What to do with a vomitting 3 month old? Is there anything to help? Tis the time to be sick, I've been on hold with the pediatrician's office for about 20 minutes now! I'm worried about her not getting enough liquids. She wants to eat but everthing has been coming back up for the past 24 hours.

What can I do next?

When my daughter was a few months old she had problems with her formula. Did you try a different formula? The doctor might suggest that. What type of formula is she on? Sometimes they just have a little problem with the formula. My daughter started out on the Similac then had to be switched to Isomil and the to Neutromigen. So sometimes you just have to try them out but once she was settled she didn't have a problem any longer and she stopped vommiting. Good luck! Happy Holidays as well!!

If the baby has been vomiting for 24 hours now with not much staying down I would bypass the ped office and go to the ER. Babies dont have much, if any, "reserves" for when they get sick. They dehydrate VERY EASILY!!! They are probably going to need to put IV fluids in her just to get something in her. (I have been down that road its no fun but its something). However in the meantime you could give her 1-2 of pedialite and if that doesnt stay down definetly take her to the ER.
Good luck

When my child is vomiting I do not feed them until at 2-3 hours after they have stopped vomiting. THe body has to have the time to calm down after going through that. SO if you keep feeding her she will continue to throw up. You will know if she is dehydrated by her skin and if she's not urinating enough. Give her a little bit of water at a time to see if she will keep it down. IF she does become dehydrated you will to contact your doctor. She may need intravenous fluids.

Check out the website www.askdrsears.com. It is a great informative website. I use it a lot. Let your baby's tummy rest for a bit and then try to give her water.Just a tiny bit at a time and see if she can keep it down. There is a nasty bug going around. My son vomitted for 8 days! And one of our friends' son had it for 10 days. The main thing is to get fluids into yo ur baby. Definitely talk to your pediatrician again if she continues to vomit and seems to get dehydrated (no pee, no tears, no saliva in mouth).

The doctor's office will probably suggest giving her pedialyte. There are different flavors of pedialyte and you should give her one to two ounces at a time. The pedialyte will help to keep her hydrated.

Is the vomiting a recent problem or something that has been going on a while? Has this been going on for more than 2 days?

If it's the flu, you just have to wait it out. There are anti nausia medicines, but I don't think they are approved for infants. Once everything is out of her system, she won't be puking anymore. Just wait it out. I know Meijers had a generic brand on sale for like $4.00.

If this vomiting has been going on for some time, then this may be a sign of a gastro-intestinal problem. Perhaps the flap going to the stomach is under-developed and it causes everything to come up. She might have acid reflux. She might be allergic to the formula you are feeding her or something in your breastmilk.

When my son was little, he had all of those problems. I had to keep him sitting up all the time until he was about 6 months (and he was sitting up on his own all the time). I used to put him in a bouncer, the infant carrier, swing, jumper in the hallway, etc. As soon as he laid down, it would all come up. It was like a spewing fire hydrant.

Call the doctor and see if they can determine if the problem is an allergy, acid reflux, under-developed esophogus/stomach, or the flu. You might have to do some trial and error to figure out what works... I had to.

You might also try putting about a teaspoon of cooked cereal into her bottles. Since it's heavier than formula, it helps the food stay down in the tummy.

Oh my goodness L., be very careful little ones can dehydrate so easy and very quickly, their little bodies don't have enough fluid in them to be vomiting everything for 24 hours. If it were me I would hang up the phhone and head straight for the hospital. My little girl done the same thing when she was 2 years for 36 hours and she was so dehydrated that they had to put an IV in her and keep her for 24 hours in the hospital. I had no clue she was that drained, she was still playing. Be very careful with her and may GOD be with you and your family.

My son will be 3 months on 12/28. He's already had a stomach bug too. He vomited a few times one day last week. He only had a low fever. I've always read that it was best to just keep hydrating them, even if they throw it up. I didn't give Tylenol because the immune system works better when the body is warm, and his fever was low. I breastfeed, so I just kept nursing him and held him almost the whole day he was sick. He got over it within 24 hours.

Try giving her pedialite by the 1/2 teaspoon full, use a med dropper, give it to her every 20min and gradually increase, if she vomits start over again. Keep on the full strength formula and let her take it if she wants it she will get something from it even if she vomits back up. Squeeze her finger tip if it still turns white like normal she is not dehydrated... also on the fattiest part of her body (belly maybe) gently pinch you should be able to pull up the fat layer and skin if you get only skin she could be dehydrated and needs to go to ER. My oldest did this ALL the time... and I always got it too so beware. We always slept with the baby in the recliner or on the living room floor when they were older with a "bucket" beside us to catch as much as we could and make sure they didnt choke or anything. Good luck I know its scary the first time they get it. Hang in there!
