My 1 year old niece was here in my small apartment and she vomited about 8 times in my tiled walk-way and and 1 in my carpeted hallway. Now as soon as you walk in my apartment it smells like vomit, woolite, and lavander(thanks to my cleaning stuff). How in the world do i get all the "lovely" smells out. My husband and I are both very stomach sensitive. We just smell it and it makes our stomach upset. Poor baby she went to the er and they told her she has a stomach virus. So she was here all day with my two boys, so now i am just waiting for the vomit to start flying. Thanks moms in advance for all the suggestions.

So What Happened?

I used a little woolite and baking powder and left the door open for a while. Thank God that boys have not vomited once.( Fingers crossed) ;-) Thanks everyone.

Try Simple Solution Staina and Odor Remover. It does wonders for urine and it says it also takes care of vomit. You can get it at most pet stores. Good luck!!

Go to the pet store and buy Nature's Miracle in the cat section. It is for cat pee but its enzymes work on any organic matter. I've used it when my son vomitted on our wool area rug and the couch. You can put your nose right into them - no smell at all. I've also used it for spilled milk in the car and of course it's original purpose - cat pee. Follow the directions exactly - don't dilute it. Pour it on and saturate the carpet. Let it dry - it will take awhile to dry but when it does the smell will be gone!

I know this works on animal urine smell so I would assume it would work on vomit as well. The smell is most likely coming from the carpet. Sprinkly baking soda on the spot on the carpet and cover with newspaper. Let sit for as long as you can, at least 24 hours if possible. Pull up the newspaper and vacuum up the baking soda. I did this on a spot in my home office where my dog had multiple accidents and it worked like a charm.

This works for skunks, you can try it, woolite heavy carpet cleaner and spray it directly on the area of wood and carpeting, let sit until dry and then vacuum up. My husband was sprayed by a skunk and this took the smell out of both his truck, fabric and headliner, as well as him without the proverbial tomato juice that never works.

hope it helps,
K.

Try baking soda and water to clean it up. I think that worked for us when our middle child had the stomach virus. If that doesn't work we also used Borax(laundry aisle) and it has directions on the box too. It also gets smells off clothes when you use it in your wash.

I know you're hoping to find out how to get the vomit smell out, but you might give it a day or two. If your little boys got it, you might want to do the floors all at once. I know boys that age don't usually say "mom, I'm gonna be sick." My 18 month old got a stomach virus about 2 months ago and vomited like 5 times on my couch before I could get him up and into the bathroom. The other ladies had some good advice for products. If you have a steam cleaner, just clean it over and over. I have a sensitive stomach, too, I feel for you!
