Just to let you know, the walmart in Exton is not a superwalmart so it does not have the groceries a grocery store has. It does have some groceries and most are cheaper but not very much variety. Best to do is go a check it out and see what they have that you like to buy. The real super stores I hear are good.

I used to shop there all the time. The cold cuts are definatly less expensive, most things are a few cents cheaper than the grocery store BUT if you want anything even a little specialty (like really good cheeses, or international things) no chance. For me I find I spend less at regular stores by combining sales and coupons. I have a habit of getting things I don't need at walmart. But yes for the basics, they are less expensive. Just stick to what you need.
If you really want to save some cash on groceries I recommend a place like Amelia's or BB's discount groceries. Those places are great for many items. Just watch the sell by dates. Another great place if you are up for a drive is Shady Maple in East Earl. Their meat is super high quality at very low prices. I go there once every few months, spend about 100 - 150 on meat and have meat for a family of four for three months. Can't beat it!!

Hi B.! I used to shop at Walmart and Super Walmart but still spent a fortune on groceries for our family of 6. My husband and our 3 boys eat a ton of food! I found www.moneysavingmom.com on this forum and started saving so much money! I have cut our grocery bill in half over the past 2 months that I have been following that blog site and doing the things that were recommended. Like planning out meals, using coupons, shopping at the stores for sale prices and stocking up on things that were on sale combined with coupons. There are several good websites for coupons. One is www.coupons.com All of these are mentioned in the money saving mom blog periodically. Also, I learned about going to CVS when they have products that we use on sale and then get a coupon for $2-$10 off the next purchase. I have gotten so many things free there. It took a while to figure all this out but I have saved so much money in the past 2 months by doing this and now it doesn't take much time at all. Hope this helps!

I've not been overly impressed wtih the Walmart Super Store prices. it's nice for a quick trip, but not for regular grocery shopping.

We recently started ordering food through Angel Food Ministries. www.angelfoodministries.com It's basically a whole sale food program (no program requirements) done as a ministry through local churches. You do not need to be a church member. Every month they put together a box of food for $30 that is supposed to feed a family of 4 for a week (at least dinners). If you purchase the regular box, then you're eligible to purchase the other boxes. I really like the fruit/veg box for $20. All my fruit was beautiful last month and my 17 month old loves fresh fruit. This month I also ordered a fajita kit, a steak box, and a mixed meat box. I'm getting all 5 boxes for about $115.

The newark Farmers Market on Kirkwood Highway, which is probably quite a hike for you btu something to keep in mind if you're down this way, has great prices on fruits and veg. We got blueberries, strawberries, a mango, fresh brussel sprouts, 6 large apples, and some chocolate (for mommy) abotu $12 today. Bananas are 25 cents per pound. The mango was 79 cents. They have an incredible variety of fruits available. You may be able to find a local year round farmers market.

B.,

I've never shopped at a Super Walmart but we get our veggies and fruits from Produce Junction. I don't know if there is one near you. I just went today and got a cantaloupe, strawberries, pineapple, 20 granny smith apples, 20 gala apples, 18 red delicious apples for $17. I would probably pay twice that at the supermarket. Some people don't like it because you can't pick your own veggies and fruit like at the store (except for a few items). But the price is definitely worth it. Lately I have been getting some really nice fruit. I also shop the circulars. When a store is having a really good sale on something I know I'll use I pick up several. Shop Rite really has great deals.
