Hello healthy mamas!

I need to start taking vitamins! I feel so run down. I am taking care of six kids all day and I need something to give me energy and keep me healthy.

Here's the problem. I am a big baby when it comes to taking pills. If the vitamin starts to disolve in my mouth, ill spit it out. Childish, I know. I loved taking shaklee vitamins because I felt great, but I couldn't get past the smell and taste.

Any suggestions? What kind of vitamins do you take?

Hello

I didn't used to like to take vitamins, b/c none of them seem to make me feel better and I never noticed a difference. I came across vitamins from Xango called 3SIXTY5. I noticed increased energy, decreased appetite and over all I felt better. I now take them everyday and I feel great. My skin, hair and nail have also benefited from them. They have no smell or taste. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me.

Have you tried using the best vitamin supplement out there yet? It's food!

If you do some basic research and eat a healthy, balanced diet each day you can completely eliminate the need for vitamins and supplements. I do realize that it takes a little bit of time and planning, but it really is the best way to get all of your vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other great 'stuff' your body needs.

Hi Sara,
Good for you for knowing how great you felt with your Shaklee vitamins. There are ways around that and I would have hoped that you would talk to the person who introduced them to you.

You can dissolve the vita lea in a beverage. You can blend them and there are other products that are already in powder form.

I too have an issue with "tasting" the shaklee vitamins when I take them. I have found that a thicker beverage often helps with the taste of them when I swallow them.

You definitely want a vitamin that has the science and research behind them.

Please let me know if you'd like other suggestions about your shaklee vitamins.

You could be suffering from a variety of health issues, and emotional ones. Do pills get stuck in your throat? Do you have difficulty swallowing other things? You could have an enlarged flap to your voice box, in which case you could go on line about it. Or you could try to take pills by holding your head down to your chest while swallowing.I would practice just swallowing water several times first. However, getting enough rest and eating healthily will do you way more good than just taking vitamins. If you have insurance or can afford a doctor's visit other issues are thyroid and iron defficiency that can make you very tired.
You have taken on a lot. You could be home and take care of children by becoming a licensed home daycare provider. Call your local YWCA to find out how, and don't be intimidated by the process, just take it step by step and keep it as simple as possible. By raising your rates you could make as much money as you are now and watch fewer children and be at home.
You are young and have a long life ahead of you and your mother wants you to life it fully and happily, so let go and allow the grieving process to heal you. Don't be so pessimistic about getting cancer, even if you do it is years and years ahead of you and your experience with it will not be exactly like your mother's. history does not repeat itself exactly. There are many cancer survivors around today, why not think in terms of being a survivor? My mother died of cancer and I have spent no time at all worrying about it. I have already lived long past the age at which she died. Get a good book on behavior modification, which is really attitude modification and try to teach yourself to think in more positive and reasonable ways.

Have you ever heard of Mona Vie it is the rage right now and its a drink. It actually tastes pretty good. I do not sell but I do know some people who do. It is $40 a bottle and it is made strictly from fruit including the acai berry. Just an FYI but it is very good for you and gives you energy.

Hi Sara,
First of all, I absolutely love your upbeat attitude,I am sure you must be a great care giver. I am sorry to hear about your loss.
Congratulations on recognizing the need to supplement your diet, the AMA suggests that everyone take a multi vitamen and mineral supplement.
The Vitality Pack from Melaleuca is excellent! The pills are small, coated so they won't break apart in your mouth, have no odor and are easy to swallow. We have a patent pending process called oligofructose compound which makes your minerals more bio available mimicking what you find in your fruits and veggies. This means that they get absorbed into your bloodstream to go to work for you. They are also highly effective in fighting against free radical damage.
My friend who is still nursing had our prenatals analyzed by her doctor who said they were very close to prescription strength and after just a few weeks she feels more 'pep in her step'!
I would love to share more details with you!

I am the same way when taking any pills except my Excederin! I really have a hard time taking large pills or non-coated ones. I have found though that if I take it with a glass of chocolate milk or meal replacement shakes (yeah I know, real healthy huh!) it helps get it down.

Also, did you know that there are adult chewable multivitamins? Do a search for them...Fruitful Yeild has them and I am sure that there are others as well!

Good luck finding something that works for you!

Our ped turned us onto Juice PLUS+ - whole food nutrition in capsules, chewables or gummies. In a nutshell, fruits and veggies encapsulated. We don't have a vitamin deficiency in this country but a whole food deficiency. How many of us eat the recommended 9-13 servings of raw fruits and veggies every day?
Thousands of medical professionals recommend Juice PLUS+ to their patients and it has been around for over 15 years. Our whole family has been taking it for 3.5 years and won't go a day without - hardly sick, have more energy, are more regular and I have that extra reassurance my kids are eating their fruits and veggies - the best cancer fighting antioxidants from mother nature. Here is my website: www.foodispower.com.

Sara,
My friend Cheryl just turned me onto Mamasource and knew I take vitamins to help me and my family. So I just joined especially so I could answer your question! I would agree with Maureen. I also take VEMMA. It's a great product that's a liquid and tastes 10x better than anything I'd ever tried, and believe me I tried. I don't like pills either. And there's no way my 2 yr old and my 4 yr old would take pills. This is a great liquid vitamin that your whole family can take. And no disrespect to the one responder who said to just eat the right foods, but foods today are not made the way they were intended. A supplement is highly recommended by most doctors and this one's even recommended by Dr. Oz (the guy on Oprah so much in case you aren't familiar with him). It is more expensive than pills, but it's also more easily absorbed into your system because it's a liquid. So, it works better. For us, it's worth it. There are so many benefits to taking a liquid vitamin, energy is just one. To your health! And sanity! I applaud your courageous, busy spirit! You can also contact me about it if Maureen's not in your area or not available. My number is ###-###-####. Oh and like Maureen said too -- there's a 30 day moneyback guarantee. Just try it. I'll bet you'll see a difference right away. And if you don't like it, you can send it back. No risks! Hope you have a great day!

As I read back through this I hope I'm not sounding like a sales person because I am not. I only share this with those who are interested and I hope to help you feel better.

Dear Sara,
I have been a distributor for a nutrition products company for about 3.5 years, Reliv International. I don't sell any more but really like the products. One of the first benefits for me was increased energy which continues to this day. I am a very active almost 58 and am amazed at some of the energy issues women my age mention. I will tell you that Reliv is a multi level marketing company like Shaklee, but if you can get past the hipe, I think you could enjoy the products. You are welcome to check out
reliv.com
or you can email me off list at

and I can put you in touch with someone who would be able to help you. The products are a powder, by the way, and can be mixsd with any liquid or yogurt. I take mine with skim milk, frozen banana and frozen strawberries every day and still enjoy it even though I've done this for more than a year.
Good luck.

Hi Sara,

I too have a major problem with taking pill forms of vitamins....they are just too big and I choke on them! There are adult varieties of chewable vitamins out there, but my own doctor said I could just take 2 of the chewable children's vitamins. So now my kids and I all take our vitamins together. Besides, they taste better than the adult ones and my kids love seeing their mom taking vitamins too! Hope this helps!

Hi Sara,

WOW! You are a busy lady and I do understand about the broken heart from losing your mother. I too lost my dad in April 2005 due to cancer. It is something we never get over we just learn to go on. Have you ever considered Melaleuca. They have a multy vitamin called the Vitality Pack. They truly are the best vitamins you can find. I would not waste my money on centrum or one a days or as someone suggested kiddy vitamins. Melaleuca has vitamins that are aimed for a woman's body and a man's body and for over 50! and they do have a children's vitamin. They have a patent pending on their vitamins it is called oligo fructose complex. It mimics they way our body's would absorb organic food and they keep the anti-oxidants safe in your body like they are intended to be and reduce free radicals. No other product has this and your body will absorb around 99.9% of the minerals it should be getting. They do give you more energy. If you would like more information on this please email me. I would love to talk more to you.

Okay..one more reply! I have to agree Melaleuca's vitamins are absolutely the best! They even come with a 90 day challenge. If you don't feel better, send back your empty bottles and they are free. I actually felt a physical difference after the 3rd day. No more mid day naps and I'm able to stay up late when necessary to get things done after kids & hubby are gone to bed. Additionally, I have a business partner with 5 kids! She loves the vitamins also.

Let me know if you would like to take Melaleuca's 90 day challenge. I can show you how you purchase them from their online catalog for the same preferred customer price as I have for over 4 years!

I'm the same way about vitamins. I think it started when I was pregnant and had to take those huge horse pill sized prenatal vitamins that often made me feel sick! My husband taught me a trick to eat my vitamin with my breakfast food. Just pop it in your mouth just before you swallow a bite. It goes down with all the other food and I don't gag like I do when I try to take a pill without food. Good luck! I'm impressed with your ambition to be a nanny and work so much. That is HARD work! Hi Sara,
I can understand the frustration with taking vitamins and the need for energy. I feel the same way. Everyone has different ideas of what does and does not taste good, so all I can tell you is from my own experience. I used to be a distributor for a nutrional supplement company that produced a product that tasted horrible! The product had great results but I couldn't get past the taste. It also aggrevated my acid reflux. My fiance and I just started a nutritional supplement business basicly to get our products at wholesale cost. We have some really awesome products that even his children consume! The Goyin is great and the kids take it in their lunch! The liquid vitamin is tart, but tastes like liquid Flintstones. It is recommended to take two tablespoons twice a day. I have found if I make sure to take it after I have eaten, but not after I brush my teeth...the taste is tolerable. There are also other great products! All the products are 100% satisfaction guaranteed and there is a small yearly fee 27-37 dollars to get them at wholesale cost. So there is no monthly ordering requirements, etc. Please feel free to check it out or contact me if you have any additional questions. Our website is http://www.genesispure.com and our number is 9822. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance. Good luck with your search! Wishing you many blessings!
Sincerely,

Sara, If you feel "rundown" you should see an internist to make sure nothing medical is going on. That may be scary because of your family history but all the more reason to get checked out. Lots of people need you and love you and you should take care of yourself. We often forget ourselves while we are caring for others. You mention the deep sadness about your mom's death and you should tell the doctor this. Sometimes people suffer situational depression that can be treated for a short time.

Taking care of young children at home as a SAHM was the hardest thing I ever did. I am really glad I did and I wanted to but I always say a hard day at my job now doesn't come close to how hard it was to be at home.

Take care. A.
