hi my 15 month old daughter is not walking yet. She started to walk holding on to stuff recently, then i saw when she was walking that her left foot goes outward when she walks.Do you think that its because she scoots and not crawls? BTW she started scooting when she was 12 months she was late at doing everything.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for your advice. Yesterday my daughter stood up all by her self with no help from any body and i thought she was going to walk but she just stood there. I tried gave her something that she likes so she can walk to me but instead she sat down and scooting to me.

My daughter was also a pretty late walker- 17.5 months! From 15 months she was standing and cruising and crawling very fast but it just took her a long time. I was told by several people that don't call early intervention until 17.5 months because they do services if the child isn't walking by 18 months. I was about to call and my daughter suddenly got it and went from first steps to walking well in under a month. But get her a push toy she can walk holding onto for now so she can practice (this was recommended to me by 2 physical therapists).

My daughter took her first steps when she was just about 14 months - if your ped isn't worried, then don't worry - Sami didn't even crawl until her 1st b-day & that was a backwards crawl she did. Every child does things differently. Our 2nd daughter walked on her 1st - go figure!

My son was a scooter also. He started walking a couple of days before 15 months. He used to get around so fast scooting that he took his time.

you don't need to worry for another three months. if she isn't walking my by 18 mnths talk to her peditrition. my son is 15 mnths and just took his first steps two days ago and has refused to walk since! so you're not alone, babies and toddlers have a lot to learn, it could be that your daughter is focusing on other skills right now

My daughter started walking at 17 months. She was also a scooter so I felt she could see where she was going hence was in no hurry to walk! '

I agree with the others..if her ped is not concerned than I wouldn't be either.

Don't worry about it, my son didn't walk on his feet until he was 2 3/4 years old. I even called a friend of mine who is a pediatric orthopedist down in Atlanta, GA and sent him a video of him walking on his knees. I was told although that was a new one even on him that kids all develop at their own pace and that we can't force change. He is now 14 years old, 6 feet tall and is very active. Also my daughter and 2 of my boys feet turned in, if you are that concerned take your daughter to an orthopedist, if necessary they can put her in special shoes or braces or leave her be depending on the degree in which it turns in.

My son went through a week or two where he turned his feet out. It was a few months after he started walking and it went away never to return. Personally, I would call Early Intervention. It takes about 1 month from them to come out. You can always cancel the appointment. The daughter is in the normal range so likely its nothing to worry about. But if it is something, you don't want to waste any time.

My son started walking a little after he was 15 months old and at first, one of his feet turned out too. He was just figuring out and learning how to do it, so of course it looked funny. It's only been a few weeks since he learned to walk and now he is doing the awesome baby frankenstein walk. He's getting really efficient and his feet are looking more and more straight. Your baby just needs to get the hang of it.

I don't think you should be worried just yet. Many kids start walking later and all of them that I know personally have grown and developed with no adverse affects.
Your daughter's foot turning out when she "cruises" shouldn't worry you either at this point. She is just learning her balance and as she progresses and learns to go forward, it's likely she'll learn to have her feet pointed forward.
My daughter never did crawl in the traditional sense. She's 24 now and perfectly normal.
Your little one will be running before you know it.

Best wishes.
