do not worry about doing that. They have so many tools and tricks to help you get preggo. It does not mean invitro right off the bat!

They say to be safe that it can take 3 months to 1 year in order to get pregnant after being off of birth control. It also depends on how long you were on birth control. If you were on birth control for years, it may take awhile for it to get out of your system. I was on birth control for 5 years and conceived in 2 months. I am also 23 years old too. Age is a factor too.

So, if you are older and have been on birth control for years, it may take awhile. This isn't always true for everyone though. They say to wait 3 months of being off birth control to start trying, but I never did that.
