Hi M..

I have a 5 year old little boy. I give him the Flinston Gummies. He loves them. Its just like a gummie life savor but in the shape of flinston characters. They have in them what a woman gives a baby when she is breastfeeding them. Some doctors have also recommended them for adults as well. That is the way I would go.

Good Luck!

M.

Don't get any vitamins from Walmart! They mostly come from China and God knows what's in them.

Really, your daughter needs good, quality vitamins. This is not the place to be thrifty. If you want to save money, eat more rice and beans dinners, eat out less, cancel the cable or the dish. But don't give dangerous supplements to your little one!!

Even aside from the dangers, the forms of vitamins used by cheap manufacturers are in many cases useless, at best. For example, calciumj. Yes, it's technically calcium. But it's not a form that is useful to the human body. You might as well eat sea shells or sidewalk chalk.

Go to your local health food store and ask them what is th best choice.

PS and the best defense against colds is washing hands frequently, and taking mushroom complex and a probiotic (acidophilus, but look for a multi-dophilus complex). Also, very, very important to keep her sugar intake low. That includes juice! Sugar kills the immune system.

Flintstones has a great, My First Vitamin, which we started offering my son at 2. It took him a while to start eating them, but now he would eat the entire bottle if I let him.

Okay, maybe I am the odd ball here, but my kids do not like Flintstone's vitamins! I use the "L'il Critters" Gummy Vites and they are delicious!! Plus, you get NO artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. They have them at Wal-Mart and Target. They are made in Vancouver, WA by Northwest Natural Products. They even have a variety with added immune boosters, that are just as delicious! I think it is a great idea for you to help boost her system with an added multivitamin.

My daughter is 2 and a half and we got her on the Flinstone vitamins My first vitamins. They say they are just right for age two and we get them at Wal-Mart. She loves them and most days she is the one to remind me she needs one!!!!! Gets all excited and jumps around when she gets it. I'm not sure if its the vitamins or her but I can count on half a hand how many times she has been sick in her life(course vitamins started at 2). Best of luck!!!

I just got back from my daughters 2 year old exam and asked the same thing, they said the gummy vitamins or flintstones were fine.

I understand other peoples concerns about vitamins, and if you can afford something better, or have access to something better, it might be worth it for qualitys sake... BUT, for example, I was on the walmart prenatal vitamins during my pregnancy and was very healthy and could tell they were working great. And I grew up on flintstone vitamins... there are alot of studies about vitamins that say different things.

The way I see it, I feed my girl highly nutritious diet (almost vegetarian) with little or no processed foods ever and enriched soymilk (with omega 3 added). If she needs anything, it won't be much, so Im ok with the vitamins I have. I'm sure I'll grab some of the fancy ones next trip I take up to the Natural Foods Store, but Im not stressing about it ;-)

I know how frustrating it is to have sich children but they really need illness to build their immune systems. I am including a couple of links below.

By all means as parent we should strive to keep children as healthy as possible but it can be overdone. There are some who think kids that are kept too healthy/clean are the ones who get MS. Several of my friends have MS and were kept spotlessly clean as children and never allowed outside or to play around other children.

"In children, studies have shown that respiratory infections increase in frequency from birth until a peak by age 6 followed by a sharp decline after age 7, irrespective of treatment. In other words, it seems to be a normal feature of childhood to experience a variety of acute inflammations, especially respiratory, in the first seven years of life." Excerp from the following link:

Here's another option too:

Vitamins can be a wonderful addition to healthy eating so use what vitamins you think are best and do hand washing and wiping down toys and common surfaces to be as clean as possible.

Arbonne has great vitamins that are formulated for kids that has all the suggested vitamins + superfoods. Superfoods is all of the foods that are good for us that we don't eat. I would suggest those they are the best and in addition I would get children's vitamin C which builds immune system. Ck out www.successfromtheheart.myarbonne.com and go to hybrids for kids comes in a powder to make punch or koolaid

When I was a kid, we used Flintstones vitamins. I always hated the flavor of the iron ones, but iron is still very important for kids to get. (I always preferred the flavor of the pink bottle ones.) We just started our 17-month-old on a multi-vitamin with iron because he was eating dirt (a sign of iron deficiency). We're using Enfamil Poly-Vi-Sol liquid vitamins, which are good up to age four from the labeling. So far he has no problems taking it.

A great source for vitamins is www.swansonvitamins.com. The prices are very good and the quality is much better than walmart's. They sell 120 childrens chewables for $3.99 that are naturally fruit juice sweetened. They have lots of vitamins, herbs and suppliments and have reasonable shipping prices, too.(I should get commission for this ad!)Don't forget to take care of mommy and daddy, too.
