Vitamin Water

I absolutely love vitamin water, and mostly the vitamin water zero version. I'm curious to know whether you think it's really enriched with vitamins and good for you. Also, do you think it's okay for children to drink? Would it benefit them? My kids always want to sip on mine, and I'm considering filling their cups with it in the mornings instead of water. I think they think it's juice.

What can I do next?

It's nothing a glass of tap water and a multivitamin can't give you (and usually you get MORE from the pill). It's a waste of money and there are stricter guidelines about tap water than there are for bottled water. You're more likely to have something bad like E.Coli in a bottle of water!

Read the label! I saw some of these and read the ingredients and was horrified that they would put high fructose corn syrup and/or artificial sweeteners in it. Both are toxic and to be avoided at all costs - you definately don't want your child to have those things.

One of the best things you can do for your children is teach them to drink water - and like it. My kids, and some of their friends, will pick plain regular water over soda and juice because they like the taste. Juice, soda, sports drinks, etc etc are treats for once in awhile.

H.,
I won't hurt you. But no, it has no real benefit. It's just very expensive flavored water.

Hi- there is lots of stuff online about this just google "Is vitamin water bad for you". The idea seems to be it's junk food with some vitamins that you may not even absorb, still just a soft drink. The stuff with sugar isn't much better than a soda and the zero must have a chemical sweetner in it right? I would not give it to my kids regularly.

Read the labels carefully. Many of them contain lots of sweateners (both natural and artifical). My daughter (age 15) really likes them too. I treat it like soda, an ocassional glass/bottle is fine (only one per week).

IDK it's yummy, it has some of the vitamins I'm not getting (I will openly admit my diet stinks) and i often forget to take vitamins, and its a much better alternative than pop. My kids are older, the baby is 7, and they drink it, but other than meals they only drink water and never juice, so it's a nice change for them.

Depending on their age, I don't think it's a problem to let them sip it, but it's formulated for adults and not for kids.

Our pediatrician still has our kids on 1/2 flintstone vitamin/day at 2 and almost 4. Their bodies have different metabolisms and need different amounts of vitamins vs. ours.

I haven't really looked at the label, so I'm sure it's not harmful, but I can't find a good picture of their label online to really be able to see what the different vitamins/quantities are.

I'd simply ask your pediatrician if it's something you're wanting to do just to make sure that any of the vitamin components in there aren't harmful in their current quantities.

I'm with you. I LOVE it. The orange one and the lemonade. And there are no artificial sweeteners in the Zero. It is an extract from the stevia plant if I'm not mistaken. My kids like them too (they are 8 & 11). My kids mostly drink water and milk. Older one sometimes drinks soda or tea with meals outside the home. So I wouldn't have a problem at ALL giving it to them with their breakfast. What the elder one REALLY likes though, is the SmartWater. (I know some of you will crack that you must NEED something to help you if you are dumb enough to pay extra for it, but..) I like the way it TASTES. So does my son. Electrolytes added or no, it just plain tastes better to me.

The FDA wouldn't let them put it on the market unless it at least had some vitamins and minerals in it. If you look at the ingredients, you can tell where the vitamins and minerals come from.

You body needs vitamins and minerals to survive. YES, it is good for you. I don't think it needs to be the ONLY water you and/or your kids drink, but it's beter than nothing at all and CERTAINLY far better than any kind of sodas or drinks, including juice, with high fructose corn syrup.

If its regular flavor water, I would say go with juice better, and if its no calorie, even worse because of the artificial sweetners. There's a reason why the first thing your OB tells you when pregnant to not consume ANY artificial sweetners.

So - I was curious when vitamin water came on the market, but since, have seen a few news reports/articles stating that your body doesn't absorb the vitamins..... I guess there are certain vitamins that we can't absord thru liquid... I honestly can't remember which ones, but the article gave me enough information to decide not to buy it. Wish I had more facts for you, but I bet the info could be found on-line.
