Ok my kids really want one of these vSmile things but all the websites that I looked at (eg, Target, Walmart) have terrible reviews for it. Most complained that it would break easy or be tempermental when it did work.
Others said the money is better spend on the Leap Brand version of it. Any one have experience with wither of these game systems?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! I will continue my research on each of the options before I commit to one. Thankfully I have some time before the holidays!

Hi S.,

I purchased the V.Smile for my daughter almost 3 years ago and we have never had a problem with it. Last Christmas, I also purchased the portable since she liked it so much. I liked the Leapster as well and I think my decision was based around the age categories of the games (I didn't want her to out-grow it in a year like some toys) and the ease of use. The V.Smile seemed to have more games at the time and several age categories. I am still growing her library of games and she still plays it!

Go to both websites and look at the games. See how may years of use you will get out of it. Also look at features. The V.Smile has add ons like the art desk and the dance pad for active play. You can buy an A/C adapter to eliminate batteries. And the portable has a battery pack that you can put in it to recharge. I think I paid $7 on sale at target.

I hope that helps. I know I wrote a lot, but it's good to really check these things out since they are pricey and desirable toys.

Good Luck,
D.

Never had the pleasure of using V-smile or what ever but we have the Leap Pads and all 3 kids love them. (7,5&3) I think most parent prefer leapster over vsmile because of price, but once again, I do not no. Either way, it's better than putting your children in front of the TV with an Xbox or Game Cube!

I have the V-smile and Leapster books. I would go with the Leapster. The V-smile's graphics are horrible- I read about that before I bought it and I didn't think it was going to be a problem- but it is pathetic- if you have ever played basic Nintendo, its similar quality. It doesn't come with an adapter- only batteries, which it kills fast. They do break easy- are buttons are always sticking. My kids both lost interest in the V-smile fast but are still steadily playing with the Leapsters.

Hi S.. i have the Vsmile for my kids (ages 3 & 5) and they love it! They find it easy to play, and the games are great for learning... and since the controller(sp) is just a big button and a joy stick, its great for any age. My daughter has been playing it since she was 2. Even I like it. It is educational but fun at the same time. I havent had any problems with it since Ive had it and its been about almost 3 years now. They play it everyday. It also has two players on some games so they can both play at the same time. ~~~N.
