My first child walked at 14 months and my 2nd child walked 1 week after her first birthday. He probably just isnt ready. I have friends who have kids that didn't walk til they were 16-18 months!

My first was walking by 10 months (started around 9) and my second by 13 or 14 months. I've also worked with 15 and 16 month olds who were pretty happy to crawl fast and not so motivated to walk. This is totally normal--let him walk when he's ready and don't push it. His doctor will let you know if there are any actual physical issues as he gets older. :)

No need to worry...It's different for everyone! My son started walking at 11 months, where my daughter didn't walk until just past 13 months. But, now I have a 7mo old daughter and she is already itching to move, so I have a feeling she may be earlier than the other 2!!

It is normal for kids to not be walking yet at 11 months. If I were you, I wouldn't push him. He will walk when he is ready, and then you are going to be wishing that he wouldn't be able to walk because you are going to have to be watching him every minute. Enjoy the time right now where he is not as mobile and you can get a few things done without having to worry about him hurting himself. Pretty soon, he will be running around and climbing on the sofa etc....and you will wish that he was still just rolling around on the floor enjoying some tummy time!!

Both my sons didn't walk on their own until after 1 year, both were about 13 months old. Don't worry about it and don't compare to other kids, all kids develop differently and unless they still aren't walking after about 15 months, then I may be concerned and consult your pediatrician. .

I think the range is something like 11 to 14 months, though it does vary. No, there is nothing wrong with an 11 month old not walking. Will he walk while holding your hands? Is he cruising? Does he get opportunities to try? Just make sure his environment is safe and he has opportunites. He'll be fine.

You can always check with your pediatrician about whether your son is progressing normally. But "normal" is a range, not a little point. Three of my four children walked at about a year old or so. Some friends had children who were walking at nine months! My younger daughter was a more easygoing sort. She didn't see any point in doing things in a hurry. She crawled later than her siblings did (why crawl when rolling gets you where you want to go?), and she finally got around to walking at about sixteen months - two weeks before her younger brother was born! Today she teaches a fifth grade class, so she's moving all the time! Maybe she was saving up her energy.

Walking is as much of a self confidence thing as it is a development thing for our little ones. They need to have the balance and coordination and then confidence in him/herself before they will walk on their own.
Just keep gently encouraging him. When you put him down on the floor, set him down on his feet and let him choose to either sit and crawl or just simply stand there and hold your hand. Do short little bits so you don't overwhelm him. I had a neighbor whose little one was 17 months before he would walk on his own - even though they knew he could, he was just that timid about walking alone.

Some start super early, I've seen a 9mo old walking and they are so cute and tiny BUT it's very dangerous because they are so young and have no common sense yet. Both of my boys started walking right at 11 mos, but most kids start at about a year to 15 months.... at least in my experience. So yours is fine, he's gonna start any day now most likely. They dont "let go" until they feel certain they can do it. Be ready for bumps and bruises and blood, it happens once they start walking..... and oh boy when the running starts that is SO scary to watch :)

Our daughter (2nd child) walked at 11 months but our son (1st child) didn't walk until a few days after his first birthday. I have friends that have children that walked much later than both of our children. There is nothing wrong with your son and you shouldn't push him too hard. There are babies that walk younger than a year old but a lot that also don't walk until over a year old. It depends on the child and their mass. Our son was a very solid guy and had a lot of mass to balance. His cousin was also the same way and he didn't start walking until a few months after his first birthday. One of our friend's had a baby that was very small and petite and he walked at about 10 months old. Then, we had another friend that had a little boy that was also fairly small but he didn't walk until he was about a year and a half old. I actually worried whether there was something wrong with him but it was just that he wasn't interested in walking.

Best of luck. It will happen soon enough and then you will be chasing him everywhere! :-)

Just remember that you shouldn't compare your child to others as ALL babies are different and learn things in their own time. Some babies can be up to 18 months before they start walking. He is just fine, if he doesn't want to walk don't force him! He will learn when he is ready. Trust me, you will be wishing he hadn't learned how once he does! LOL!!!

Don't worry at all! 11 months old is actually earlier than the average age to start walking. Your friends' babies are both walking early. You can look up the average age, but I think it's actually after 12mo. Always talk to your doctor about anything that concerns you, but I'm pretty sure your little one is fine, especially since he can pulling himself up and can crawl. My nephew didn't walk until 14 mo. The most important thing is that he's progessing, always improving his skills.

Don't worry. He'll walk when he's ready. My first child was in a walker (this was many years ago, if that matters) and had a couple of tumbles with it, so we took him out of the walker. He started pulling himself up and was walking at eight months. Our second child never had a walker because we had moved and there was no room for it. He scooted on his bottom until he was a year old, then stood up and walked. When our daughter was born, we had moved again to a bigger place, so she had a walker. It was bigger than the first one (and they're even bigger nowadays) so good thing we had a house, not apartment. She was past a year when she started walking on her own. So every child is different. As long as your little guy is healthy and it sounds like he is, let him go at his own pace. (You do take him in for Well Child visits, don't you?) And don't worry about any other babies, they have their own schedules. Just enjoy him as he is because he's growing and changing every day.

Children progress differently. If he is crawling well then he's doing fine. He might need a little help. My child can't crawl but is starting to walk and she is only 9 mths. If you are worried (which i am sure you are) take him to physical therapy. Some babies don't understand the concept of walking or crawling. All they do at pt is give you new methods of building his strength and teaching him new methods to help him understand walking.

Try not to worry, children walk at various ages. My oldest son was almost 15 months before he walked. My other two sons walked at 11 and 12 months and all three are equally physically coordinated. While it is very common to compare our children to others the same age, we need to remember they are all individuals and their development will differ. Your pediatrician should help with developmental milestones for your child.

All kids walk when they are ready. If he's healthy and not over-weight then you have nothing to worry about. As long as he is walking by 18 months old then you're golden. I walked at 8 months old....both my sons didn't walk until 14 months. My uncle walked at 18 months. He'll do it when he's ready. You don't have to even do anything to help him unless he is interested in being helped. It's a natural process. It's all good!

my girlfriend's daughter did not start walking until 16 months. If you see that there may be other developmental delays other than walking then I would say contact Early Childhood Intervention. Typically around 5-6 months after crawling walking starts so if he was slow to crawl he may be slow to walk. My son was ALWAYS on the go since birth and started around 12 months pulling himself up and cruising around 9 months ... but that is my kiddo. Like I said unless there are any other developmental delay concerns I would wait another 6 months before you get too nervous.

Relax, mom! Unless there are other indications of developmental delay, he's right in the zone for normal. My son didn't walk until he was just past a year old, and I had to keep telling myself to be calm about it, because his sister was up and running (literally) at 9 months. I have one friend whose son didn't get his feet under himself until 15 months. She was sweating it a bit at the time, but her doctor reassured her that while later than many of his peers, he still wasn't the kind of late to be worried about, because eh had hit all the preliminary milestones and there were no signs of trouble.

You can find charts that show what is "normal" development in books or on the internet, and you'll notice that the age range for the various milestones is pretty wide. If you are still concerned after you've gotten the replies on this forum and done a bit more research, you could always take him in to a doctor for a professional opinion. But based on the information in your post, I'd say don't worry.

Milestones have large "normal" ranges for a reason: kids develop at different rates. Your friend's kids may have been walking by 11mo, but guaranteed they WEREN'T doing some of the other things your son IS doing.

The normal range for walking is 9-18 months. Anything before or after is early or late. Both are concerning and deserve a trip to the doc. Anything IN the normal range is... wait for it ... normal. :) Worry in 7 more months. And look back 7 months ago when he was only 4mo old and see how far he's come.

The average age for walking is 13-15 months. Some don't walk until 18 months. Babies who crawl well usually walk a little later. But crawlers develop stronger hands and better dexterity. I have 3 kids 2 crawled and one did not. My crawlers walked at 14 and 15 months my non-crawler walked at 11 months. Don't push him he will do it when he is ready, the important thing is that he is mobile and able to explore.
