ok im sure some of you ready my other posting about my almost 12 month old not wanting to nurse and when she does she spits up. anyways i got a lot of feedback saying i was probably pregnant....it hit me that i POSSIBLY could be. so i went to walgreens and they were out of EPT's so i bought a cheapie Walgreens brand. waited till this am to take it and it was NEGATIVE. so i was doing research of how accurate it is and then i discovered it measures 100 ml of HCG. being NEWLY pregnant it wouldnt show up huh?? anyone else used this CHEAPIE test?? what were your results??

What can I do next?

I've always used dollar store pregnancy tests and they work great! You can go to www.peeonastick.com for information about all the different kinds of pregnancy tests.

Hi K.,

I went online and researched this subject recently, as I am newly pregnant-7 weeks today. This may sound absurd, but the dollar store tests can detect 25 mIU, and the Equate test from walmart also detects with the same sensitivity. I took an EPT 6 days before my period was due, and I got a faint positive. Soooo, me being impatient I went to the dollar store and bought about 10 tests, and every one of them was positive, although faint. I have always been able to detect early though. I would go buy a bunch of dollar store tests, and have fun taking them!

I've used Dollar Tree tests and always gotten accurate results. This last time I tested at 4 days late and got a positive.

It has been awhile, but what the last poster said is true.....Find a brand that detects the lower level of HCG, or ask to see if your doctor can do a blood test....Or, just wait, but I was never good at that... :)
Good Luck!

I bought a Walgreens cheapie test and we celebrated the negative with a bottle of champagne. 8 months later, my son (healthy, thank God) was born. It's worth the money to buy the EPT! Good luck!

Hi K.! I used Dollar store pregnancy tests....Yes they do have them for only a dollar......and they were accurate about 4 days before my missed period. I think a pregnancy test is a pregnancy test. If you are pregnant, Congratulations!!

I used the Wal-Mart brand (Equate), and the results were accurate each time (once neg., once positive at 6 weeks along). I personally wouldn't spend a lot of money on the pricey ones, just take care of yourself and wait a few more days. However, your 12mos old could simply be in a nursing strike.

Hello K.. I just wanted to let you know that I have actually spoken with a Dr. about the accuracy of pregnancy tests (I tend to get ultra paranoid if I'm even a day late and always have them on hand). I was joking with him that I alone could keep the pregnancy test companies in business with the amount of money I spend on them and he told me to buy them at the dollar store! I told him I wouldn't trust those and he said they all work the same and can detect the pregnancy hormone and that it doesn't matter if you spend $20 on one or $1 on one. So even if you can't wrap your mind around the dollar store brand, you should be able to rest assured that the Walgreens brand is true and accurate! Good luck to you and your family and I hope it all turns out the way you want. And if you are pregnant... Congratulations! :)

I used this test with both of my kids and it wasn't positive until the actual first day of my missed period, never before. Good luck!

HcG levels double every 2-3 days, so probably take another test in a couple days. The other option is to go to Target and get a test there and test again tomorrow morning. Especially if you're testing really early, results are likely to be most accurate.

OK well I am preggo with # 3 and every pregnancy I have had it has been the dollar store brand that told me, even 2 days after my missed period, so I personally wouldnt count out the "cheapie" tests, they worked for me, but if you are still concearned as your doc to do a blood test, doesnt get more accurate than that! Good luck, oh and btw try talking to a lactation specialist about your breastfeeding probs, a lot of the time it could be a change in your diet, stress or your kiddo might not be feeling well! Keep at it and kudos for breastfeeding you are making a healthier child:)

Hi K.. I'm one of the responders who suggested pregnancy. When my son started refusing, it was just after implantation (3 weeks). I didn't get a positive until 4 weeks along. Hope that helps. Good luck.

For me the cheapie tests usually came back negative (even when pregnant) until about a week after my missed period. Or around 3-4 weeks pregnant. If you have insurance and are really anxious to know you can call your doc and see if they'll do a blood test. Otherwise try a more expensive brand next time. :) Good Luck!

I used a Dollar Tree test the day my period was missed and it came out very positive. The Dollar Tree test is the cheapest one on the market ($1.00), and it was accurate. If you still think you might be, wait a few days and try again. I love the Dollar Tree tests because they're so cheap and you don't feel guilty for using more than one. :)

Hi, K.--

I spent loads trying to test myself each month and ended up supplementing with a bunch of the Dollar Store tests, too. They also would come in faint, but accurate with my positive pregnancies! For only a dollar versus the EPT prices, I would set up two or three tests in a row. They were accurate early on, but some even more faint than others.

You might try some of the Dollar Tree ones just in case.

Good luck! I hope you get the results you are wanting.

Even though I have not used the Walgreens brand of pregnancy tests, I have only purchased the cheap/store brands (Equate -Walmart). And the test results have ben accurate each time. You can alway purchase another test, but usually the tests are pretty standard. Good luck

I used a dollar store pregnancy test (it literally cost $1) and it was accurate when I was less than a week late for my second pregnancy. It was a pretty dim plus sign, but it was visible.

Depends on how pregnant you are at this point if you are. Cheapo tests won't measure until you are several weeks along whereas the more spendy types can pick up much less of the horomone. If you need to know asap go buy a spendy one - otherwise wait another week or week and half and try again. Best of luck!

It does test your HCG levels, and they can flux. By testing first thing in the AM it increases your chance of getting an accurate HCG level.
As for cheep tests, I have not had to do a pregnancy test for 12 years. But it is my understanding that most of the tests are more sensitive, thus an early positive. But this does not mean you are not pregnant. I would wait a day or two and do another one.
